Commander / EDH Sacrifice Tokens UB (Dimir) Zombie

Maybeboard

This started as the Undead Unleashed preconstructed Commander deck from Innistrad Midnight Hunt but has evolved to this monstrosity.

I have had many ups and downs in trying to get this deck tuned to be able to use Zombies as the fuel for other things like board wipes and creating even more zombies, but now it's pretty great! Lots of nasty combos in here, but I left out the cards that make it go infinite (they're in my sideboard) because in casual pods going infinite hasn't been fun. That being said they can be added back in to severely increase the competitiveness of the deck. Note: the maybeboard is just a place I put a bunch of cards that synergize with the deck and aren't necessarily up for consideration anymore, though some may get swapped in or out depending on how my local meta changes.

Combos

(listed for reference)

  1. Mana Doubling Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth/Cabal Coffers/Crypt Ghast are great for tons of mana, it really helps when there are so many things drawing you cards like Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver, Phyrexian Arena, Rhystic Study, Sign in Blood, and Village Rites because you have the mana to use it all.

  2. Board Wiping (incl. clearing indestructible creatures) Noxious Ghoul + Cleaver Skaab + Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver is just a nasty combo of granting non-zombie creatures -1/-1 for each zombie that enters the battlefield including Noxious Ghoul. -1/-1 gets past indestructible FYI. First Noxious Ghoul that enters play makes all non-zombies -1/-1. Cleaver Skaab sacrifices it and brings in two copies, which see each other come into play granting another -4/-4 for -5/-5 for the turn. Or it would be, but Wilhelt sees the first Noxious Ghoul die and puts a decayed zombie token out after Cleaver resolves so now there's another -2/-2 for -7/-7. Next turn activate Cleaver targeting a Noxious Ghoul again for what will be after Wilhelt a -9/-9 to all non-zombie creatures. Following turn is -12/-12, etc., etc.. Of course, the more zombies you play and the more that die and come back due to Wilhelt, the better. And Army of the Damned just grants -13/-13 for each Noxious Ghoul in play.

  3. Creature Destruction In addition to the Noxious Ghoul wipes from combo 2 above, this involves having Grave Pact and/or Dictate of Erebos out while you are sacking zombies to Wilhelt to draw, or even when you attack with decayed zombies that are perhaps buffed by any of the anthem zombies in the deck like Undead Warchief, Lord of the Undead, Lord of the Accursed, Diregraf Captain, and Death Baron. When combat is over those decayed zombies get sacked and then everyone sacrifices a number of creatures equal to the number of decayed you lost. Don't block and take damage, or block, but either way everyone's creatures are going away lol. Cultist of the Absolute and Cleaver Skaab make you sac too but we're creating enough zombies here that all this sacrificing we're doing won't affect us overall.

  4. Infinite Combos Once you get Poppet Stitcher   flipped into Poppet Factory, all decayed zombie tokens lose decayed and all of our tokens are just generic 3/3 zombies. Not having decayed means when they die (in combat or if we sacrifice them) we get decayed zombies from Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver which then immediately lose decayed. All we need is a free, repeatable sacrifice outlet to profit from this loop. With Altar of Dementia we can mill everyone out. Alternatively we can use Carrion Feeder and Diregraf Captain to drain everyone's life. And of course if Grave Pact or Dictate of Erebos are out then in the process of going infinite on these, all opponent's creatures get sacrificed too.

  5. Rooftop Storm Shenanigans With Rooftop Storm things get kind of nutty too. Playing Acererak the Archlich with Rooftop out means we can loop him infinitely by picking the Lost Mine of Phandelver to send him through (instead of the Tomb of Horrors) to get infinite life drain. We can also cast Gravecrawler and sacrifice him to Altar of Dementia or Carrion Feeder to make infinite decayed zombie tokens via Wilhelt (of course making Carrion Feeder have infinite power and toughness in the process).

  6. Copycat! This isn't a combo per se but it can lead to some I'm sure. But between Necroduality, Reflections of Littjara, and Cleaver Skaab, you have the ability to get out multiple copies of the nastier zombies in this deck. Imagine 2, 3, 4, or more copies of anything in the list above that's not legendary. Disgusting lol.

  7. Life Loss Another non-combo but there is a life loss subtheme in here between The Scarab God, Gray Merchant of Asphodel, and Loyal Subordinate. The latter two can be copied by the stuff in number 7 above to cause lots of life loss, and the Scarab God just drains so much when there's a bunch of zombies out. Make sure to get out Tainted Remedy though so none of those life gain decks are escaping the drain!

  8. RECURSION! Just another capability this deck has. I have recurred my board multiple times after several board wipes through cards like Victimize, Reanimate, or Unholy Grotto getting back Havengul Lich which then gets back everything else (and for 1 mana each if Rooftop Storm is out!).

  9. PIVOT! Just when you think you might be stuck vs a mill deck or elves or something else you might struggle to beat, just try to get out Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver with Cultist of the Absolute, and an anthem zombie or two (preferably Undead Warchief lol) and then Wilhelt becomes an 8/7 or bigger that flies and has deathtouch, so attacking 3 times removes a player with commander damage! This can be done a lot easier with Filth in the graveyard and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth in play too as then they can't block him.

If I had a Phyrexian Altar, we could add that or substitute it in place of Altar of Dementia in the combos above for infinite mana.

And here's some stuff that can pair well with some of the ideas above but I ultimately cut to focus on zombies:

Syr Konrad, the Grim + Mindcrank + Tortured Existence + Empty the Catacombs + Altar of the Brood + Pestilence: Mill + damage + mill + damage + mill + damage......
