Question... Does Battlefield mage make it where Glimpse the sun god one mana only since it makes it one less for each creature it targets? or am I just getting mixed up? white + 1 (the creatures you want to tap) - 1 (from Battlefield Thumaturge) = only one plains? Is that how it works?

I suggest Brave the Elements over Thassa, God of the Sea it basically causes team pseudo-unblockable and can protect most of your creatures. You don't gain much from Thassa in an aggro deck unless you can get the 5 devo really quick.

JOU is Journey into Nyx :)

I agree with you on the Thassa point, thanks!

I made this because I'm excited for all the synergy with Battlefield Thaumaturge . He makes all targeting spells a lot easier to cast! I was tempted to make this a USA aggro kind of deck, but I decided to stick with UW.

Me to! I was making a French (hue hue American is cliche) deck to use Battlefield Thaumaturge with Aurelia's Fury but, 3 colors, even with Mana Confluence , is hard to play standard aggro, even more heroic, because it needs to protects it's creatures every time.

Anyway, playtested some similar decks and found that the greatest buddy of Battlefield Thaumaturge was Favored Hoplite . Happened so many times of dropping Hoplite T1, Thaumaturge T2 and 2 heroic triggers T3. Even double Launch the Fleet for 4 soldiers! And an multiple target spell protects the duo, Hoplite, because don't take dmg and Thaumartuge because of hexproof.

Favored Hoplite would be an great addition...

If you don't think 2 T1 drops fit the deck, I think Soldier of the Pantheon is great. He grants lifegain and has protection from a lot of spells (and some creature evasion), but, the Detention Sphere s are all going to target the star of the deck, Battlefield Thaumaturge . Knowing this, damage protecion is better than conditional evasion and spell protection.

If you can fit the two, great! Just saying this in case of you consider replacing.

And, a good article I read: http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/rc/295

Really glad to help! :)

Eduardogbg I could definitely see Favored Hoplite going in, I made this deck with haste so I didn't think of him. Thanks for the help!

Id drop Spirit for Frontline Medic to protect your guys. Also Id run 2 Spear of Heliod and a third Brave the Elements over Gridlock .

Renounce the Guilds wouldn't be to bad in the SB.

This deck is awesome +1 from me! I have a similar deck that uses battlefield thaumaturge in my UW Heroic deck.

I guess I will put together a sideboard to add some variety! Renounce the Guilds would work well there, Spear of Heliod is honestly just too slow and if that is what I play turn 3 I will probably be behind. The same goes with Frontline Medic he is good but if I swap him for Spirit of the Labyrinth I will really slow down my curve and I might get swamped with a hand of heavy costing cards.

I like Gridlock because, while unlikely, it can also help me to trigger heroic, I would run brave in the sideboard though.

3 BTE in MB and SB?

April 21, 2014 12:38 a.m.

beakedbard says... #19

You have 6x BTE total maybe add a few Ajani's Presence to deal with Supreme Verdict . With Soldier of the Pantheon in your main as well i don't think you need 4x Renounce the Guilds in your side 2-3x Detention Sphere could help a bit getting rid of annoying things and also getting rid of all the boars in one fell swoop.

THbruuu says... #20

My bad guys! I didn't even notice that, thanks.

beakedbard, Detention Sphere will be a good add although I like Renounce the Guilds because it can take care of Blood Baron of Vizkopa .

I went with Rootborn Defenses over Ajani's Presence as I hope to have a lot of creatures on the field.

I have been looking at Hour of Need over Launch the Fleet . It will cost blue mana but you get 4/4 flyers out of the deal and it's worth sacrificing your regular 1drops for it. And I also plan on running Gods Willing over Brave the Elements to keep the Battlefield Thaumaturge safe against spot removal.

Jojja, I like Hour of Need , however, I don't think it would be a smart swap for Launch the Fleet . They compliment each other very well. The problem with Hour of Need is that it is rather costly in CMC. I think it could be a great late game card, but I don't think I would like it in my opening hand. Yeah, Curse of the Swine would only make creature tokens 2/2's, but it is also very inexpensive. I can't guarantee that I would have enough mana for Hour of Need it is a tricky situation.

As far as Gods Willing I am hesitant to play it over BTE. BTE is very aggressive and has great interaction with all my other cards. I think that against spot removal, I would just try Gridlock on Battlefield Thaumaturge as he also has a great heroic ability for this deck, it is ok if he is tapped down, all of my other cards bring the offensive power. Thanks for your suggestions though, I am just not sure if they would be the right fit.

Great deck and all, but if you don't draw your thaumaturge guy, you can't win.You need some other wincons, like Silverblade Paladin .
