Maybeboard

Despite the name, I've actually found that playing this deck carefully works better than turning everything sideways and hoping for the best. My favorite thing about this deck is its fairly even split between burn spells and creatures. I can sometimes trick people into boarding against Burn, then use my fairly efficient creatures to win out. My second favorite thing is only 3 of my burn spells (Searing Blaze) specify a target type - all the rest can target either creatures or players, giving me a fairly versatile game plan that can shift from 'Bolt yo' face' to 'Bolt yo' dude'. My third favorite thing is running creatures that feature in older versions of Red decks, such as Figure of Destiny and Keldon Marauders . Sometimes these twists confuse people and make them misplay or focus on the wrong threat. Overall, I am pleased with how this deck matches up against other aggro decks. That said, I've yet to put it to the test against a true control deck.

Chalice of the Void just wrecks me. Absolutely wrecks me. Luckily, most people aren't playing it during game 1, so I just need to identify the decks likely to use it and preemptively board in Smash to Smithereens. I don't like how tenuous that plan is, especially if I lose game 1. Should I consider upping my curve slightly to reduce the effectiveness of Chalice, and if I do, does this make my game worse against everyone else? I will think on these things. Secondly, I have never used Leyline of Punishment, and should perhaps consider other sideboard options. Third and finally, Fates Reforged features new addition to Shockdom, Wild Slash. I have exactly 4 creatures that could potentially be 4 power if they live long enough and I choose to invest mana in them, but on the other hand, it seems more likely for me to turn on that secondary effect than the one on Burst Lightning, but on the other hand, when would that be useful? I do have a tough time with Master of the Waves, but they just Vapor Snag Figure of Destiny before Wild Slash comes down. For a brief time I was running Galvanic Blast in place of Burst Lightning, but I could never turn on the secondary effect of Blast. I've never used Burst Lightning's secondary either, but 5 mana is more likely than 3 artifacts. Urgh.
