"Welcome to Jund 101,....."
WARNING
This Deck is in the process of being built which is why you see Pain Seer and Savageborn Hydra, Furthermore this is why Scavenging Ooze is included as a one of not two or even 3 of, this is also the reason I'm lacking Liliana of the Veil, Chandra, Pyromaster, and
Vengevine
If You Have Any Trades, Suggestions or Questions, Please Leave a Comment! (+1 Upvotes are also Appreciated :])
Brutal Hordechief- A nice blow out card. That is if you have a large board presence. Thus there are three situations that this card always falls in. 1. A 'Win More' card, for example if you have a board full of tokens to start draining away at you opponents life with his triggers than you are likely in a game winning position anyways. 2. The 'Mirror breaker', in longer grindy match ups where you have creatures trading with your opponents one for one and bouncing off each other this creature provides the last bit of energy making sure every trade and creature bouncing off each other is putting you in a slightly better position each and every time you attack. 3. The 'Why didn't I mulligan?/Wheres my mana at?', sits in your hand the whole game mocking you and starring into your soul. Wrap up- A good card, I've done some testing with
Shaman of the Great Hunt
too and found the life gain makes a significant difference in modern, overall it is a meh card but can really can contribute to you gaining momentous advantage over the long game, Talk about that 2nd ability a almost 'auto win' I might call it.
Dark Confidant- A very good staple, playing this bad boy on turn two and it not being interfered with is living the dream.
Wrap up Provides crazy card advantage crazy fast a must include.
Lotleth Troll- There are some hillarious interactions with Scavenging Ooze and Lotleth Troll, also Lotleth Troll is one of the most resistant threats in the deck and tends to beat in for a lot with trample. 3 Reasons to play Lotleth Troll 1. Fuels Delve for our sideboard! 2. Pesky Resistant threat! 3. Allows you discard dead creature cards in hand. Wrap up Annoying for opponents to deal with and can either beat in for that last bit of damage or buy you enough time to find answers.
Monastery Swiftspear- Wow is this 1/2 amazing, Prowess Haste guarantees from the moment you draw this card, whether it is late game or opening hand expect this guy to be out and tapped attacking, very rarely a dead card in hand, and if so I know a fella who might appreciate some nice creature discarding for some +1/+1 Counters (ACCCH!ACHH! Lotleth Troll ACCCHH!ACCHHH!) Wrap up What an amazing card to come out of KTK that really resonates well with the rest of our cards and had the potential to do some beatings.
Pain Seer- Budget alternative to Dark Confidant, not a great card really and Dark Confidant one ups him in almost every other way. He is still one of the best budget choices for Dark Confidant Wrap up Can Anyone spare a Dark Confidant?
Savageborn Hydra-Budget alternative to
Vengevine
, Ok I know it sounds crazy right now but hear me out,
Vengevine
has amazing recursion effects and battlefield presence but in this deck I'd be using it mainly for Lotleth Troll fodder. You might be wondering "Well then Tacoguy12321 why aren't you playing
Shambling Remains
, he is kind of like
Vengevine
?", and I'd say back to you, "Well I'm glad you asked! Even though
Shambling Remains
can do an ok
Vengevine
impression it lacks the board presence as Unearth is only until end of turn and it can not block whereas if Savageborn Hydra is in hand it is not a dead card!" Overall whether your playing Hydras or Plants in this spot its all a clever way to support Lotleth Troll and get some benefits. Wrap up If you have
Vengevine
s, play them.
Scavenging Ooze- Because I don't have any Tarmogoyfs, and because Tasigur, the Golden Fang is a annoying threat we can hose both using Ooze ability. At the moment many decks play both of these staples, being able to prevent your opponent from playing them earlier or allowing them to have large creatures is amazing! Also by discarding a creature card for Lotleth Troll distributing a +1/+1 counter than paying for another +1/+1 counter and 1 life, ohhhh all the value!!! Wrap up Very versatile and helps break up two large threats and can take care of Lingering Souls flashback
Young Pyromancer- A amazing one drop that has proved its validity in many eternal formats, adding crazy value to every spell played. Even in my deck where there are only 19 Instants and Sorceries to support him he can amass a small army and become a quick source to be reckoned with. Wrap up Playing this guy is amazing as he either forces removal or left uncheck over runs the board with disposable 1/1's couple this guy with Brutal Hordechief and your cute, lovable 1/1 tokens turn into Mean Lean draining machines!
Dismember- Dismember is a super versatile tool having one in hand is like having a hand full of manipulation. Having your opponent seen this game 1 makes games game 2 very high stakes especially with a well aware and experienced player. By leaving up only 2 mana you could be representing multiple cards in hand. This card also is generally great against the current meta being able to beat both Tasigur, the Golden Fang and Siege Rhino, two potent threats, and can easily kill most Tarmogoyfs in the mid game. Wrap up Much Versatile. Very Fun.
Lightning Bolt- Basically a must 4 of at this point in the format in almost any red deck due to its versatility and power all for . Wrap up I bolt you for 3 :]
Rakdos Charm- You might be sitting there thinking hmmm isn't that the irrelevant card used to show flavor and promote playing the guilds in limited and standard? And to that I'd answer yes and heres why- 1.Any graveyard strategy is eliminated including living end or any variant off dredge shannanigans. 2. Prevents Lingering Souls Flashback. 3. Hurts Affinity players a bit or any artifact revolving combos. 4. Eats possible Tasigur, the Golden Fang after Duress 5. Instant Infinite damage to any Splintertwin deck if they go off. Any card able to do this much at instant speed for the low price of only two mana deserves at least some recognition. Wrap up Very versatile which as you may have noticed is a theme among a lot of the cards I run and for good reason as it gives the player decisions.
Despise
- Budget replacement for Thougtsieze :[ Wrap up any1 have a free
Thoughtsieze
Dreadbore- I could have used Terminate but I find from personal experience that being able to get rid of Liliana of the Veil faster, overall I'd actually argue that Terminate is a overall better card because it can be used at instant speed but I prefer the choice and I like being able to get rid of Liliana of the Veil before I discard or sacrifice to many of my creatures. Wrap up Good Removal almost as efficient as Terminate but is fine for now, against tokens it also hoses Sorin, Solemn Visitor.
Duress- Very good considering most things you want to take from your opponent is non creature spells, I consider Inquisition of Kozilek to be better, but Alas I don't own any so this is my budget alternative. Wrap up Good versatile card worth fetching and shocking to Turn 1 Duress.
The Sideboard
My sideboard focuses on my worst matchup, affinity and combo/Polybreach.
I will explain the rest of my match ups later on in my description.
Affinity; Traditional affinity is very fast and puts me on the defensive very early in the game, while they can keep pushing pressure with cards like Steel Overseer and Master of Etherium. This deck also rends a lot of my 1 for 1 removal useless as they have a continuous flow of creatures.
Sideboarding for Affinity I usually side in 1x Pithing Needle, 1x Rakdos Charm, 1x Ancient Grudge, and 2x Destructive Revelry. I usually bench out 2x Pain Seer, 1x Savageborn Hydra, 2x Duress. I find Duress not as good in the Affinity match up. My main way to win games 2 and 3 are to enter the late game because by then affinity has lost significant card advantage. My best creature in this matchup is easily Lotleth Troll who will gladly jump in front of giant creatures for you and can prove a useful resource once you whittle down their attackers and you go on the offensive.
