Kytheon, Hero of Akros  Flip is a lightning rod for removal, whether he's a creature or a Planeswalker. He'll get removed so often that I generally don't have a problem with having one stuck in my hand.

Kytheon's Irregulars could serve as a good mana dump

LordDerrien, would you run Archangel of Tithes over Wingmate Roc? It's something I'm thinking about.

oldelpaso, yea, I'm running two Kytheon's Irregulars. It looks strong in this deck.

@Nelstone That is a hard question. Wingmate Rocs ability synergizes really well with your weenies. On the other side so does Archangel of Tithes. The angel can block better and punch the damage through.

I think the damage is what matters the most, and Archangel of Tithes helps you applying that damage.

Last but not least, she is cheaper by one mana. That is a lot in a weenie strategy. In this regard Wingmate Roc is too midrangey in my opinion.

Have you thought of Great Teacher's Decree maybe as a replacement of inspired charge.

October 8, 2015 8:15 p.m.

Nelstone says... #7

TheStormCrow, sorcery speed is the problem. You cast Great Teacher's Decree during your first main phase, and your opponent know it's coming. They then can setup blocks that work out best for them. Then they can cast removal that best benefits them, and the rebound becomes diminished or, worse yet, useless.

With Inspired Charge, you can cast it after blockers are declared and blow them out. Since they know you have it in subsequent games, whenever you attack or pass the turn with 4 mana up, they face the threat of activation.

Great read and yeah Standard is only getting more and more expensive but, those 300-700 dollar decks win consistently in the big events. Unfortunately these low cost efficient type decks don't last long enough into a day 2 tourney to make any big splashes.

The thing is, most people on tappedout aren't grinders. They aren't going to IQs, GPs, or other major events regularly. They're going to FNM. They're playing kitchen table Magic. They're on this site because they like expressing creativity through the brewing of decks and sharing them with the community, decks that are not just another build of something on mtgtop8.com. They like to win with something of their own creation. They feel good when others see something in a deck they've built and upvote it. I'm stoked that this made #1 on tappedout. This is the first time one of decks has accomplished that.

Of course this deck isn't tier 1 in Standard. It might be tier 2.5, at best. But that's not the point. This isn't built for big event play; it's meant to be brought to FNM, catch lightning in a bottle and make top 8. Or, to beat up your friends with at a kitchen table.

The nature of Magic is such that the pros will evaluate the format and brew decks that are big event-worthy, regardless of cost. We will build those decks if and when we, the Magic masses, attend those big events. If the extent of your competitive Magic play is at the FNM level on an occasional basis and you live on a budget, a deck like this will allow you to compete without the exorbitant price tag.

Nelstone, I agree. It may sound mean, but it feels pretty good to take a fun deck like this to FNM and see the face of the insert this weeks top deck player when his (or typically his moms since I play a lot of JH/HS kids) $700 loses to a few common one and two drops.

Plus, if you end up losing a few, you get to see other FNM players homebrew decks and ideas and that is a hell of a lot more fun than playing the same 2-3 decks over and over and over...

What about Seeker of the Way? He is a warrior so Arashin Foremost will have even more targets. I mean, she's the best card in the deck. In my opinon.

or is a dude? idk

Oh and how about Celestial Flare? Great removal for mono white

October 9, 2015 4:16 p.m.

Nelstone says... #14

Seeker of the Way was in the running, but the two-drop slot is full of high-value creatures I don't want to replace. Also, I don't have a real lot to trigger prowess. I think he's a dude.

Celestial Flare is really good, but I don't know what it would replace.

October 9, 2015 4:25 p.m.

QuackAttack says... #15

Just keep in mind it can shut control dragons, such as Silumgar, the Drifting Death, Dragonlord Ojutai, and Thunderbreak Regent without even targeting him. just some thoughts

Nelstone says... #16

That's a strong argument for Celestial Flare, QuackAttack.

October 9, 2015 6:12 p.m.

Nelstone says... #17

I'm in on Celestial Flare. I've decided that Arashin Cleric is more of a sideboard card for midrange and control decks, and less so for aggro. Dropping the Cleric opened up spots for three Celestial Flare and a third Surge of Righteousness.

what about the Secure the Wastes

Warriors?

October 10, 2015 1:53 a.m.

Nelstone says... #19

I can see Secure the Wastes fitting in a version of this deck. I went a little larger than the usual white weenie build, with Kytheon's Irregulars and Archangel of Tithes as 4-drops. Having them makes me want to protect them, so that's why I've got 2 Feat of Resistance.

You could replace those four 4-drops and the two Feat with three Secure the Wastes and three Kor Bladewhirls and have a pretty good weenie deck, on paper.

Why not Gideon, Ally of Zendikar? His emblem and creature side would both be great in this deck, plus his token generation.

Hahah, your deck's description is fantastic, I really like the montage and the Scrooge/Pete Griffin GIFs XD.

Now let's dive into the technical aspects. We're talking business, we're the white weenie specialists after all :-)

First of all, I could definitely see some copies of Mastery of the Unseen, an extra Knight of the White Orchid as well as Seeker of the Way and a few other cards in here.

Mastery of the Unseen doesn't attack or block, in fact it doesn't affect the board when you cast it, but having a way to make threats even when you have no cards in hand is very important, especially when you're aiming to dump your hand of 2/1 for as fast as possible. It can also steal the game if you have it in your hand Game 1 versus a control deck.

Having 4 KtWO ( Knight of the White Orchid ) is very important, because you want to curve out into your 4 mana threats as often and fast as possible. I see no reason to not run 4, the card's simply too good to pass on.

21 lands is kinda risky, you definitely should add more to be able to cast a threat and keep mana up for a Feat of Resistance . Also, there's nothing more frustrating then keeping a 2 land hand that looks good, but then get stuck at 2 lands while the opponent deploys his Siege Rhino and Gideon, Ally of Zendikar. If you add Mastery of the Unseen to your deck, keeping a 4 land 3 spells opening hand is really great.

Seeker of the Way is another very solid card. It synergizes extremely well with all the non-creature spells of your deck and it's often a 3/3 lifelinker that can get Double Strike with Arashin Foremost.

Let's move into the card distributions and sideboard.

My first suggestion is to run 3 Valorous Stance mainboard and 1 sideboard : I have been doing this with all of my white decks and I'm really convinced that it's the best configuration.

Why ? Valorous Stance is INCREDIBLE against soooo many decks and it works perfectly in this kind of white aggro deck.

The first reason is that the second mode still has tons of important targets after the rotation : Siege Rhino is the obvious one, but it also kills all the Dragonlords, Drana, Liberator of Malakir after she attacked once and a very large Monastery Swiftspear that has double strike with Temur Battle Rage

But there's more ! The first mode makes sure that your important threats stay in play against control deck that have fewer targets for the second mode.<

A combat trick with this kind of flexibility is a very strong way to make sure your creatures get through the bigger ones and small creatures ( except Mantis Rider ) aren't much of a problem for your deck that has so many instances of First Strike, Double Strike and Archangel of Tithes, speaking of which, is a lot better then Kytheon's Irregulars. Trust me, Archangel of Tithes is an amazing card.

Other then that, I think you should add a few copies of Stasis Snare to your mainboard. It's the white Hero's Downfall and it totally wrecks Hangarback Walker and Dromoka's Command shenanigans, as well as any other creature at INSTANT-speed.

In my opinion, having 16 2/1 is a bit overkill. In order to make some room in your deck, you should definitely cut some of thoses, Expedition Envoy being the first one to cut, since it has 0 synergy with your deck and is a terrible topdeck later in the game on where a Mardu Woe-Reaper or Dragon Hunter could still get you some value.

I hope that some of my suggestions have been helpful to you, it's nice to see that White Weenie finally gets the attention it deserves :-).

I think it would be a good idea to replace Inspired Charge with Kytheon's Tactics, Its almost the exact same card for 1 mana cheaper with an upside. I know that Kytheon's tactics is a sorcery speed, but for a fast deck like White Weenie, I don't think that matters too much. Although the deck looks really good! I was looking for something to replace my Mono Red Aggro, this seems like a fine aggro deck! Good job!

Holy sh*t, 95 upvotes. Looks like a lot of people want a competitive mono white deck!

Shpigster, two reasons. One, Gideon, Ally of Zendikar is currently $35, and will probably go higher after the Pro Tour. Two, he can't be on the field the same time as Gideon, Battle-Forged  Flip. He could probably co-exist in the deck with Kytheon, but not until he comes down in price.

ShinzoFTW, I'm on the fence about the sorcery speed of Kytheon's Tactics. I like the flexibility on instant speed. I'll test it out more and see how it goes. Thanks for the compliments, it's appreciated.

Araganor, happy to hear you're impressed. Mono white aggro has legs this Standard, I just know it.

-Sylex-, where do I start. You've made a ton of great points. I'l separate out my responses.

  • Mastery of the Unseen is an interesting recommendation. I see the value it offers, between providing bodies and especially flipping up a one-drop manifest with numerous creatures on the board. Great life gain. If you have an idea how it could fit into the deck, I'm all ears. The deck feels pretty tight to me.

  • I like starting game 1 with 3 Knight of the White Orchid in the main. This means I may not see it immediately, which raises the odds of getting the card advantage value. I do have a 4th in the sideboard for when I'm on the play. I've found this configuration to work out pretty well.

  • I'm considering pulling the 4 Expedition Envoy for 4 Seeker of the Way. It changes the decks early game, but might give it more legs late game. A very good recommendation.

  • I am running 22 lands, not 21. Need to get to that 4 mana threshold :)

  • Playing with configurations, it looks like I'd have to drop at least one Silkwrap to up Valorous Stance to 3 in the main. I like the idea of having two Silkwrap in the deck game one, so I don't know if I'll make that change.

  • Upping Archangel of Tithes to 4-of is a serious consideration. I am interested in seeing if Kytheon's Irregulars is playable. If I untap with him in play, he can tap down some major threats.

  • Moving Stasis Snare to the main is another move that would jettison Silkwrap for room. I really think having that ability at 2CMC in game one will be valuable (although not at instant speed, like the Snare), but moving the Snare into the main may be the right move.

I have another iteration of the deck here. This deck is blowing up on tappedout and I don't want to greatly modify that which everyone has upvoted.

Thanks again to everyone commenting. Keep the comments coming! Let's make the best possible White Weenie deck together!

Even though I'm not even planning to build white weenie, this is easily a useful read. Nicely done!
