Viashino Pyromancer goes in for Spellweaver Eternal, but for Soul-Scar Mage i got nothing better to choose from. Hopefully the Ravnica set prints a good 1-drop for Izzet.

would Siren Stormtamer be a good one drop in place of Soul-Scar Mage?
July 18, 2018 1:06 a.m.
I honestly don’t know. Mage has prowess and synergizes well with Adeliz, but the Siren can protect any buffed up creature. I don’t really know if the one drop slot has any better options

Dismissive Pyromancer is interesting. It is a bit slow being a 2/2 for 2 that doesn’t have prowess but it can fix my land spam/screw and can get rid of Greenbelt Rampagers and Steel Leaf Champions

Almost the same as my deck, but I left out Soul-Scar Mage and Spellweaver Eternal as rotation is about to hit. Using direct damage from red spells and wizards to synergize with The Flame of Keld ( I use 3 instead of 2 ) also Mystic Archaeologist is probably my favorite card in standard right now, I would always use at least 2.
My playstyle is hit hard early, empty my hand, play The Flame of Keld, survive 2 turns and use 4+ cards to deal direct damage with +2 bonus damage.
Tempest Caller is an awesome finisher, I use 1x

Mystic Archaeologist is literally a 2/1 for 2 that does nothing for me because I never will win at 5+ lands.
Tempest Caller is not necessary because he is too weak at a 2/2 for 4. His ability won’t come in handy because I burn all of the opponents creatures. Thanks for the suggestion though

How useful and consistent would you say Flame if Keld actually is in your deck? I put together the previous version of your deck with ghostforms and it seems pretty good

I actually run 4x The Flame of Keld as it's awesome. On empty hand it's draw 2 and then an awesome finisher effect.

Ideally, are you aiming to play it late game or midgame?
August 2, 2018 12:05 p.m.
I put in the two The Flame of Kelds because the deck needed a way to regain its gas. I run only two in the deck because in my testing, when I drew it on a hand of gas, then it was a dead card and it only slowed my deck down because it wasn’t a spell or creature. Also, if I have two in one hand, the other becomes dead as I have to discard my hand playing just 1 Flame. Once midrange/late game hits I can draw it to regain my gas and play like it’s turn 3. Ideally, the game can choose to give me it at any time, so running it showed better results in most situations of testing.

The ONE thing that keeps me from running it and keeps me favouring your previous version was that its particularly vulnerable to Blink of an eye for example. Im not sure how many people play degenerate U/W control in your store but its half the meta at mine.

Hey! Awesome list, I'm using this as a template for a build of mine.
Questions: How do lands limit your ability to plan what to cast pre-combat and what to hold ready for their turn?
For example if you were thinking of keeping Spell Pierce ready if they play a sweeper, otherwise you'd Shock face, you'd need to plan your turn so that you leave a UR land up.
How does this affect your sequencing and how much does colored mana limit you? Or, do you find that, for example, you're nearly always using red on your turn and blue on theirs so there's rarely a problem, or something similar?

Adding to my previous:
How often do you find yourself playing noncreatures aggressively for Prowess, and when do you switch gears to play more on their turn instead?
August 6, 2018 9:12 a.m.
It really depends on the matchup and my hand:
Question 1: I leave a UR land up whenever I do for example have a Shock and Spell Pierce in hand, but only a basic if I just want to either fool the opponent or leave up a response.
Question 2: If my opponent doesn’t choose to block any of my prowess creatures, and if I have mana open to burn them, then I continue to do so. I almost always Opt on my main phase when I am preparing to attack because it can help me grab a Adeliz or Lavarunner before I swing. If I have a SS Mage attacking and the creature they block with is bigger than it can deal with, then I burn the creature to prowess and keep my creature alive in most cases.
Hopefully that answers your questions!

whats your thoughts on search for azcanta in the deck?
August 7, 2018 11:48 p.m.
Lordvyce I previously tried out Search for Azcanta Flip in the deck and realized that it is too slow against an Aggro or midrange deck. I have 1 in the sideboard because it’s good to filter my draws against a slower deck that has lots of responses.

What do you think about Aven Wind Mage? It's a bit expensive, but it basically has prowess and flying. Did you really introduced Viashino in the deck, in the end, as you've written in the comment section?

Glad to see an update. I tried your list, it was pretty good but a little slow to match up real well with my store meta. You definitely need more creatures in the list: the trick is, Prowess on its own isnt actually all that useful unless you have like 4 wizards and an adeliz, because everything gets either +1 or +2 as a result.
August 9, 2018 7:29 p.m.
Aven Wind Mage may be another flyer, but as a 2/2 that only pumps himself at the turn I want to cast an Adeliz it just won’t do it.
I don’t know why my list wasn’t fast enough for you drsnailtrail because I’ve made it super fast by taking out Wizard's Retort and adding in the Viashino. At my meta I outrace other fast decks and burn control decks too quick.

It might just come down to play style at the end of the day. Mine is a lot more "i put this down you lose two life". My store meta is almost exclusively R/B or U/W. I do LIKE your list a lot better than the deck techs that came out at the beginning of Dominaria however, ive been following since day one

Well today is the day I head into Orlando. I will be doing a Standard Side Event today before the Main event tomorrow so I can check some card interactions and stuff like that. I will post my results and probably some changes that have to be made.
Thanks drsnailtrail for your opinions on this deck over other decks. Really means a lot to me :D.

as a fellow Izzet Wizards player, what are you planning to swap out when rotation hits?
