This deck has some pretty really greedy card choices. My thinking is this: I don't want to play the kiki combo because I find it uninteresting to play. This frees up a lot of spots for much better combat-based creatures. The goal is to drop cheap non-humans to trigger winota and small stax pieces to set up for ending the game with combat damage. This is very doable with cards like lena, blade historian, and rick. I'm not saying this is the best Winota list but I am saying it's a lot of fun and it does win games.
