snowmaster55555atgmaildotcom - Yeah, probably want it as I step up the cost of the deck but for now I'll probably leave it because price.

Sylvan Safekeeper also closes games. Death Cloud is my favorite because it dumps hands too.

BRINST4R - I didn't even know about Sylvan Safekeeper, and i forgot about deathcloud. Thanks so much!

Mandalorian - Yeah, like Scapeshift, price but in the long run yes it needs a spot.

maybe Killing Wave in place of Black Sun's Zenith. You could also run From Beyond for creatures to sac and it can tutor All Is Dust and Smothering Abomination or It That Betrays or anything with annihilator.
October 20, 2016 7:10 p.m.
Squirrel_of_War - I originally had Killing Wave in here and then replaced it with Death Cloud, but I think you may be correct to replace the Zenith with Killing Wave. I already run From Beyond, but I think It That Betrays is really strong. I will probably replace Artisan of Kozilek for it. I have noticed that card draw can be an issue for this deck so I like the idea of running Smothering Abomination. I'm not sure what I cut for it yet, but I like it. As for All Is Dust, it is a good boardwipe, but it doesn't allow me to keep around my stuff to capitalize on the sacrificing. But maybe it's better than Life's Finale? What did you have in mind that it could replace?

Yavimaya Elder, synergy
Ashnod's Altar, you need this.
Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet makes zombies, is anti graveyard, and is cooler than Master of the Wild Hunt.
Smokestack. Nuff said.
Woodfall Primus goes infinite with your commander and a sac outlet just like clique.
Spore Frog is awesome and probably one of the most hated creatures in my play group.
Living Death is what I would put in place of Life's Finale. It makes them sac and you'll profit from all the stuff you sac'd coming back.
Contamination goes perfect in here.
I would remove Varolz, I don't think you get his full value in this build.
I would remove Endrik Sar because you pay to cast him then you don't get any value unless you cast something else and whenever I play him he gets killed before next turn.
I know it's not the same general but there are some similarities with my Meren deck. Check it out when you have a sec.

Squirrel_of_War - All good options, but I am trying to keep it a little more casual since most of the people I play with are fairly casual when it comes to EDH. So I will probably try to go a little less on the infinite side. On that note, Yavimaya Elder is better than Wood Elves, so he'll find a spot there. Ashnod's Altar is good too. Not sure where to put it but I can find a way. Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet is amazing, but his price is a little frustrating. But yeah, he can replace Master of the Wild Hunt so it's not the worst thing. Smokestack is obviously great, but also a huge hate-magnet. Not sure if I want to run that among the people I play with most of the time or not because it can get really annoying. Woodfall Primus will probably stay out because I don't really want to go infinite very often (as I mentioned above). Can you elaborate a little more about Spore Frog? I'm not sure why it's so hated among your group. Living Death is actually great. I forgot about that card. Finally, Contamination seems more cruel than I want to make this deck as well. I don't really want to lock people out of the game because that always feels bad. Thanks for all the recommendations, these are great. Finally, I have noticed that I feel like I don't have enough things to sacrifice when I play this deck. Do you think that that's an accurate statement based on the list, or do you think the list is okay and I have just run into some mediocre draws? Thanks.

I can agree that Smokestack and Contamination draw hate, they are brutal. As far as having enough to sac, I think you are good, it must be your draws but also keep in mind with as much sacrificing as you are causing to yourself and the rest of the group you need to have more board presence to stay ahead. Your token generators are going to be good for this also Ophiomancer and Reassembling Skeleton can help with this too. As for Woodfall Primus he only destroys all noncreature permanents so it's not too crazy of a combo... and besides it is a three card combo so if your opponents don't see it coming that's their bad. Puppeteer Clique steals all your friends dudes when it goes infinite so neither combo is an insta win.
Spore Frog in this deck is just a Fog that will get you a +1/+1 counter. With some sort of recursion it is super annoying because any time they try to exile it I just sac in response then being it back at the end of the turn with Meren so that's why he's hated.
Another card I would take out is Hell's Caretaker. He is very fragile and he has to stock around a turn before he does anything and he only does it during upkeep. I used him in several decks and he never worked how I wanted him to. :/

Squirrel_of_War - My issue with Woodfall Primus is blowing up everyone's lands. As for Reassembling Skeleton, I think I may toy around with putting him in the deck. I think you also may be correct about Hell's Caretaker. He is a little difficult to get running properly, and he's stupidly easy to kill. As for Spore Frog, I think it is much better in Meren than in Mazirek. I can see why he'd be a pain in Meren. Thanks for the advice, you've been wonderfully helpful.

I thought of something else. I would remove Golgari Guildgate and Jungle Hollow and put in Verdant Catacombs and Twilight Mire if you can. If not, just replace guildgate with Foul Orchard because the art is better. :) I'd also replace a basic with Reflecting Pool. You have a good mana base so i feel like you probably end up not benefiting too much from Chromatic Lantern since your deck is only 2 colors and I'm sure you rarely lack a color you need. I think you could replace it with Primal Growth, Explosive Vegetation, or if you want to keep a mana rock, my favorite Unstable Obelisk ramp if you need it, removal when you don't.

Ooh, you have 37 cards that would benefit from Jet Medallion including your general so that's also a viable replacement for Chromatic Lantern.
October 24, 2016 10:52 p.m.
Squirrel_of_War - I definitely don't want to sink the money into Verdant Catacombs right now, or even really Twilight Mire but I will probably pick up Hissing Quagmire and the new Kaladesh fast land instead. Haven't updated the mana base in a while. Also, Jet Medallion is probably a better choice over the lantern. Good call.

Blooming Marsh. Good call, I use it I'm my golgari decks but seemed to overlook it here. I got lucky with Verdant Catacombs and picked up a playset for $90 a few years ago. I also got 2 Twilight Mires through trading at about $12 value each. I noticed you have 6 legendary creatures in your deck, you could replace a Swamp with Shizo, Death's Storehouse to add some versatility.
October 25, 2016 12:47 a.m.
Squirrel_of_War - $90 for a playset is a steal and $12 per Twilight Mire is great too. I may put in a Shizo, Death's Storehouse, definitely a good land that I constantly forget about. If nothing else, it can allow my giant Mazirek to crash in for some nuts commander damage. I am also considering Primal Growth because it's sort of ridiculous if you sacrifice Yavimaya Elder, and is another sacrifice outlet anyway.
October 25, 2016 10:44 a.m.
This is very similar to my SkullBriar deck. We all need to make sacrifices
I would suggest you look over it for inspiration. I like what you have here it just seems like there are some more effective variations you might want to consider.
One of my personal favorite combos is Savra, Queen of the Golgari + Shambling Shell. Using the dredge you can sac the shell every turn (more if you're using the Smothering Abomination), life neutral and force all other players to sac a creature as well.
October 27, 2016 9:49 a.m.
Alixen - I actually used to have Savra in this list, however I always found her to be underwhelming. Sacrificing a creature that was only green was next to useless with her. Also she is very easy to remove, so I never really got to abuse her. That said, Shambling Shell itself may be something worth considering. I do worry a little bit about the Dredge ability because there is a fair amount of graveyard hate and I can lose a lot of resources. On top of that, it prevents me from drawing other cards off of my deck that could potentially be more useful, but nonetheless he is definitely worth looking into. Thanks for the input, and I will head over to your deck to take a look.

Have you thought about more lands that sacrifice? Like Jund Panorama, Crystal Vein, Foundry of the Consuls, Spawning Bed, and of course any black/green fetch land you can afford/trade for.
