While I've been playing blistercoil-combo for awhile now, I always considered it a joke "intro-to-combo" deck due to it's incredible unreliability.

While we previously had redundancy for the paradise mantle side of the combo (in both utopia vow and the strictly better karametra's favor) blistercoil was a very unique effect. Gelectrode being at three was just too high to play reliably on 12 lands, and the various "when you cast a spell of this color" (nettle sentinel, merrow bonegnawer, etc.) were too restrictive on the spells we could play to be good replacements.

However with Eldritch moon we will soon have Thermo-Alechmist the answer to all our redundancy issues! Incidentally Thermo-Alchemist is out of pyroclasm range which means we actually have a favorable matchup against tron. (A joke deck with a favorable matchup against a format staple, who'd have thunk)

Merfolk looter currently is acting as a stand-in for thermo-alchemist. Test it out. I've found that the additional redundancy of Alchemist gives us the ability to combo off against non-interactive removal light decks on turn 3 or lower EVERY game (barring poor mulligan choices or TERRIBLE luck).

The addition of alchemist isn't likely to make blister-coil combo a tier one deck anytime soon but at the very least with the added redundancy you can feel confident bringing it to a Modern FNM and know you can pull out a victory without constantly praying for the erstwhile "God-Hand"
