Lotrboom28 Well in that case...I technically do play green. Tasigur, the Golden Fang's active can be used with green mana.

I'm really liking what you're doing with this deck but I have a few questions.

  1. Is 7 creatures too few? Do you survive long enough to cast them? In control decks, I'm a big believer in 10 creatures, as you normally see 1 in your opening hand and will draw 1-2 in the first 3-4 turns.

  2. I'm not a huge fan of mana leak, unless you're all in with 3-4 and can play it turns 3, 4 and 5. It's absolutely dead turns 6+ unless they get greedy and try to jam more than 1 spell a turn. Try out an Ojutai Command and Painful Truths. You might not like them, but so far, I'm impressed with both.

  3. 2 Wraths seems conservative. In the current creature dominated meta, I'm loving 4-5 wrath effects. Damnation is expensive, but Wrath of God will perform the same job. In fact, even Languish can do work.

  4. Last but not least, I'd try out a few Tango Lands. This is what I believe will take Control to the next level because as a control player you know that our life total is our greatest resource. 2 points of damage can mean the game in a field full of Lightning bolts. I'd try out Prairie Stream Sunken Hollow and Smoldering Marsh Even if it's only 1 of each. T1 Fetch Island, T2 fetch next most needed color, T3-4 fetch tangos until turns 5-6 you can fetch tapped or untapped shocks. It allows you to better plan ahead instead of just instinctively shocking yourself and taking 2 life. Late in the game, maybe you don't need the life and can waste it on an untapped shock, but maybe you'll need to have an untapped hallowed fountain, just fetch the tango.

Just my thoughts! I like the toolbox approach. If you need a deck feel free to try mine out!

First, I'd like to say thank you for taking the time to look my list over and give some suggestions. It's greatly appreciated.

Now then, onto the suggestions you've given.

  1. I very rarely have trouble getting down the seven creatures in the deck. I'm almost always capable of surviving long enough to get them down and to have them stick down. I have thought a lot about trying out flip Jace as at least a two of, but haven't decided for sure.

  2. Mana Leak is really the only counter spell that felt right when starting the deck out. It was, for the first two renditions, a three-of, but got dropped down to two in this newest version. I really like the Ojutai's Command idea, but don't quite know how I feel about Painful Truths. I've never personally understood why people like the card so much, and just see Read the Bones as strictly better, but feel like I can't honestly say until I actually play a number of games with it.

  3. I have thought from time to time "Is two Verdicts really enough?" This last FNM that I attended really made it feel like another two wrath effects in the sideboard would really help things out. I'm just not sure whether I'd want Damnation(s), Wrath of God(s), or more Verdict(s).

  4. Honestly, this is the one that made me so interested in your list. I keep hearing from everyone that they're never going to see play outside standard and commander. But seeing your deck and reading through the description made me really begin to question that. I am rather eager to test them out for myself, I'll just have to do a bunch of tinkering around to see which ones should stay shocks and which should become tangos.

Thanks again for the suggestions, they're greatly appreciated.
