I really want to Torpor Orb as a sideboard option. At this point, it's basically a prerequisite for this meta. Problem is, it inhibits Experiment One.

Should I replace them for another 1/1; Skarrgan Pit-Skulk?

Don't count on always having Experiment One and Torpor Orb in the same hand.

What matches are the Gut Shots for?

Plus 2 ScOoze + some Putrid Leech and Lotleth Troll. Id drop Exp 1 and maybe Agent of Fates. Really I'd replace the agent with 4x Liliana of the Veil.

First off, thanks for commenting I do appreciate the help!

I was actually thinking of replacing Exp 1 with Gnarled Scarhide for beatdown and since it can be a late game with it's Bestow on my creature or turn it into an overpriced Pacifism. Putrid Leech and Lotleth Troll are great beatdown cards, I see Oona's Prowler being replaced but Strangleroot Geist's haste is really good. I'll give it a shot.

Siding in Torpor Orb would basically stop Exp 1 from working so I guess I'll go ahead and do that for sure.

The Gut Shots are just for aggro matchups. They were originally for Skarrgan Pit-Skulk's Bloodthirst ability, whom was a possible candidate to replace Exp 1.

I'll definitely get my hands on Liliana of the Veil once funds are accrued.

Master of the Fates was sort of a budget version of her. I thought it could work with all the spells that trigger his Heroic.

It could but so can Gatekeeper of Malakir but neither can dominate the game like Lilly though. Deff upgrade once it's affordable.

I thought that was what u were using them for but black has some solid options. I'd swap it to Darkblast but Vendetta Tragic Slip Disfigure and even Ulcerate could work.

I mistype Master of the Feast all the time cause I always get it confused with Reaper of the Wilds haha good thing I don't use Agent of the Fates thatda be hella ridiculous tryna keep the names straight

December 25, 2014 12:45 p.m.

Maybe they'll release be an Unglued set with these all mismatched haha

I think I may have some Darkblast laying around.

I really like Treasure Cruise. If I go that route though, I'd need to fix the mana base a bit. Any ideas?

-2 llanowar wastes -2 woodland cemetery -1 pendelhaven +4 Polluted Delta and a Watery Grave. This will also allow u to use Spellskite optimally vs Burn if u wanna SB 1-2.

December 25, 2014 12:58 p.m.

Ok nice, its also not a bad thing fetches are being reprinted.

Always wanted an excuse to play Spellskite.

Dead in the water vs all sorts of things. Needs Abrupt Decay at the very least.

At least take the time to explain y it needs MB Abrupt Decay. U could be like AD hits everything from Deceiver Exarch to Liliana of the Veil including The Rack and Blood Moon. The deck isn't dead it just needs to flush out its Seizes.

U could add 2x Tectonic Edge. Rock decks typically want 24 lands and it'll help u against Celestial Colonnade type of threats. Which are huge in modern.

U could also add some Treetop Village or Mutavaults. The vaults work well with Gravecrawler. Manlands are great for getting a creature on the board vs control decks.

December 25, 2014 5:30 p.m.

Much appreciated. I had Abrupt Decay sideboarded in an earlier build. I'll find some way to add that in.

December 25, 2014 6:12 p.m.

I agree, AD is a great card. I have definitely have a playset around.

I always wanted to try The Rock build. Originally I wanted this deck to be more aggro than mid-range, but I realize BG decks excel in the latter. I may explore that a bit. The price tag is hard to swallow though...

Well look at my build. Zombiepox. I'm still buying my Tarmogoyf play set for my paper rock build so I'm using this in the mean time. I've been playing the Rock in digital form for about a year now and love the deck. The above is quite Aggro (T4 wins aren't too uncommon) and is quite similar to the direction I've been pushing your build into. That being said, u have to take some time and learn your match ups & there is a a lot of grave hate in the meta. However while not as control oriented as the rock it plays the attrition game quite nicely.

December 25, 2014 10:46 p.m.

I'm interested in trying mtgo in order to get a better handle on the deck building and fame in general. Are there any more revisions to the deck I could try? Or maybe for now I should stick to play testing.

Giant Growth is really an Infect only thing. Vines of Vastwood is a good card but again belongs in infect. U could boost your creatures with Sword of Light and Shadow as well as give some evasion. This could free up more space for additional Thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek or 4x mainboard Abrupt Decay. Modern isn't as creature heavy as standard so a lot of boost combat tricks aren't really needed. Taking away someone's T1 Goblin Guide and having uncounterable removal that can hit almost anything is huge though.

nice, my golgari has been exploring this side of things recently too: golgari.wen, its a bit different with more focus on the graveyard, but there might be some tech worth checking out. in particular i think Bloodghast is good enough that he might be good here too. in the tests ive been running this month, he is by far the best of the graveyard creatures in this kind of setup. gravecrawler and raidcrawler are cool and can definitely overwhelm at times, but the fact that you have to pay to bring them back and then wait until next turn to attack really leaves them lagging behind bloodghast in terms of potency. bloodghast just continually messes up combat math for their ability to plan for the turns ahead. hes especially brutal with Lotleth Troll discard one or two of them for counters, play a land and swing with everything.

i also agree with most everything APPLE01DOJ said. giant growth can really only hold up if a) its doing infect work or b) you are armed to the teeth with treasure cruise and dig through time and whatever playable black cards with delve we hopefully get in FRF.

the prowler is pretty cool tech, makes me want to find ways to abuse the discard outlet. running the prowler alongside lotleth troll REALLY seems to want bloodghasts too since getting bloodghast into the graveyard is actually better for your efficiency than say Gravecrawler where you still need to pay for it, or Bloodsoaked Champion where you have to pay even more.

the militant is an interesting decision, its kind of a defensive play against treasure cruise right? is scooze not getting that job done on his own?

December 26, 2014 12:59 a.m.

@APPLE01DOJ, your explanation makes a lot of sense. My goal was to approach a win condition with a unique styled deck. I added two KOZILEK in there and two AD. I added a singleton Sword.

@xiao.wen, I agree Bloodghast is in a class of its own. I had a zombie beat down deck originally. I wanted a type of Merfolk deck going but with zombies without much graveyard effects because of all the hate. Prowler seems like it can be abused but so far, I've only used her for disruption or getting things in the 'yard. The Dryads were from the stompy version of this deck before the new changes. They are aggro, and stop snaps and goyfs. Should they be replaced?

I think the Dryad Militants (underrated card IMO) should probably be Gravecrawlers since they'll help Lotleth Troll get big fast. The slot could also be used to turn some of your 2x's to 4x's or U could put Strangleroot Geist back in.

U also have 2x excess Overgrown Tomb, Swamp and Forest

U could really use those 6 slots for better stuff. Bojuka Bog is good vs decks running Treasure Cruise. Dryad Arbor is awesome vs Liliana of the Veil Smallpox Burn, Control, tons of stuff. Best thing is that Dryad Arbors are fetchable!

2x Tectonic Edge/Ghost Quarter should really be in your mana base. I'd advise the Tech Edges but the Quarters are better vs Tron.

2-4x Mutavault or Treetop Village. U NEED manlands in modern.

1x Leechridden Swamp late game tactic that is fetchable.

December 26, 2014 7:56 a.m.

Dryad Militant is underrated. This deck's synergy would be better if they were Gravecrawlers though. I'll definitely text Strangleroot Geist (also underrated) to see which is at home more.

I went ahead and did 1x Bojuka Bog, 1x Dryad Arbor, 2xTectonic Edge, and 2x Mutavault. I shy away from lands that tap, I have this concern about losing tempo.

I also like the idea of Leechridden Swamp and fetching it makes it a viable strategy within any game. I'm just not sure what else to move out for it.

Other than that, the mana base looks great. I have so many options and abilities to choose from, depending on my opponent.
