Turbo Fog... there are excellent cards for it. Lets see how good it can do in a tournament.
However, i do need help on figuring out alternate win conditions.
Mill and Gideon are what i have planned so far.
However.. against certain decks, they might not do so well.
Decks i need to prepare for, in order of difficulty...
Aggro:
NEED
I will most certainly need ramp to get up to my board wipes by turns 3, 4 and 5. Spot removal might even become handy in this scenario. However, my best friends will be the early fog spells until i sustain a healthy hand to control the field.
I think i will need to bring in Dispel from the sideboard to counter any kind of Skullcrack shenanigans.
DON'T NEED
I do not think I'll need to be worried about the counter-mill in this match-up. I do not need a heavy amount of spot removal, as aggro will try to put everything on the field as soon as possible. Allowing me to cast 1 spell to kill 5 or more creatures in some cases.
Mid-range Creature:
NEED
Against this type of deck, counterspells might come in handy over the spot removal. As they usually run a multitude of beast, vampire, dragon, human cards. Cavern of Souls will not be their backdrop, unless they are running tribal. However, board wipes will need to be used in caution. As one mid-range creature could beat me to death by itself. Late fog spells will save me while i mill them, and build up Gideon, Champion of Justice
DON'T NEED
I will probably not need counterspells unless they are in red. Then i'll need to bring in the Dispels, to counter Skullcrack and or
Aurelia's Fury
. I do not think it would be wise to keep my Devastation Tides in the mainboard, because as a longer game progresses, I'll have my artifacts that i'll want to keep activating. So those spells will go out, and more sustainable cards will come in.
Control:
NEED
I will most definately need counterspells in this match-up. Negates and Dispels will turn the tide when i need it most. As well as cards like Psychic Spiral to counter any mill, and Pithing Needles to counter any kind of anti-mill.
DON'T NEED
The board wipes like Supreme Verdict probably won't be needed as much... however, if i run into Esper... i'll need a way to get rid of Obzedat, Ghost Council.
Frites:
NEED
Probably the worst matchup. I mill them to victory. If i had a choice... i would bring in Pithing Needle and call out Unburial Rites so they cannot flash it back, and just have the counter ready for when they try to hard-cast it. I could also just bring in Rest in Peace.
DON'T NEED
Board wipes wont be the major counter against a frites deck, however, if their combo does go off, i'd like to have a few. I will not likely need heavy spot removal. Because, like the aforementioned board wipes, can be used to clear any threat.
02-27-13 // 2-2-0
Match 1: Dimir duskmantel seer 2-0
Was able to fog him out both games, although my life was saved when his duskmantel seer gave me a Fog when i had none (would have lost otherwise). Milled him with
Sands of Delirium
Match 2: American Geist of Saint Traft 1-2
Just couldnt get there game two, land flooded, instead of drawing fog spells, i drew lands. I hear those are bad for preventing damage.
Match 3: Esper 0-2
Was playing my buddy, game two he did absolutely nothing, because in his opening hand he had a Psychic Spiral and 2 Dispel. He waited until he was milled out, then cast Psychic Spiral, i tried to Negate it, so he Dispeled my Negate, then i Dispel'd his Dispel, then he Dispel'd my Dispel, it was frustrating. My other deck threats were Detention Sphere'd. Hard to counter a perfect control deck. Maybe i need black to use things like Duress.
Match 4: RDW 2-0
Seemed easy, he didnt have any artifact removal in his sideboard, so i just derped de doo, and milled him out while fogging like a beast. He did over-commit a lot, and played all his creatures as soon as he got them... thinking somehow that more creatures would help against Fog. So i just had to cast Supreme Verdict every now and then to kill off like 8 creatures.
