Ya know if you take out Terminate then this deck is extended legal where it will be much more competitive than it is in Modern.

@parasitian: I'd really rather not play a format where I know my deck will no longer be legal at some point, resulting in me having to build a new one. This is why I avoid Standard. I personally find eternal formats like Legacy or Modern to be much more enjoyable.

@parasitian: I don't think that Extended is considered a format anymore. That was why Wizards implemented Modern. Not enough people were participating in the format due to its limited card pool (the same reason why some people dislike participating in Standard) so Wizards decided to expand the available pool to every Core Set and Expert Expansion printed since 8th Edition (instead of the four most recent Core Sets and Expert Expansions) and change the name "Extended" to "Modern."

I like your deck, and you make some good points. would you mind checking out mine and letting me know what you think? I use less creatures and more removal for control and Blade of the Bloodchief fuel.

Why Verdant Catacombs ? If it searches for a swamp or forest, when you don't have forests, at the cost of life, why include it? Why not just swamps?

@Cipher: Verdant Catacombs also allows me to search for Blood Crypt , since it still includes the swamp keyword. It also helps thin out the deck and forces a shuffle to get Vampire Nocturnus back online.

Have you considered card:Painter's Servant? They combo really well with Nocturnus.

Indeed I have. But I opted not to run him since that's all he does for me, and this deck doesn't always need Nocturnus to win. It's a good idea, but running a card that only combos with four other cards (and takes up space) doesn't really suit me.

@Zombie a lot of people would. I tried him out recently over Pulse Tracker, and while Bloodghast is indeed a great card, I found 1 mana creatures like Pulse Tracker help me more.

What do you think about Bloodline Keeper Flip ?

I think Nocturnus is better overall. I gave strong thought to including Bloodline Keeper Flip , but with 6 cards that already cost 4 mana, he slows me down too much.

Hey, i just have to say damn this deck is pushy XD. i love how you made it work. you should check out my deck build it runs similar to yours but its mono black vampires, i never really had good luck with mana so one color is safe and its good for nocturnus.+vote frome me XDncaragan

I like your mixture of standard vampires and zendikar vampires.. works nicely together. I may do something quite similar in my FNM's modern weekend coming up.. I may quote you. (you probably don't care to hear) but I would probably do: +2 Olivia Voldaren (i have 2) -4 Terminate -2 Lightning Bolt +2 Dreadbore +2 Go for the Throat
(while I'm writing a comment about myself, might as well ask:) what do you think of Dash Hopes as either a sideboard or even mainboard item against combo? There's a ton of combo in my FNM. And because I'll be swarming with life sucking vamps, they may not be aloud to pay the 5 life and survive.

i did experiment with dreadbore here, sorcery speed kills the playability. terminate is a must. lightning bolt is too good not to run in 4. and dash hopes isn't that great, really. the bloodghasts are actually only in here as an experiment in going even more aggro. normally i wasn't using bloodghast at all and had 4 nighthawk and 2 olivia.

If you have any questions on how to use my deck, I'm more than happy to answer. I'm fine with people netdecking my build, if only just to know I'm impacting this game in some small way.
January 11, 2013 7:15 p.m.
i saw you take bloodghast out of your build and decided to try that, he cant block and made my 2 drops too high for the curve. what do you think, also i went full into the seers.
also the olivias in main now make it hurt full for the 1/1 or even the 2/2 on board and late game it really changes, and is devastating wit noc on board XD

well, bloodghast is actually a really, really powerful card. i just went back to what i had been doing in the first place. bloodghast is just one of those cards i almost felt bad for not using, since he's just that good. but, i discovered, while i was faster with the ghasts, and he leads to speedy kills, i lacked the stability that a set of nighthawks and 2 olivia provided. even though olivia isn't an "aggro creature" she still fits the deck well by killing/stealing/buffing herself, as well as benefiting from Vradeen and captain Runo here. the fact that she gives herself +1/+1 counters and has built in flying makes olivia capable of doing massive damage. i would still use a full set of bloodghasts in your build since you're still monoblack. vamps work in modern at mono black, rakdos colors, or hell, i've even seen golgari vamps top events.

Yeah i tested against some moden decks, they went back in... XD soul sisters and affirmmity are ok its the zoo and jund coming in with lil creatures that get pumpped hurt the deck and anything tat makes me lose life makes it hard too.
January 12, 2013 10:55 p.m.
also, i feel like i need more one drops but none of them seem to do enogh for mono black vampires LOL any in mind? and this may be a newbie question bu i cant seem to feature the deck "we" are working on lol

Stromkirk Noble , Vampire Lacerator , Pulse Tracker , Viscera Seer , and Guul Draz Vampire are the ones that typically see play. the one-drops are the reason vampires suck in standard (no pun intended) and are entirely viable in modern. that and gatekeeper.

Love the deck as always. Got enough $ to get all the red vamps atm for my build. Just need your help on what I should take out.
YamishiTheWickedOne says... #1
@martin: his advice makes sense, but more for a deck that uses the Kalastria Highborn engine. This deck was designed with a different playstyle in mind. Remember, there's more than one way to use a tribe effectively.
