YamishiTheWickedOne, I am glad to help! And yes, I see the Nocturnus as just not good enough in a three-color deck, even one that skews this heavily black.

At this point, from my perspective, I would just look at the MV of your cards, and I would hesitant to make a change that raises the MV of something. But so many things are meta calls. I had Drana and Linvala in another deck, and I realized that she hit almost nothing in my opponents' decks. They are all about ETB and triggered abilities in my meta... So she wouldn't be worth her MV in Edgar for me.

Consider Scapegoat, it serves 2 functions here. First, it helps you pseudo dodge tricky wraths like tuck, exile, -X-X, etc. because you'd much rather sac a token and eat a personal Evacuation than end up in topdeck mode (let Edgar die so you get eminence triggers). Second, it doubles as a non-combat finisher with Purphoros out.

Deck space is tight, so I'm experimenting a bit.

out: Purphoros (the one I'm most uncertain on, when he goes off, he really goes off though.) in: Impact Tremors (half of Purphoros for half the mana)

out: Vampire Cutthroat (the most conditional evasion of the bunch I was running) in: Vito (I still feel like he has potential though I'm very iffy about 1 drop for 3 drop)

out: a swamp in: Phyrexian Altar (I'm testing 32 lands but it might prove to be a bad idea. If I need 33 I'll cut Vito again.)

Vessiliana I'm going into a testing phase where I want to figure out if Impact Tremors is a good enough alternative to Purphoros due to coming out much faster. I know Purphoros is very good, I'm just iffy about multiple 4 mana enchants.

Testing the proverbial waters as well with only 32 lands since I am running some ramp. It feels largely the same as 33 but only time will tell. I know most people run 33-36 in Edgar.

I did swap out Cutthroat for Vito. 1 mana for 3 mana is not ideal, but Vito has a lot of synergy with the Aristocrats engine I'm leaning more and more into.

The new set really gave us some great new vamps. With Bloodletter I'm occasionally finding I can kill a player turn 4 now at earliest. I am now strongly of the mind that Master of Dark Rites is the new must-have one-drop because she makes everything come out so much faster.

I know I'm directly going against your advice but if the results I get are negative I'll just reverse the changes (unless you have a better idea? If so I'm all ears.)

YamishiTheWickedOne, by all means, try it out! That is part of the fun of the deck. You see, there are several ways to build Edgar, and none are wrong. Whatever works for your meta and for your playstyle! I ... actually put the Master of Dark Rites in my clerics deck, where I am going more for Aristocrats, rather than Edgar, where I still like to aggro swarm.

Finally got my hands on a Wheel of Fortune. I know I've been a big proponent of Mirror Entity but somehow even with my increased access to ramp he just isn't as explosive as he was in previous iterations of the build, so he goes in maybeboard for now. 3 cmc for 3 cmc. Though I'd love to have an even 40 creatures, I wanted one more way to refresh resources. This deck has a tendency to play my entire hand pretty quickly due to having so many 1-2 mana cards and ways to ramp out 3 cmc creatures early.

@Vessiliana who/what would you suggest I cut for Chthonian Nightmare and Sorin of House Markov  ^Flip?

Well, at this point, it is delicate business cutting things! I might suggest Vampire Socialite for one. For the other? It's rough! Personally, I would cut Dark Ritual, just because I like to be able to use my mana again.

I know Phyrexian Altar is standard but I've been thinking of cutting that for CN. I do kinda want to lower my curve where possible.

YamishiTheWickedOne, yes, if you have not been using the altar enough to justify it, definitely cut that. I do not run it in my list any longer.

@Vessiliana using Fell the Profane  ^Flip as my 32nd land now, pretty sure it's new as well.

@Vessiliana it's fine given I have some ramp now. I functionally went back up to 33 with new releases. I wouldn't run less than 33 without Mana Crypt if I'm honest.

YamishiTheWickedOne I totally understand that. I sold my Mana Crypt years ago after dying to it one too many times.

@Vessiliana your thoughts? Decided to bring back Phyrexian Altar given it's possibly the best combo piece if I want to spam Clavileno's demons.

YamishiTheWickedOne, have you thought about losing Florian? He only gets you one card, even if you do get card selection. Perhaps that could be replaced with the Phyrexian Altar?

@Vessiliana Florian does honestly feel like an obvious cut, but it bugs me to have so little red in this deck. Also, the replacement options are all higher mana. The things I want to include are Baron Bertram Graywater, Vein Ripper, Ruthless Lawbringer, Twilight Prophet, or Drana and Linvala.

YamishiTheWickedOne, I totally understand the desire for more red. In my meta Drana and Linvala ended up not doing enough, even in my Orzhov vampires deck. There are just not enough activated abilities in my meta.

I think at this point, Florian should probably go. For me, I lean harder into the one-drops than anything else, which means I can keep the red up.

Decided I want to keep Vito in this build. My last game by turn 5 I had Vito, Vraan, Bloodletter, Sanctum Seeker, Cordial and Master of Dark Rites in play. That was a fun one.

YamishiTheWickedOne, I totally get the idea of wanting to keep your curve as low as possible, but Vein Ripper, Twilight Prophet, and Bolas's Citadel are all much better than the Socialite, despite the difference in MV.

@Vessiliana anything you'd recommend cutting to keep Phyrexian Altar? Not quite sold on Ripper but I'll keep testing. Citadel on the other hand is functionally a 6 mana "I win" button. Been testing it out and I think that should give you an idea of how I feel about that card in Edgar.

YamishiTheWickedOne, I run the Bolas Rock in my Edgar, and I have a much higher land count than you do, so yes, it's great!

Hmm. Keeping the Altar. I mean, it is already in your list. Honestly, much as I love baby Sorin, I do not think he has a place in your list. You are running a tight curve, so the extort will be less useful, and he is a Human Noble on his casting side, so you do not get any vampire tokens.

@Vessiliana My one other major hangup besides my mana curve is my creature count. From looking online, standard vampires count for Edgar EDH is about 33-36 but I want to lean a bit more aggressive. Looking at cookie cutter high-budget lists online, I opted to add more 1-drop vamps instead of Orzhov and Rakdos mana rocks. I could if I wanted to, drop down to 36 creatures but my mentality is I want to get a small army of vampires into play as quickly as possible and then mass-buff them all.

@Vessiliana hey, been a while huh? You've kinda become the person I bounce ideas off of by this point. I've updated the maybeboard with stuff I would love to include but I'm worried about messing up my curve, which feels comfortable where it's at now. Those 5 cards though I think would be quite useful. Graywater is a card I'm playtesting and his synergy with a lot of my other combo pieces has proven to be worthwhile in this spot (I dropped Pit Fighter).

Your thoughts? I feel like the most vital card I want in here is Patchwork Banner

Have you tried Three Tree City? Really impressive ramp in an Edgar EDH.
