Im very curious, have you faced any of the big contending decks with this yet? By which i mean Red deck wins and/or devotion to blue? They seem to be winning tournaments at, probably because they're quick, but i was wondering if this deck was just as quick/quick enough to hold it's own?

I have a better than 50/50 win rate against red deck. It really depends on how many Burning-Tree Emissary s hit board turn 2. The reason being Fiendslayer Paladin and my other life gain cards. Once a slayer hits the field I normally have the game locked.

Mono blue doesn't do well against me to be honest. With all my first strike and life gain even by dropping a big turn 4 master, they're already behind, if an angel hits board next turn, that's usually game.

Brave the Elements is of course a powerhouse in both match ups for me.

This is true, Brave the Elements just is stupid sometimes! But i suppose that with tidebinder not being able to lock you down, but yes burning tree is also stupid in standard sometimes ><

i can see the Fiendslayer Paladin also being...difficult in both match ups! and i expect selesnya aggro, is too slow aswell ><

Have you considered maybe adding Heliod, God of the Sun ? as he is a 5/5 for 4 with you not having any 4 drops atall, plus i'm sure vigilance could really not hurt this deck! also gives you some deffence if they pull of a field clear, via the tokens, Though i don't expect that'd happen much...

I have given him a thought, especially in the games where I'm Shrine ramping 10 mana and have nothing to do with it other than cast a 2 mana spell.

I'm just not sold on the gods yet though. Their devotion is so conditional, and though the vigilance is nice, without him being able to swing, I feel I'd be better off with a different stat based enchant. Holy Mantle has given me more pause to be honest, it turns any of my small creatures into a tun clock.

i originally thought the same about the devotion, however the god itself counts towards his devotion, meaning, you actually only need 4 white mana symbols on the board by that time, and you have 16 permanents in your deck with 2 white in it, effectively meaning, you'll likely need 2 or 3 creatures/enchantments to make him a creature,

It does initially seem difficult, but in creature based decks, you'll be surprised just how easy it seems to happen, all you'd need would be a Precinct Captain and a Fiendslayer Paladin , or a Judge's Familiar , Fencing Ace and cpt'n / paladin!I think it may be something worth testing atleast :)

What are you using the Dryad Militant for? I know they exile the instants and sorceries, but what are you worried about being brought back?

Felixlives says... #7

Dryad Militant is a beast 2/1 first drop i mean Soldier of the Pantheon is better but for the price the dryad is champion.

@Pyroshade Yeah I'll give it a try, I'm actually trying Hopeful Eidolon as a versatile 1//4 drop option. I was actually excited about the idea of a Fencing Ace bestowed with it.

@MTdude When the roll over occurred all the Delver turds in my meta were running the Spellheart Chimera Izzet build, I found out I can handle them easily though and as of now I'm just using them as extra bodies against aggro decks. They tend to be better on the field then a flare in hand. In on all honesty they might be the side board spot for more Soldier of the Pantheon but there aren't any in stock at my local shop and I don't feel like it's a time sensitive issue.

They are a decent piece against that Izzet build.

Yeah, to be honest though Rest in Peace is far more effective, and they have no real removal for it.

This reminds me of a deck in my FNM, though not as fast if I recall. Looks awesome man makes me glad I run mil to win, but your board presence is freaky fast!

Monoxidechild says... #15

haha yeah turn 4 Elspeth's freak people out man.

Shadoh.net says... #16

Haha no doubt i'm tempted to show him your deck so he speeds his up as a friend, but as an opponent i'm worried!

Monoxidechild says... #17

That might be a bad idea, I haven't had much stand in my way lol

I love the deck, I'm thinking of building a version that incorporates Heroic.

One question, how would you deal with a mono-black devotion (or any) deck running Erebos, God of the Dead ?

Shadoh.net says... #19

If you've got any advice to share mind popping over to Dimir Calls You to Mil? Good luck with the deck!

Monoxidechild says... #20

Erobos is actually the one card that can single handedly destroy this deck's strategy. My Solutions? Angelic Edict , Celestial Flare , and Elspeth, Sun's Champion . With out Erobos on the field stopping my lifegain, I actually stomp mono-black. My goal at that point is honestly just to get board presence and win before they get one out, ain't easy though = /

October 23, 2013 3:18 a.m.

Felixlives says... #21

Only way ive got to deal with erebos is splashing red or blue for either Chained to the Rocks or Detention Sphere or dont bank on lifegain to win

October 23, 2013 3:34 a.m.

Monoxidechild says... #22

I may be splashing blue in this deck when the next set drops mainly for hand feed and scry lands. Detention Sphere Would be a bonus as well.

October 23, 2013 3:39 a.m.

GamerSonX says... #23

what is your reason for Elspeth, Sun's Champion as a solution to Erebos, God of the Dead ? just curious...

October 23, 2013 6:55 a.m.

DannyG says... #24

guess, he got it wrong, Elspeth could get rid of him if he wasn't indestructible

I was thinking that a Blue splash would work here as well, that's a deck I'm trying to work on now. You could deal with gods with Swan Song or Detention Sphere .

You also open up a world of options for adding Fabled Hero or Phalanx Leader and some of the cheap heroic triggers Triton Tactics Aqueous Form or even Mizzium Skin (even though the overload doesn't trigger heroic it is a nice option to have).

Sphinx's Revelation would also make a nice addition, and if you included Hidden Strings you could pull off some neat tricks with Heroics and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx .

I'm putting together a deck like this today, I'll link it if you wouldn't mind taking a look.
