Probably, but I don't have either of those, and they are prone to removal, while almost nobody has enchantment removal.

The Rapid Hybridization s seem a bit out of place. The fact that it still gives them 3/3 monsters with which to bother your planeswalkers seems pretty genuinely annoying. I honestly think it might be wiser to sacrifice those for something a bit more control-oriented like Negate or Cancel . With so many tap-centric creatures like Ral Zarek and Tamiyo, the Moon Sage , I'd be more interested in just shutting down any attempts to shut down your chumpblock spells like Muster the legion! and such instead of trying to stop heavy hitters, since you have Turn / Burn , Azorius Charm and Cyclonic Rift to cause trouble until your AEtherling s get rolling with your Planeswalkers, it seems like a kind of sideways hop to have them still have monsters that can attack with it.

I see your point, but it's nice to be able to chum block with Augur, Rapid him, and have a blocker for the next turn too.

What are your plans for post rotation?

I want to use blue no matter what, and will probably cut down to two colors. What that other color will be, I don't know yet. Waiting to see some of the synergy that people come up with.
Most likely U/W or U/B though.

Why? also, only 2 Read the Bones , what else do you have for draw?

I'd up the Jace, Architect of Thought to x2. Memory Adept doesn't really fit in this deck so much as you have no other mill to support. Also, card draw and slow down aggro. Thassa is great in this deck with the constant Scry 1 before you draw. I'd go down to 3x Anger of the Gods, and try to squeeze in a Rakdos Returns. I'm tempted to go Notion Thief with all the card draw running around. I see why you went 2x Read the Bones. No life-gain for Grix. Sad trombone.

@Droxium Because I have no form of life gain, and would like to limit the amount I take to myself. Thassa and Magma Jet serve as Psudo-card draw.

I dig this deck, as well as it's name. Haha. This is just my opinion, but I've never liked Syncopate . If I were you, I'd replace it with a hard counter instead. I feel like they're far more reliable, even though they aren't effective when you don't have 3 mana to spare early on. If it works for you, go for it. Do what feels right. You might want to consider adding in Prognostic Sphinx . That card was so effective for me during pre-release. It could work pretty well in any deck. If you don't mind losing a card, you can make it pretty much invincible.Nice deck +1.

The nice thing about Syncopate is that it exiles. In some cases that is still relevant, even if we don't have to worry about Lingering Souls .

Yeah. I always forget about the exile aspect of the card. Idk, I guess it's just a personal preference. I've always loved different variants of hard counters.

What about Lightning Strike vs Magma Jet ? I feel as though we will see a LOT OF x/3+ creatures with G/W or mono green being a thing and the extra point will do you a lot of good. Same mana cost even.
You might be able to switch out a couple of basics for Temple of Deceit for extra scry/mana fixing.
I also like Frostburn Weird as an early anti-aggro card and builds devotion to Thassa, God of the Sea as well.
+1!

Considering the low amount of draw I have, I'd prefer the Scry on Magma Jet

really nice grixis deck, but one question. Why do you mainboard izzet staticaster? Is tokens common to your FnM or something?
October 2, 2013 5:26 p.m.
The Doctor says... #18
Not just tokens, but a lot of 2/1 creatures, and 2/2 creatures. It works really well when I have Ral Zarek out, because then I can deal 2 damage instead of one.
