Ever since I started MTG, I've always had a thing for fast tempo/aggro type builds. That, and my favorite colors of the pie are Black and Green.
This brew was inspired by a bugdet mono-green stompy deck within the modern format that did pretty well at some major events. Of course I messed around and added Black, making it dual colors. It has gone through countless iterations over the past 3 years, striving for the more balanced form.
UPDATE 12/26/14:With a lot of advice, I made the transition to a more mid-range "Rock-y" build with a name that finally suites it. Looking good!
Basically a lot of disruption going on. iok, Seize with Lili for the discard. I stumbled upon Oona's Prowler who is this decks unofficial vanilla beater with a discard effect that can disrupt opponent's hand or be abused to further my goals, and she flies... Of course we have other late game beaters: Scooze for 'yard disruption, the always powerful
thrun
as a wincon against any build especially w/ Blue, and our other beater in the form of Lotleth Troll. He eats Gravecrawler and Bloodghast to get huge. Both "Crawler and Ghast are key in this deck because they recur in order to press the battlefield. Phyrexian Arena; card advantage during long matches. This deck wouldn't be complete w/o Abrupt Decay, considered the best removal in the modern format and one of the best ever printed by MtG. I can also use Ad on my Arena if I can't afford to lose any more life. To top it all off, a singleton Sword of Light and Shadow for protection against path, OB Ring, ChainedttRocks, Doom Blade, Go for the Throat and even Ad. Also nets me life and can fish my creatures back from the 'yard.
Mana base has the basic fetchlands, shocklands, a single filterland, and Urborg for swamps. A bunch of manlands in Mutavault (synergy w/ 'Crawlers), Treetop Village (our beatstick trampler), and Dryad Arbor (whom can also be fetched any time, even at instant speed); all can be equipped with the Sword when need be. An obvious appearance of a playset of Tectonic Edge to disrupt opponent's land base. This deck also plays the underrated Bojuka Bog, who nerfs goyfs, starves snaps, eats zombies, and a lot of more potential game changing dilemmas for the opponent.
My Bench:
Choke shuts down Blue, off the top of my head: Delver and Patriot; once online.
Creeping Corrosion, Greens "Wrath" for all things artifacts.
Darkblast gets rid of chumps, then can be dredged to do it on a 2nd chump OR a 2nd time on a pesky creature with 2 toughness.
Maelstrom Pulse is necessary in Rock builds. It covers whatever AD doesn't and chain kills.
Extirpate takes away a combo player's wincon pieces necessary for them to shutdown a game against anyone.
Golgari Charm is one of many sweepers available to BG decks. For its cost, its our utility card against aggro, bogles, enemy sweepers, tokens, chumps, hits the occasional manland, etc..
Shadow of Doubt can stop fetches but is the BANE of Scapeshift builds and sometimes Tron.
Smother is like the Abrupt Decays cousin. Back in the day this thing was an ace remover. Thinking outside the box of just simple creatures with cmc's in the upper right hand corner, this thing can hit tokens but better yet... manlands.
Spellskite redirects Burn away from your creatures and of course YOU. Steals auras from Bogles and Infect.
Torpor Orb negates ETB effects: Snap, Deceiver, E.Witness, Restoration, etc.
