Abzan Whip takes the need to outlast an opponent to the next level, without playing any outlast cards. It uses Siege Rhinos, Anafenza's, and Fleecemane Lion, for the aggro Midrange... it leans green with Arbor Colossus, Hornet Queen, and Polukranos for the beat down... and We've got Soul of Theros and Wingmate Roc for some big pump and life swings....

Then the Whip is There To Swing Them All Again!

The Sideboard is an extension of the deck. Genesis Hydra and MIndrot for control, Drown in Sorrow for aggro, some extra removal for all situations, and two Duneblast for the Abzan and Mardu Midrange matchups, and because your creatures serve you just as well in the graveyard.

So, 4-0 at the FNM, 3-1 On Saturday Night Tournament, 5-0, on Sunday I don't know what it was called, but, it was a Tournament.

Friday Night Magic: Played an Abzan Mirror first match, it wasn't even a competition. I was at 100 life by turn 10, and had a board of creatures, including Soul of Theros... He main decked End Hostilities, but with two Siege Rhinos on the board, I whipped back and swung for the win.

Next match, Mono Red devotion, first game mulled down to 4 and on the draw. He got me down to 2, but with a Siege Rhino out, and top decking soul of Theros, I was able to regain life, stabalize the board, and pull ahead.

Next match was mono black devotion, (really heavy aggro decks, I guess people saw the midrange on the wall). First turn I got lucky, two whips, two caryatid, two forest in my hand, and I was on the play. Thoughtseize took a caryatid, I played the other, drew a courser, and had a turn 3 Whip of Erebos into play, and turn four Arbor Colossus, turn five Siege Rhino... He killed off the arbor, but the Siege Rhino stayed on long enough to swing my life up to 35, and then whipping back the arbor colossus really was spelling doom. Master of the Feast gave me an extra draw, and with my extra life, it was game over. Game 2 he beat me with a late game Grey's Merchant, right when I played Whip and Anafenza and was a turn away from balancing the board with Siege Rhino in my hand and Two Coursers and Anafenza on the board. Match 3, he got mana screwed, and I got too far ahead that by turn 6 I won.

Final was U/W Heroic. First match, he got mana screwed, and nothing really happened. Second match went for 45 minutes... it felt like it never ended. He sided in Ordeals of Heliod, and some Erase, by turn 4 he had a 7/8 Favored Hoplite and was at 40 life. I cast Soul of Theros, chump blocked with my Anafenza... Top Decked hornet queen, and an untapped land on top with my Courser in Play, cast Hornet Queen. Next card was a Soul of Theros, I attacked with Soul and the bees, and used it's ability. He feat of Resistance and blocked Soul. but with 16 life swing, I was good. Next turn played the other Soul of theros, swung with the bees again for 5, leaving one behind to block. He drew aqueous form, but ten damage didn't dent my already huge gain, and next turn I swung again, and gained 24 life, putting him at 8, and he gave in.

Saturday: Abzan Mirror was no task for Soul of Theros and then couldn't do anything against a whip and hornet queen. Mardu Midrange Control controlled the board early on, but got overwhelmed with my big creatures, and I finally got a Whip to stick, it was game over. Esper control, I got my whip out the first time, and won, cause all the creatures he kept countering kept shooting back and slapping his life points, while I sat back and gained life. Game 2, he schooled me, kept everything off the board, and just beat me down with Pearl Lake Ancient. Game 3, I genesis Hydra a whip, but, the extra removal just didn't let me keep creatures on long enough, and though it was a game of attrition, at the end, with a Banishing Light, that was game. First loss!

Next up, Abzan Mirror, wasn't much of a challenge.

Sunday had a bunch of fun decks. Game 1 was Sultai Reanimator and we almost drew, but game 2, I drew the Duneblast, and started being able to swing with a six/six, and swing back all my 6/6's taking care of his whipped back bee's, and trampling over with a Siege rhino.. Match 2, Mardu Aggro, just bad draws both time, so not much to report, I won. Match 3, Esper Control, no Banishing light and no Counter spells on turn 3, got Whip out, no Banishing lights all game, and the game 2, I got a perfect hand, and played whip, got my whip taken out by Banishing light, I banishing light their banishing light, they erased my banishing light, they Ashiok, I downfalled, they Elspeth, Elspeth, and I utter End (countered), Hero's Downfall,, eventually, it was over, and after an end Hostilities wiped the board, I whipped back creatures, and his life points fell down.

Match 4: Ascendancy Token Combo: He won game 1 with a turn four combo. I sided in Banishing Lights, Duneblasts, Utter End, and Drown in Sorrow... Game 2 I beat him down, and kept his board clean. Game 3, I decided to thrown in a duneblast, and though it didn't make a difference, it cleared the board of 7 tokens, and left me with a Siege Rhino in play, and 2 in the graveyard. He took 11 the next turn, 11 the turn after that, and then Hornet Queen met there was nothing for him to do.

Match 5: Naya Midrange: Game 1 took me by surprise with a Bow of Nylea and Goblin Rabblemaster. Drew no whip, drew no Soul, had no life gain, and with a hand full of burn, there was nothing I could do. Game 2: He drew no red mana, and I mowed over him. Game 3: I drew no black mana, but a single Sylvan Caryatid for most of the game, but, got out Soul of Theros, Polukranos, and Arbor Colossus. He didn't get his Bow of Nylea, and I kept killing his creatures with Downfall's and Abzan Charm... the moment he cast bow of Nylea, I Utter Ended it, and that was pretty much game.

I'm happy with how this deck worked. It pulled out at every end. and Just dominated. Can't wait to try it again this week.
