Time to Start the Snowball

  • Up until this point in EDH/cEDH Boros has lacked two of the most important factors of EDH, card advantage and mana advantage.
  • Winota is the solution to this issue. By converting attacking creatures into more creatures on the battlefield we are gaining card advantage by accessing creatures that were not in our hand and mana advantage by being able to put those creatures onto the field without playing there mana costs.
  • This ability is quite strong and the reason that this card makes Boros a viable cEDH option.
  • Due to the explosive nature of the deck, not only does it lay down a significant amount of stax down to slow opponents asymetrically but we pressure the win usually 1-2 turns after our commander has resolved.

The No cast Clause :D

Because the way Winota works a few cards become immediately broken

  • Grand Abolisher can hit the field off a trigger and your opponents can not interact with you at all
  • Magus of the Moon and Harsh Mentor enters the battlefield and your opponents have no time in priority to float mana prior to.
  • Sanctum Prelate - because of the wording on this card you name a number "as it enters the battlefield" and your opponents never have priority. Meaning that if you name the correct # you can lock cards in their hands. (did confirm this with multiple judges :) )
  • Drannith Magistrate immediately locks opponents out of non-hand cast spells.
  • Thalia, Guardian of Thraben & Glowrider immediately apply a tax.
  • Ethersworn Canonist - immediately limits the spells per turn

Note: Errata's

Some cards have since been classified as human on MTG gatherer over time but not on all printings and are as follows

Our primary gameplan is to get to a Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker based combo or to utilize the backup plan of Splinter Twin

Winota, Joiner of Forces helps us out finding the two halves of our primary combo first by human based tutor creatures that can grab Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker.

The other half of the combo is one of three human creatures that our commander can hit directly

Kiki-Jiki Combos

  • Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Zealous Conscripts = activate Kiki targeting conscripts to make a copy. Target kiki with the conscripts untap ability. Repeat. Makes infinite copies of conscripts to swing for lethal.

  • Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Village bellringer - same as above except bellringer untaps all creatures and doesn't have to target.

  • Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Combat Celebrant - activate Kiki Pre-Combat on your turn targeting celebrant. Attack with the haste token. Use the triggered ability of celebrant exerting it which will untap kiki and make another combat. Repeat.

Note: If you enchant village bellringer or Zealous Conscripts or Combat Celebrant with Splinter Twin they act the same as the Kiki-Jiki Combos detailed above.
