Hey, I like the take on the gruul monster deck post rotation. Including eidolon is interesting, and it should help you combat faster decks long enough to get threats online. One good card from the M15 set you might consider is Genesis Hydra, which functions as a monster and a card draw engine. Nessian Game Warden also fits this bill, but requires a lot of forests to be good.

Thanks you so much for the up vote and realizing this decks ability. What would you consider taking out for genesis hydra? Xenagos God maybe?

Nice I like it. I still like Nissa better than Xenagos, because she's a real game winning threat all on her lonesome. She's exactly the kind of planeswalker this deck wants, because when she drops she either is dealt with or you win the game.

I think your sideboard needs work as well. I don't know if I"d include tormond's crypt. The current meta sees little grave interaction outside of whip of erebos, and after rotation we don't even know if mono black devotion is still a deck. So if this is for post rotation, I'd put 1x xenagos in the side instead and mainboard two nissa, worldwaker.

Also, you might look at Flame Wreathed Phoenix as a nice fatty flier for this deck. Similar to the stormbreath dragon, but a tick lower in the curve.

I already have a ton of four drops, so I'll pass in the Phoenix but I like the sidboard idea.

I have been thinking of doing the same thing this week so +1 :)

Hate to say it but Genesis Hydra has a cost of 2 (the x does not count)

Not to fear! we can use this to our favour with Delve cards like Murderous Cut , play it for 1 mana and it was a still has a 'converted mana cost' of 5 :)

Happy brewing!

I am abusing that technicality in the form of Stoke the Flames . This card works well when I tap a Eidolon to play it as I usually do not attack with him anyway.

You could add in 1 or 2 Darksteel Citadel to go with Nissa, Worldwaker

What about Chord of Calling or See the Unwritten as well? Loving the deck. Beast mode.

I tried See the Unwritten and I never was able to get two creatures and ended up dumping my planeswalkers into the grave. Genesis Hydra was always better as it could get walkers. I have not tried Chord of Calling . I will try some tests

Also the deck is very color reliant as I need two red sources on three and a forest on turn one, so I think i'll pass on the Darksteel Citadel .

What I have noticed in abzan matchups is that you never, EVER, try to beat them quickly. As long as you follow that rule your deck should be able to handle abzan. If I were you in that game I would side in Terra Stomper and Arbor Colossus and maybe even Hunt the Hunter for those pesky Siege Rhino s. Looks really good though and good luck!

Looks like fun, although what about games where you get the eidolon capability but no ramp? Do you mulligan then? Also all the ramp you draw later is dead hand space. Finding a draw engine or a card that let's you discard for effects might help, cant think of any off the top of my head, but they are out there. Food for thoughts is all. +1

just a warning, Genesis Hydra will still burn you from Eidolon of the Great Revel do to the fact that x is an additional cost

"Casting a spell for an alternative cost, such as a bestow cost, doesnt change its converted mana cost. Similarly, casting a spell with an additional cost, such as a spell with a strive ability, doesnt change its converted mana cost. For example, casting Gnarled Scarhide (a card with mana cost B and bestow cost 3B) for its bestow cost will cause Eidolon of the Great Revels ability to trigger."

x still counts as x. so if x is 2 he's fine. they're talking about bestow, morph, etc.
