Fblthp, pronounced as "Fibblethip", is a cowardly homunculus from Ravnica, serves the Azorius Senate, working in the Magister's Gardens. He was mostly left alone to do his duties, an arrangement he was quite happy with. He would tidy up and take care of the plants, content with his lot in life. One day, Arrester Parisha took him on a mission to capture the Rakdos criminal Vadax Gor, whose taste in victims had become more specialised and deviant. As part of the operation to apprehend the cultist, Fblthp was used as a lure. When Vadax quite literally took the bait, Parisha sprang into action and saved the put-upon homunculus.

For his participation and the mission's success, Fblthp was awarded with the possibility of his descendants petitioning the senate to create a tablet to register Fblthp's exploits upon his death.

The main appeal of Fblthp, the Lost (besides the meme) is the two card combo with Proteus Staff. How the combo works: With both Fblthp and Proteus Staff on the field, we activate Proteus Staff ability. This puts our commander on the bottom of our library, then we reveal our deck searching for a creature. Since Fblthp is the only creature on our deck, we will put him again into play. Proteus Staff allow us to put the rest of the cards on the bottom of our library in any way we want. This lets you stack your deck, then Fblthp, the Lost triggers, and you draw 2 cards.

This combo is in a way similar to the Doomsday Combo, as both create a pile and crack it. Our advantage over Doomsday is that this combo both makes the pile and crack it. But the similarities stop there; Doomsday piles normally win using Laboratory Maniac, since their pile is just 5 cards. As we have our entire library, it is less efficient to win using either Laboratory Maniac and Jace, Wielder of Mysteries, and to make it worse, we cannot have creatures on our deck so the combo can work. Also we are limited to just one color, and that restrict a lot the deckbuilding.

Instead, we can have a pile of cards that even outside the combo are useful, as we want the least dead slots as possible. That is the beginning of "100 Card Doomsday"

  • This is Fblthp, the Lost. Be honored!

  • We have a 2 card combo, one being in the command zone

  • Can combo without our commander.

  • Counterspells, a LOT of them.

  • Flexibility of play between control and combo.
  • Fblthp, the Lost, has an annoying text line that says: “When Fblthp becomes the target of a spell, shuffle Fblthp into its owner's library”. That means that even if we counter a removal pointed to Fblthp, the effect will trigger and will put Fblthp on deck, or using commander rules, back to the command zone. That means that countering the removal is not enough, as we need to stop the trigger as well. That is one of the reasons Stifle is on the deck, to help mitigate somewhat that weakness.

  • Null Rod / Stony Silence shut down fast mana and all our combo lines. We need to remove, but we want to do that just before the combo turn, so that other players are impacted as well, and perhaps even remove it for us.

  • We are somewhat soft for stax effects, Rule of Law effects and mana increasing cost effect are the main offenders. This also limits the stax we can play.

  • Being mono-colored means that we have a limited card pool, and there are permanents that we cannot handle very well, like enchantments and artifacts.
As a control/combo deck, and having in mind Fblthp weaknesses, we want to spend the other players interaction as much as possible. In that way, we don’t pursue super fast hands, instead we look for hand that force the players to interact as much with each other. That can be counters, Cursed Totem, or even Back to Basics; but it will depend on the decks your opponents are playing.

The opening hands this deck looks for is 1-2 lands, 1-2 mana acceleration, 1-2 counters, 0-1 draw, and 0-1 tutor.

We spend the early turns developing our mana, and digging into our deck. Don’t be afraid of casting Fblthp, the Lost as a cantrip. Always, ALWAYS, have some mana up for interaction, or in worse case, bluff power.

On the mid game, we want to search Proteus Staff, and look for a window when we can cast and activate it. We don’t want to be the first one to try to go off, or the last. Remember, you want the opponents to spend interaction on each other, even so for creature removal, as we cannot handle those well.

If the games reach the late stage, we probably have more chances on winning than our opponents, as our commander can be used as card advantage and mainly because of our compact combo.

All the combos above can be assembled manually, in case Proteus Staff is inaccessible for some reason, like Praetor’s Grasp.

But what happens if I don’t have X card for this pile?

All Fblthp, the Lost really needs in order to combo is mana (And Proteus Staff). The piles are there to facilitate the amount of artifacts that tap for mana, and them find the infinite mana generators.

For a full Isochron Scepter line is . You need any amount of artifacts that tap for at least.

For a full Paradox Engine line is . You need any amount of artifacts that tap for at least, if still have any Mox on deck, or tap for + , where is the lowest CMC artifact that taps for mana.

Also worth noting that Hurkyl's Recall can be used as ritual on you own artifacts.
Target opponent draws their entire deck. Shuffle Blue Sun’s Zenith on you deck, then draw it again. Repeat for each opponent.

This is the go-to combo.

Isochron Scepter with Dramatic Reversal imprinted, use Copy Artifact on Isochron, imprinting either Swan Song or Winds of Rebuke.

Swan Song:
    A. Cast Swan Song targeting any spell.
    B. Cast Dramatic Reversal, untapping all non land permanents.
    C. Cast Swan Song again, targeting the first Swan Song. This creates a 2/2 Bird token.
    D. Cast Dramatic Reversal again, untapping all non land permanents.
    E. Repeat A-D.
For this combo to win, you need a full turn cycle.

Winds of Rebuke:
    A. Cast Winds of Rebuke, targeting any non land permanent your opponents control.
    B. Cast Dramatic Reversal, untapping all non land permanents.
    C. Repeat A-B until your opponents have only lands.
    D. Cast Winds of Rebuke, targeting any permanent you control.
    E. Cast that permanent.
    F. Repeat B then D-E, until your opponent's library is empty.
This finisher has some issues, like Eldrazi Titans and Memory’s Journey.

Use the sames combos as Isochron Scepter + Copy Artifact, but instead of using Dramatic Reversal to untap all non land permanents, use Paradox Engine.
The following mentions have been suggested on numerous occasions for the deck, but have been excluded from the list for many reasons. In order for the deck to function with Proteus Staff, the 99 must be creatureless, meaning we cannot run a myriad of suggestions we see regularly.
For this reason, the obvious Trophy Mage and Laboratory Maniac do not warrant slots in this list because we need to consistently rearrange our library and draw off of Fblthp, and the only way to do this is for the list to remain creatureless. For the sake of redundancy, we will refrain from further creature-based suggestions in this section.

Jace, Wielder of Mysteries - On the surface appears to be a creatureless Laboratory Maniac solution, but outside of the combo, he proves to have little impact at any other stage in the game. Jace appears to have a lot of merit and appeal for a list like this, but our alternative win conditions are much more straightforward, efficient, and reliable to warrant slots for our gameplan.

Lion's Eye Diamond - Some people like using Lion’s Eye Diamond as a way to make a pile with Future Sight without using extra mana, besides the one in the pile. But as we dig deeper on the deck, new lines have been added, including some that do the same as the Lion’s Eye Diamond. Losing our hand is too much for mono-U, even more that we can do the same without losing our hand.

Future Sight - As stated above on Lion’s Eye Diamond, we have better lines, and Future Sight is too expensive for what it does.

I will not be commenting on the usual good blue cards, but instead do a brief review of cards that work well with Fblthp, the Lost

Proteus Staff - This card is what make this deck competitive. Being able to assemble our lines with a simple activation is what makes this card busted on this deck.

Gush - Similar to the normal Doomsday piles, the free draw 2 helps a lot on the construction of the piles, and being mono U makes even easier to have 2 Islands.

Mox Amber - This artifact, because of its clause, is not used as much on multiple decks. But we can abuse if for 2 reasons, first being that we want Fblthp, the Lost on the field as fast that we can, and second, to our pile to work we need our commander, making this generate U almost all the time.

Brainstorm - This card is busted, we know it all. But on this deck, is double busted, as can be used as part of our combo lines. Take in mind that we may need to preserve for the combo, if Gush is unaccessible.

Yes, you can play this deck without Timetwister and The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale. I would substitute for Into the Roil and Frantic Search. This should cut the price in 50%.

The base of this deck is 6 cards: Fblthp, the Lost, Proteus Staff, Isochron Scepter, Dramatic Reversal, Paradox Engine, Sensei’s Divining Top. All other cards can be exchanged, but the cards on the list above is what I believe the most optimal for playing this deck.
