Attempt to build a more competitive Commander deck for my strong play group.


Control, board wipes, and politics are how this deck stays alive until a Creature comes out that can help win the game.

How It All Works

Early Game

  • Ramp
  • Draw

Mid Game

  • Counter threats
  • Board wipe

Late Game

  • Cast and attack with Creatures
  • Protect Creatures with Counter spells, and abilities of Creatures

Politics

  • Listen to the group and Counter big threats that worry them. This will show that I can protect myself, but also that I am worth not killing.
  • Do deals eg. "If I Counter that will you attack that Player next turn?" "If anyone else attacks me this turn I'm going to wipe the board."
  • Offer to board wipe when an Opponent has gone wide.

If suggestions fall outside those guidelines they will unfortunately not be considered.


I'm testing Azorius Guildmage instead of Forbid. If I don't think it's effective I will swap them back.

Iona, Shield of Emeria has been removed from the Sideboard, as it is now banned.

To save money you can swap The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale for Homeward Path.

The first time I played this, about a year ago now, it virtually made one of my friends cry.

That wasn't enjoyable for me so I retired this deck.
