I'd run Artful Dodge over Teleportal and Augur of Bolas instead of the Melek's and AEtherling . I hate it when people plug decks but if you want any ideas I have two very similar decks that have been doing well and you can easily edit to be low price.

Nivix Spell Cannon and Spell Cannon Redux

Thanks for the suggestions! Artful Dodge is going out of standard soon though, and I'd like to make sure everything stays standard after the switch in October. I can see using Augur of Bolas for the card draw, although it's not guaranteed if your next three cards don't contain a spell. I could take out Melek, Izzet Paragon , but I'd like to have AEtherling or Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius , or maybe even a planeswalker as a late game win condition. I checked out Nivix Spell Cannon , and it seems to have a lot of mana and card drawing cards. Is that just to focus on your few win cons with guttersnipe and burns? I have more options I want to use, so I'm unsure if I should just use that card space for other cards instead.

I dropped Artful Dodge for the same reason and I found it while it was a good combination with Armed / Dangerous it was inconsistent. Essentially what happens with my deck is I get a couple creatures out and protect them. The draw is to help me get to answers but also trigger Guttersnipe or Talrand, Sky Summoner while keeping the board clear and knocking down any removal with the counters. Drop the Redirect , 2 Dispel and 3 fogbank for 4 Negate and 2 Counterflux . Mizzium Mortars is good against token decks and Turn / Burn helps shut down some of the more annoying cards in the current meta.

Hey thanks for the reply. I changed the sideboard as you suggested, and moved the deck around to more accurately reflect what I actually have as of now. I want Turn / Burn , Cyclonic Rift , and maybe some Augur of Bolas , but it depends on what the local card shop has in stock. I couldn't find any Turn / Burn s, and Cyclonic Rift was pretty expensive! I played the deck out a little bit, and I really like the cyclops unblockable damage, but I find myself taking too much damage from decks early. I find myself not wanting to block with Guttersnipe or Goblin Electromancer , lest I lose them and their effects. I want to find some Essence Scatter s and maybe add a couple more creatures for defense.

I think you need all 4 Searing Spear , otherwise, I can't see this deck winning except by smashing people with Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius . Also, that would let you kill people faster with Melek, Izzet Paragon and Guttersnipe .

Hmm, alright. I could see that. I just have to find another one of them. They're in high demand and can be hard to find. What would you suggest I take 1 less of for it?

Well, you have the Mizzium Mortars in your Maybe board, and I can definitely see those being mainboarded as well, especially if you can't find some Searing Spear

I would definitely put AEtherling at least in the sideboard and possibly a couple in the main even

Curse you! I spent too much time watching that guy. Now I want to try it. Copied his budget deck here: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/american-blitz-16-07-13-1/. I think I will feel weird playing a copied deck but it looks really fun. Thanks for the suggestion.

Don't feel weird for copying the pros. They get paid to come up with stuff like that

So taking a look at your list, I would definitely look into Delver of Secrets  Flip until it rotates out. Dissipate is strictly better then Cancel . I would also consider Counterflux better then both of those in a deck like this seeing as you only run the 2 colors.

:D Yeah, I know delver and dissipate are good. I don't have either of them though, and didn't find any rifling through the local card shop. Guess I could try to trade for them, but I'm not too worried. The Cancel is a 2 of anyway, just so I have the option if the game gets lategame, to mess up 1 thing. Counterflux would be great. Right now I'm trying to decide between using Weapon Surge to block things with first strike, or Unsummon to clear blockers out of the way and attack without worrying about being hit afterwards.

Or you could possibly use Artful Dodge so you don't even have to worry about blockers at all!
