Wildfire control or "eminent domain". Tempo with the opponent a bit, remove some critters, take some land and then boom!

I had some reminents of an old delver deck and thought I'd put them to good use. Without the land the deck is incredibly cheap for a control deck.

The deck's based on articles here:

I have some concern over the speed of the enchantments, thought I'd lay out some pro's and cons vs alternatives

Dream Leash

pros

  • Can be used to target a big critter and hence be a win condition.
  • Fairly decent wincon after wildfire if you can get to 5 mana - could lock down the game, but does require them to tap the permanent.

Cons

  • I'd rather play a win con on 5 mana and have the land next turn for wild fire, however you're not always going to have that mana, hence whatever replaces it should be able to ramp/find land.
  • Is it likely a big enough critter will be played before you wildfire? Also if you use it on a creature, you may not have the backup land for the wildfire the next turn (at least not with my current land count).
  • Likely too slow vs fast aggro even if you steal a creature - the creature will have already hit you at least once and you get him tapped so can't block the next turn.

Solemn Simulacrum

pros

  • Instant ramp
  • Very welcome card draw
  • a chump block
  • Even vs combo/control, dies to wildfire so still likely to get the card draw.
  • Can get in damage when there's no creatures.

cons

  • not great post wildfire
  • Worse than annex vs control/combo - doesn't affect opponents lands.

Annex

pros

  • The only one of these options that can be played turn 3/4 vs twin or turn 3 vs tron on the play - otherwise you have to hold up remands.
  • good post wildfire for keeping their land low and ramping back up.

cons

  • Pretty bad vs fast aggro - have to have board cleared/countered some stuff the turn before.

It seems like annex and solemn simulacrum pose as opposites here, solemn being good vs aggro, annex vs combo and control. Solemn helping survival, draw and ramp pre wildfire, and annex locking the game down post. Dream leash has some versatility and can make some game winning plays but may be a little too slow vs a variety of decks. A lot of the deck's strategy also reduces the impact of those plays - you're unlikely to steal a big creature with this as we're working to blow up the opponents lands. Also being stuck with a load of land stealing effects in hand seems really bad.

-- 3 dream leash

++ 3 solemn simulacrum
