@N7soldier fixed the description. I would like Kiora, but I can't think of what to cut. Suggestions?

You have plenty of ramp. The Axebane Guardian just seems like overkill here. Between Kiora, the mystics and the caryatids you should be producing plenty of mana to play whatever you want. Not to mention you have the courser to even out land drops and let you know if it is even worth negative 1 with kiora. In the slot of the axbane i would run Arbor Colossus and or Nessian Wilds Ravager and Polukranos, World Eater honestly any of the strong hydras will fit that spot as well. Maybe go with 2 and 2 of the ravager and the colossus. Being that you have 3 primordials i would rather have two stompies and two nice sized with reach that you can drop on turn three with the right draw. All in all looks pretty good.

What do you think of: -4 Axebane Guardian , -2 Forest , -1 Island , +1 Courser of Kruphix , +3 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx , +3 Arbor Colossus ?

I don't like Sylvan Primordial in standard 7 mana is a lot, I know you have ramp but even so his ability isn't that special against one player. I'd put in another Mimic so you're more likely to draw him. If you put in Elite Arcanist and Illusionist's Bracers you could do a nice combo with Kiora's Follower .

This deck looks awesome! +1 for sure!

I know this deck has crazy amounts of ramp already, but would Gyre Sage work in this deck? I know Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and Kiora's Follower probably provide enough ramp, but it may help.

Either way this deck looks really solid!

February 10, 2014 9:30 p.m.

@reptarjesus 7 mana actually isn't that much. It's pretty easy to get in this deck. And when you consider how many things he can blow up in standard (Detention Sphere , Underworld Connections , Elspeth, Sun's Champion and other planeswalkers, Spear of Heliod ) his ability is very special and very relevant. That, and he has a huge butt and can block Desecration Demon s all day. People will often forget he has reach and I can just block their Nightveil Specter . I was also considering another mimic for a while but I often would rather a different threat. And while the Elite Arcanist combo is interesting, It's too inconsistent for this deck. Thanks for the advice though don't forget to +1!

@tclaw12 I don't think your +1 went through. Could you try again?

Gyre Sage is just too slow. It doesn't automatically produce mana and just requires too much extra to work. To evolve I would have to cast a bomb, but that means I have enough to cast my bombs and don't need more mana. Thanks for the advice though. And I'm glad you like it!

You only got 3 packs! Man, i'd go back there and demand some goodies for coming first. Was there only 3 other dudes!

March 1, 2014 8:55 p.m.

There was 5 other dudes lol. My shop only started doing Game Day with Theros so they still need people to find out about it.

for real though who said Simic wasn't good? Kiora, the Crashing Wave is amazing. My deck Kiora's Tsunami is largely Simic and it has made me have a new found appreciation for it. Prophet of Kruphix is finally catching on and Courser of Kruphix is just stupid good in standard. Real money card. So many good combos.

Thanks for the comment and the +1! I checked out your deck and the description makes my head hurt. Sooooo much lifegain. I totally agree about Kiora being awesome. I was able to pick up a foil Courser of Kruphix when he was about 4 bucks nonfoil. I also picked up the rest of my playset around that time. Definitely paid off, considering it's being used in modern and being considered for legacy play.

As far as I know (I only started in December, though), it's not the Simic colors that suck, but the Simic guild. Because creature-heavy, Supreme Verdict , blahblahblah.

March 2, 2014 9:58 p.m.

Yep, that sums it up. Supreme Verdict blahblahblah.

Hats off to you Mr. Potato ( sorry couldn't resist).

I have been playing simic since INN and RTR and I ABSOLUTELY love this deck. I actually stopped playing standard because I thought a viable simic deck couldn't be built and I pretty much threw a little kid temper tantrum (I'm 27 fyi) and quit standard. Seeing your deck makes me reconsider standard.

I think what held me back was being wholly focused on the +1/+1 counter thing. I like that you branched out. So again I applaud you. I really can't think of any changes that I would make. It seems very solid. +1

March 6, 2014 2:22 a.m.

@Bellock86 Glad you like!

@eddiekesler um... well you see... um... I'm still in the process of deciding that. My side is kind of janky right now. I don't really know yet. I'm currently testing it out. I would love some help with it.

hey dude, love your deck, I've been building something similar, and I've been thinking... how do YOU dodge Supreme Verdict ? It's the only real flaw I've found by now, as some guys mentioned early...Do you think Kiora, the Crashing Wave 's emblem might be a good way to ensure you don't get totally screwed? I've been running 2, so I can ultimate one of them and combo the other with Courser of Kruphix , but I dunno if it's effective as it seems...

March 6, 2014 9:04 p.m.

I don't dodge Supreme Verdict . I just can't. The control match up is REALLY bad. I just hope to hit land drops and once I figure out they're playing control just drop a must deal with threat like Mistcutter Hydra to force a Verdict on it's own without overextending. Kiora is very good against control, popping an ultimate is pretty good. A kind of neat trick is if the D-Sphere a Polukranos or something you can end step Cyclonic Rift it and get in for 5.

March 6, 2014 9:08 p.m.

GabsLaguardia says... #21

Yeah, my meta is really control-heavy, and all I do is holding onto my bigger creatures, praying to hit land drops and forcing them to Supreme Verdict early. Kiora was my savior in almost every game. I always ended with like two kraken tokens and that was it! haha, but at least it was enough to GG.

Bellock86 says... #22

I really love how you've integrated Kiora, the Crashing Wave into the deck. Utilizing her abilities like you do really optimizes her function. Bye bye Boros Reckoner damage. Sorry Desecration Demon . Oh btw say hello to my army of krakens. Lol. Brilliant.

So I must ask. Have you had a mirror match (or just matched against something similar) and if so how did it go?

March 6, 2014 10:04 p.m.

@GabsLaguardia Kiora is pretty good against control. Your playing the control match up pretty much perfecty. Hit land drops, force early Verdict, play threats, hope they don't draw another Verdict.

@Bellock86 I once played a mirror match (kind of). Their version was bant though. The mirror match could really go either way. Whoever draws more threats wins basically.

Any room for Simic Charm ? Giving your planeswalkers and creatures hexproof seems pretty good in a field of targeted removal (including Detention Sphere )

March 8, 2014 12:58 p.m.

I have considered Simic Charm , but it overall wasn't powerful enough. +3/+3 isn't relevant with big creatures, the I would rather just have Cyclonic Rift for the bounce, and Hexproof isn't that great in a lot of match-ups. I did have it sideboarded for a while but Negate was just better.
