you make a good point about me not having many creatures. I guess all I'd be able to say to that is that there is only 1 creature I want to attach any of them to anyway, which is Niv. And, since he's the commander, I'll be able to make sure he's on the field easily. I'll want to cast him and attach one of these auras to him right away since two of those 4 give him shroud, keeping the 2 for 1 thing an impossibility.

Non-targeting removal? AND the enchantments can be targeted instead...

@YerpyMoose: sure sure, auras make things like Damnation more devastating. I guess I'm more okay with enchantment removal being necessary to "get through" to my commander... but you've got me thinking about reducing the auras for sure... I guess I'm just always happy when I draw one because the ones in this deck always prove to be pretty devastating with Niv. Pemmin's Aura really helps my draw and, consequently, usually takes out a few creatures from the damage. but it is, along side Charisma , one of the most costly.
as I've said, Pemmin's Aura has been on my "chopping block" so many times, but i always have ended up keeping it. perhaps its time has come. I'll see if I can get some play-testing in tonight before I decide to take it out.
Also, while we're talking about auras, I saw Sigil of Sleep on yours and liked the idea so I thought i;d try it out. so cheap to cast! However I haven't used it yet in a game. How has it worked for you? For me I'm thinking about what you said and now wondering if it is really worth it in this deck if there is, as you are aware, not many creatures?

Sigil of Sleep is somewhat ridiculous. With any amount of draw, the sigil on Niv becomes card and tempo advantage. With wheel effects, it becomes near impossible to keep creatures, other than they themselves having shroud. It's worth it, even if there is only one card that really interacts with it.

made some changes...Added Wheel of Fortune , Winter Orb , War's Toll , Copy Artifact , and after an absence I put Pemmin's Aura back in (I know... what's wrong with me). I took out an island, Mind Spring , Tectonic Instability , and (the most painful) Solemn Simulacrum ... let me know what y'all think of the balance now.

For sure about Ral... I'm thinking I'll probably replace Jaya Ballard, Task Mage with him but I can't quite afford him yet.

Is this meant for general EDH (Multiplayer, duels, THG and other variants) or a specific deck climate (1v1, 2v2 3v3)?And also, how competitive are the decks in your area? It there a heavy concentration of any specific playstyle (combo, control, aggro) or deck themes (the nasty ones in my meta being reanimator, superfriends and a few others)?

CommanderFun says... #11
Those are difficult questions to answer for me. I actually play it in many different groups (friends, family, and stores). So yeah its general EDH. As for the competitiveness, it varies. Family = very competitive. Stores = crazy good decks but more relaxed atmosphere. My cousin runs a Sedris, the Traitor King that has tons of removal and wipes and tons of resurrect. My wife runs Nath of the Gilt-Leaf that well... here it is: Nathematical!. In stores and amongst friends, i run into a lot of B/W control... for some reason...
This is why your deck brought me the idea of building in more mana control to gain advantage back. Before I was comboing to get draw and creature removal out of Niv to stay in the game. Was okay once I had a big hand full of counters, then windfall for the win.
Anyway that pretty much sums it up I think...
so yeah, all of the above! reanimator, control, and aggro. It seems I'm actually the biggest combo guy on the board. Sorry I can't be more specific about that but the decks I play are anything but specific...

@YerpyMoose: OH... and I plan and build for multiplayer because that's my favorite to play...

If you EVER run Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind you ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY need to have Curiosity in there. Infinite draw and damage combo right there

@nedwards850: I am aware of the combo with Curiosity , Ophidian Eye , Tandem Lookout , or Mind Over Matter . They all instantly win the game for me, which is why I don't want to use them. No one from my local meta enjoys losing or winning by such easy win conditions, and neither do I. I used to run curiosity, but then discovered that no one wanted to play EDH with me anymore.
So yeah, I built the deck around Windfall and Wheel of Fortune effects. And those are more than enough to deal out tons of damage... sometimes killing several opponents at full life in one turn if everything is set up right.

Well maybe you don't need to run Curiosity in the mainboard. No one ever said EDH doesn't need a sideboard, so stick it there.

I definitely have a very long list of things that could be "sided in" to the deck. I am always trying to keep the sideboard and maybeboard down from an insane amount of cards. I'm actually currently switching a bunch of control effects in and out of the deck to see what I like.

It is Done! Ral Zarek has replaced Jaya Ballard, Task Mage . I think that's the most obvious switch at least.

Actually, I realized Rite of Replication is not as cool anymore if you can't use it as an alt removal of other commanders. So I decided to give Jaya Ballard, Task Mage another shot since she also works well with a bunch of my auras and has a decent "ultimate" board wipe...

Hey! Awesome deck. I love Niv. Why don't you play Reforge the Soul ? It seems pretty good in the deck
Could you check out my EDH deck and help with some suggestions?

CommanderFun Hey, I appreciated your comments the other day on my Rhys build. I'm working on a Firemind setup, though I'm basically going for the threat in my backpack version...
Since you've obviously put some thought into staying away from the potential for game ruining evil here, I'd like to give you the opportunity to express it. Your thoughts would be appreciated, as you've spent much more time testing the idea than I have...
Here's the link Niv-Mizzet Nuclear Deterrent. Thanks in advance

My issue with Pemmin's Aura is that, of the nine enchantments you are running, five of them are auras, and four of those are "enchant creature." Having only nine creatures to equip them to becomes cumbersome to the deck (with no creatures on field/in hand makes the dead cards). Not to mention that it enables two for ones.
Stasis gets exceptionally good when you have a way to break the symmetry of the card, such as bounce or the delightfully evil Hanna, Ship's Navigator .
