@Hewhobetrays: Dang, I forgot about her. I'll try to get hold of one, thanks for reminding me.

I have a very similar deck that runs a few less creatures but most of the Reanimate staples. How does Xathrid Gorgon work for you? I've been on the fence about adding it to my deck. Are you able to actually pull off the Jar of Eyeballs ? It looks to be a difficult effect to use efficiently.Have you seen Bog Witch ? It can help accelerate into your big cards early since all of your cards become Dark Ritual s.

@OKing91: The gorgon was removed from the deck a while ago, I just forgot to update. Oops >_>

Jar of Eyeballs tends to work quite nicely for me, since it's just a passive (and emergency) tutoring device. If I end up Board wiping or using Attrition , it often grabs me cards I need to recover.

Bog Witch : My meta has grown wiser to GY shenanigans lately, so I don't think it's right for this deck, but I like it. Getting Sheoldred or any six-drops out earlier is nice.

what about drana and also how do you make the card names get highlighted?

Butcher of Malakir ? Grave Pact on legs (or wings)

also, how about Abyssal Gatekeeper ?

October 13, 2012 1:05 p.m.

FoxOn36 says... #7

@tkpritch:

I originally had the Butcher in here, but he competes in the (already packed) 6+ mana area. I decided to drop him over over alternatives. Of course, this is EDH, so higher CMCs aren't too bad.

Abyssal Gatekeeper may be worth a try, but what to remove? :l

how good are Sudden Spoiling and card:Praetor's Grasp? i've never used either of them so i don't want to tell you to take out something i have no experience with

October 13, 2012 1:11 p.m.

FoxOn36 says... #9

@tkpritch: Sudden Spoiling is one of my favorite 'toolbox' spells. It can be used to defend against a (former) horde of creatures, or can be used in conjunction with Massacre Wurm or card:Black Sun's Zenith to make a (near) one-sided boardwipe.

card:Praetor's Grasp just allows me to take out stuff from other player's libraries. Need a Sol Ring ? Take someone elses. Cripple a combo deck etc.

word. i'd never seen Helldozer before...dope card, but doesn't seem like it fits the bill for this kind of deck. he's also hangin out at that 6 cmc competitive slot

October 13, 2012 1:44 p.m.

FoxOn36 says... #11

@tkpritch: I guess so. I only use it as an LD tool, as I have no Strip Mine s. My only problem with the Gatekeeper is that it's ability triggers on death, unlike Fleshbag Marauder .

you do have Skullclamp , but for Abyssal Gatekeeper as well as anything when combined with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed , Grave Pact , or certain other things that you might want going to the yard (like Kokusho, the Evening Star before returning it with sheoldred), you might want an additional sac outlet.

Viscera Seer is really useful despite the lame appearance. especially if you ever were to get ahold of card:Sensei's Divining Top (expensive, but I run it in every pile now that I have one). other options to consider (though there are surely more than just these) are Corpse Harvester (which can set up sac + mikaeus) and Malevolent Awakening as an alternate way to recur creatures. I prefer Viscera Seer 's instant, free sacrifice, as it allows you to respond to any deaths with a quick "scry 1" and also combos beautifully with Living Death

Disciple of Griselbrand can also fit the bill...but i wouldn't prefer him

October 13, 2012 8:21 p.m.

drana would be good

October 13, 2012 10:31 p.m.

FoxOn36 says... #15

@tkpritch: I'll try to get a hold of a Viscera Seer . I guess it also doubles as an anti-theft device.

I actually do have a Top, but it's going into my Isperia EDH, where it is more useful.

@phatpatdargonmaster51: I looked at Drana, but she doesn't really appeal to me, sadly. I'll try her out though, thanks for the suggestion.

This is a paper deck, the Maze is a bit out my price range, unfortunately.

Sheoldred + Braids, Cabal Minion is sickening. Oversold Cemetery is another all star as well.

Also if tutors are a bit expensive you can use Expedition Map to fetch utility lands. Some good lands include card:Shizo, Death's Storehouse, card:Volrath's Stronghold, Phyrexian Tower , Eye of Ugin and Miren, the Moaning Well . The ever dreaded Dark Depths + Vampire Hexmage /AEther Snap combo is nasty too.

Either way +1. For mono black Sheoldred's about as badass a general as you can get. Her surrounding parts are pretty solid too.

I would try to find more cards that put stuff into the graveyard, stuff like Shared Trauma , Golgari Thug , Necroplasm , Stinkweed Imp , and Corpse Connoisseur

November 9, 2012 11:25 p.m.

Zen_Toombs says... #20

You look like you could use some more land, I would try to bump it up to 39. As of right now, it statistically takes you until turn 11 to get 6 lands out, which is where your mana doublers sit. You also don't have near enough mana rocks to smooth that out.

I'd strongly consider going up to 39 land, seeing as that gets you to 6 lands by turn 8.

FoxOn36 says... #21

@emrakool: Good call on Braids and the Cemetery, I'll try to get hold of them. I'll try to grab some of those lands, but I'm currently on a strict budget. I definitely need to get Miren or High Market to stop those annoying theft spells.

@parasitian: I ran Buried Alive for a while when I first built this deck, but I don't run a lot of reanimation (bar Sheoldred herself) and it didn't work out too well.

@Zen_Toombs: Thanks for the tip, but the question is: 'What to remove?'

I'm a huge fan of Korlash, Heir to Blackblade . I understand he doesn't have any etb effects, but he's quite the stick when it comes to a mono black deck with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth

November 12, 2012 1:02 p.m.

Zen_Toombs says... #23

I'd suggest cutting Grave Titan , Phyrexian Revoker , Go for the Throat , Jar of Eyeballs and either Murder or Snuff Out . I'd also suggest cutting Mortivore and replacing him with Darksteel Plate to complete the standard "General Protection Package".

November 12, 2012 1:49 p.m.

Zen_Toombs says... #24

@ Carson

In EDH, it is far more likely that Mortivore with be a huge/huge than Korlash, Heir to Blackblade , and Mortivore is slightly harder to kill (B to regenerate instead of 1B, can use copy effects to kill Korlash, etc). In order for a beatstick with no ETB or evasion to be worth the slot in EDH, it needs to be pretty monstrous. Like Lord of Extinction monstrous.

November 12, 2012 2:55 p.m.

FoxOn36 says... #25

@Zen_Toombs: Revoker, Mortivore and the Jar, I can agree with. Spot removal is too important to pass up, though. Grave titan has helped me too much though, so I'd rather not cut him. :/
