Rixals has offered some unique elder dragons and non-creature spells I found worthy of testing out. Here is my take:

  • Arch of Orazca: Drawing a card in Naya can be tedious at times. Wizards printing it on a land is even rarier. I'm glad they did with this set, but I'm not really a fan of playing 5 to do so. It will be a maybe card for now.

  • Blazing Hope: This card is too situational to be useful in a game at which you start at 40. Nice try wizards, but you can do better...

  • Ghalta, Primal Hunger: This Elder Dinosaurs is a beast!!!!! Nonetheless, at 12 mana it makes it more of a maybeboard card for me who strive towards an aggro/mid-range game plan.

  • Path of Mettle  Flip: Another disappointing Boros card. I think the last time I saw a great boros was probably Boros Charmfoil. Oh well, maybe Dominaria will restore my hope that wizards hates boros.

  • Tendershoot Dryad: I do have a place in my heart for creatures that create creature tokens. The EACH upkeep trigger is simply juicy! The negative is a 2/2 for 5 is eh. Overall, I don't see it fitting in the 99.

  • The Immortal Sun: lines 2 through 4 is great! Line 1 is a little painful. The Immortal Sun is great for the card draw and cost reduction. This can be a good replacement for Elspeth, Sun's Champion or Austere Command. The anthem is simply gravy. Currently, I find The Immortal Sun to be more of a sideboard card against control and slower games.

  • Tilonalli's Summoner: Definitely, a win-more card, which is why I'm hesitant to include it in the 99. Another maybeboard card.

  • Trapjaw Tyrant: A 5/5 that exiles creatures when dealt damage and survives. I want this dino to be good, but don't have a consistent way to abuse its triggered ability. To the maybeboard.

  • Wayward Swordtooth: More ramp and the same P/T as Rhonas the Indomitable. The only problem is Oracle of Mul Daya and Lotus Cobra are just simply better. Additionally, my 3-drop slot is rather full and isn't worth putting in that slot to possibly play more lands. Also, Azusa, Lost but Seeking was spoiled in the Masters 25 spoilers, which is definitely more worthy of a slot in the 99.

  • Zacama, Primal Calamity: The main reason for running this card would be the ETB trigger and the fact that it has reach. Nine mana is a lot to get to consistently and should be more of a sideboard card.

  • Zetalpa, Primal Dawn: Zetalpa is a battlecruiser, keyword soup card and has a place in a deck like Mayael the Anima. Samut, Voice of Dissent says 'no'.

How about the Etali, Primal Storm?
