@ MAGESTIC_LLAMA

Thanks for the +1 and the Pink Floyd reference.

@ bobiscool145

While I do like Master of Etherium, he is only so functional, and a huge target. I have swapped out Etched Champion for a bit to test with Master, and I am liking what he does, but he can be blocked by tokens, making him hard to swing in with. As for Welding Jar, it is a completely political card. My opponents will have to burn twice as much removal to get my key pieces, making my deck far less fragile. Plus it is a great enabler for Mox Opal as well.

Thanks for the +1, and just do what I did, start trading. I traded for almost everything in this deck. It will take some time, but it is so rewarding when you finally trade for all of the pieces.

@ Honkytonk2

I have used the Memnites in here before, but aside from being additional enablers for Mox Opal and Cranial Plating, they didn't serve any other purpose. I've moved them to my toolbox for the time being. If I were running a swarm style Affinity deck, I would add them back in, but as it stands now, they are just enablers, nothing more. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I'm actually trying out the Master of Etheriums right now over the Etched Champions, although I like the Master, I prefer the Champions more. Thanks for the +1 and the comment.

I used Etched Champion before, and I agree, he is a late game powerhouse. If he resolves, he spells trouble for my opponents. While Master of Etherium gets huge, he can be thwarted by tokens even. I think I will be going back to Etched Champion in the long run though. Thanks for the +1 and the comments.

For what it's worth, I have always had better experiences with Etched Champion over Master of Etherium. Master is great, especially if you have a loaded board presence of artifact creatures, but the pro-all-colors that Champion offers just can't be topped. Unblockable and unkillable against most decks is better than a big dude who can be killed by Doom Blade. Both die to board wipes anyway. Master just feels like a win-more card too often, while Champion can win games on his own as long as you have Metalcraft.

Seat of the Synod would be a good replacement for your island since it is an artifact.

Have you considered Ensoul Artifact? I'm not an affinity player but I have a friend who plays 1-2 in mainboard and they seem fairly strong, but I honestly don't know if it's much better than what you have already. +1!

Ghostfire Blade is an interesting card, however, +2/+2 and a singluar addition to Cranial Plating isn't worth the spot, especially as a singleton. With competitive modern, you want your card choices to be consistent, not random. I checked out your deck list, it looks solid. I love comparing my build to other Affinity builds, as it helps me to improve my decklist. Thanks for the comment and the +1.

@ Aurii

I love using Ensoul Artifact and Ornithopter in standard, in fact, I have a fun little U/R build that I made during M15, that I still tinker with today. However, I don't consider Ensoul Artifact a staple for modern Affinity. Don't get me wrong, slapping that on a Memnite, Vault Skirge, Ornithopter, or Inkmoth Nexus is cool, but not cost efficient. I know a lot of folks who tinker with it in theirs, but I've had limited success with it. Not to discourage people from using it, but I do think that there are better choices. If you are just starting out, breaking into Modern Affinity, you should definitely try everything, so you know what you like and what you don't. While I have a playset sitting in my toolkit for my deck, I don't use them because I feel there are so many other first picks over it. I appreciate the suggestion and the +1. Thanks for the comment.

This looks clean. +1 from me.

I have heard a split as far as Thoughtcast goes. On the one hand, access to more stuff is good, but on the other, it's reliant on the fact you're playing it for 1 and there's the arguement that you should just play more threats so you don't have to accelerate your draw into them.

Thoughts? And have you ever considered cutting the numbers down to 2 or 3?

June 4, 2015 9:17 p.m.

hey man if I'm not ready to drop the $$$$ on ravagers yet, what would you suggest I do instead?

August 7, 2015 7:30 p.m.

zyphermage says... #23

Don't listen to that other guy,no offense. Never cut anything less than 4x Thoughtcast. You could always run more Steel Overseer or Etched Champion

August 7, 2015 7:57 p.m.

I agree with the whole 2-3 thoughtcasts so you don't have to accelerate your draw into them. I also prefer less colored spells so that you have more consistency towards affinity mechanic. This is probably preference more than anything.

I noticed you wondering about Etherium vs Etched. I personally run 3 Etherium and 1 Etched main for game 1, and side in 2 more Etched and out the Etheriums in the match ups.

Also, a singleton Thoughtseize in the 75 has worked wonders in various contexts, and opponents don't ever really expect the play, especially if it's game 2 removing their artifact hate from hand.

Anyways, +1. Looks solid + Floyd (:

What is wrong with drawing 2 for 1 blue, then drawing another Thoughtcast, and drawing another 2 with 1 blue? Affinity struggle when it runs out of gas, this card is like a full tank with 1$ a gallon prices.
