loopsorspool I agree which is why its in the maybe board but he isn't modern legal sadly so this deck would have to be casual at that point....

Try Primal Vigor in place of doubling season. It is basically the same but only doubles +1/+1 counters.

Both of them would indeed break the deck but they both are "win more" cards.

Do you know of any modern legal cards that have +1/1 counters and have utility at a low cmc? I'm looking for something like Spike Weaver or Spike Feeder

I'll look into it. I'll report my progress tomorrow-ish. It will be fun and good research for the decks I like to play.

Tuskguard Captain: It gives trample plus it can give itself counters.

Vorel of the Hull Clade: Doubles counters. 'nough said.

Gilder Bairn: Also doubles counters and isn't legendary, but you have to untap it to use its ability. there are many ways around this, but still the biggest drawback.

Servant of the Scale: One drop that gives out counters when it dies.

Slitherhead: Scavenge for zero.

Avatar of the Resolute: It's a cheaper Cytoplast Root-Kin.

Thrummingbird: Proliferate at 2 with evasion.

Nissa, Voice of Zendikar: Use the -2 like it's going out of style.

Bioshift: If someone casts a kill spell, this will save all of those precious counters.

Strength of the Tajuru: It's Comet Storm in green that's all about those counters.

Scavenging Ooze: Eats graveyards.

Scute Mob: The beetles grow ridiculously fast for only one mana.

Fungal Behemoth: It's funnier Avatar of the Resolute.

Fertilid: Counters or you can pull out the rest of your basic lands, reducing the size of your library and making it easier to pull up spells.

Spincrusher: A reasonable substitute for Elusive Krasis.

Contagion Clasp: Proliferate plus a -1/-1 counter for something you dislike.

Epochrasite: Two drop that keeps coming back with counters.

The search I did to find these cards is here.

Hmmm. . . You know, if you switched Gyre Sage to Crystalline Crawler, you could make your land base exclusively green. Also, Novijen, Heart of Progress would do wonders with the influx of creature tokens.

loopsorspool Crystalline Crawler is a wonderful card but he is not modern legal. I also would not be able to have exclusively green mana with him added in. At least half of the creatures in the deck require blue mana and solely relying on 1 (4 of them) creature to supply that wouldn't work.

Novijen, Heart of Progress is a good idea but it only produces colorless mana. Since I need so much colored mana it wouldn't be good to take away from that. Also its ability is trumped by Renegade Krasis. If I use that same two mana on Ooze Flux and make RK evolve all creatures get another counter and I get a huge ooze.

I definitely second on Scute Mob. Just imagine casting him with biomancer and hardened scales on the field while you already have five lands. Hello, Oozeflux. Also, have you ever considered Bramblewood Paragon?

-Orvos- you seem to be forgetting that you have four Birds of Paradise in the deck. Odds of pulling up either creature in your opening hand is 65.36%. As for Novijen, Heart of Progress, it is better in the early game for this deck. I, however, agree, its use just isn't good enough. As for Crystalline Crawler, The Gatherer does not say if it is legal in modern or not. Its card frame is a modern frame which implies it is legal unless stated otherwise.

Its only printing is in the 2016 commander printing. Therefore its not a modern card.

I find that to be very strange, oh well. I don't have to understand.

Welcome to AER! Evolve picked up two new cards, but the one that piqued my interest was Rishkar, Peema Renegade. In this shell he gives you mana dorks galore (same turn as cast!), as well as an etb that offers free grafts onto cards like master biomancer and himself.

I highly recommend splashing white for Abzan Falconer as he will enable otk's and clear up the need for cloudfin. I've swapped cloudfin out for utopia sprawl altogether. I'm also testing 2-3 spell queller and Azorius Charm.

Here's an upvote.

How about switching the 2x Simic Manipulator for 2x Collected Company, it might not be usable to its full power, but it might still be worth the include.

@Grunyarth Collected Company is a good idea but for that same 4 mana I could get out 4 more servos which I understand could just be 1/1's but they could also be 8/8's or larger. Take a look at the update section for this deck to see where I'm headed with it. I'm trying to add more graft to more reliably get more +1/1 counters on things that can't generate them on their own. CC is good but it doesn't synergize with this deck and once the ball gets rolling I would probably spend the mana on servos and before the ball gets rolling I would probably spend the mana on other key creatures that i need to get out for my incredible machine to start. CC would be a great card to have only as a fail safe but with the other changes I'm planning I don't know what I'd drop for it because I'm already dropping the Simic Manipulators

rjphilla Hangarback Walker takes 2 mana to initially get 1 counter. Yes he would grow just like everything else, but in order to get all those juicy thopters... He has to die. Id rather spend the mana on getting the same amount of servos without having to kill my creature to get them. And he really doesn't bring much to the synergy of the deck so that's why no Hangarback. I'm open to hear why you think he should be in here though.

I'm fairly certain this isn't a Stax deck, but it does look really sweet.

-Orvos- says... #19

@riomhaire its a play on words ;D read the description and you'll see why I call it "stax". Its all about that stack... bout that stack....

I absolutely adore this deck! I have a question, and it may be a dumb one, by why is Ooze Flux gone? Wouldn't it be better than the Animation Module for Evolve purposes?

+1 on theme and playability, really am in love. I was looking for a fun, unique Simic deck. May potentially steal... lol

May 16, 2017 8:09 p.m.

-Orvos- says... #21

@NastyJames Ooze Flux may yet make a comeback. I'm testing to see if Thrummingbird is more effective. I've discovered that as long as there is at least one counter on Master Biomancer (MB) and a 1/1 Servo ETB causes a Renegade Krasis to evolve each servo after that will trigger the RK to evolve so long as you stack it correctly. The thrummingbird can help control what creatures get bigger so you can make your MB get bigger while leaving the RK smaller. Thrummingbird might not be as explosive as ooze flux but its more reliable. I foundd I hit a tempo wall with ooze flux since it was 4 to cast. Its also 2 to get an ooze whereas its 1 to get a servo although a smaller servo I can get twice as many.

Very nice deck! + 1 I have in my mind a deck similari to this one. Just think about Sage of Hours + BioshiftOoooh yeahhh. You seems an expert, so can an you give me your opinion about my hydra deck? Hydra's Menace

June 12, 2017 5:29 p.m.

Im very surprised you arent running Experiment One thats basically the staple green evolve creature in modern, seen in a few decks like mono green stompy with Avatar of the Resolute

Not bad though, your deck name is extremely misleading if you know where the word "stax" is derived from, the jank is strong with this one

September 17, 2017 8:25 p.m.

And how exactly are you giving gyre sage haste in order to activate these abilities? You have me very confused with mentioning "stax" in a "counters" deck, since they've never been referred to as "stacks" before

Also Strangleroot Geist is a thing

How well does this do vs the current 3-4 turn win meta?

September 17, 2017 8:29 p.m.

-Orvos- says... #25

goblinguiderevealpls the name is intended to grab attention and is still relevant to the deck. How you stack the stack can make a large difference. (Its all in the description) People be like... "Whaaaat? A blue green 'stax' deck! This I gotta see!" hook...line...sinker

Also Gyre Sage is played on T2 but everything starts T3.

This deck is not intended to be a tier 1 best ever deck but rather a unique homebrewed deck that uses mechanic and cards people don't often put together. I used to have Ooze Flux in here and it got really messy real quick... But sadly that 4cmc... Is like slamming on the brakes...
