Great writing. But fires rarely cackle. +1

lazarusdraigon: Thanks, and thank you for the correction. Now I got the image of fire cackling with evil laughter (see Cackling Flames). I've corrected it to be right word.

Hey thanks for the advice on my Ulrich deck.

In terms of keeping flavor with value the only card I can think of that would have use to you is Hunter's Insight. It was a wolf in the picture and it draws you cards. Can never go wrong with card draw.

Question, do you want you wolves flipping as often as possible or do you want them to stay in werewolf form?

Oh snap... I was looking at sorceries. Ignore my suggestion

I like the description! I'm just leaving a +1 for now, but I'll stop by soon and leave a longer comment. I feel like he's an awkward commander for Werewolves, though, tbh. His ability rewards flipping them a lot, while most werewolves prefer to remain...woofy.

Daedalus19876: I know Ulrich isn't the best choice at the helm but he's my personal choice because, well, flavor. Besides, the sweet thing is that I don't have to depend on Ulrich like I would with the other options.

Have you considered Price of Glory so your opponent at least pays a price for casting something on your turn to prevent your werewolves transformation?

ikvar: Damn! I should've thought of that. Sweet tech. I'll definitely add it. Too bad it nonbos with Winding Canyons.

Plus one for awesome story

have you considered adding wolves and wolf support like Master of the Wild Hunt, Cult of the Waxing Moon, and Wolfcaller's Howl. Also, This deck seems silly without Descendants path and Lurking Predators

Briandhoffmann: I've been looking for more ways to produce wolf tokens. Sadly, the lack of card draw and recursion are problematic for me right now.

That said, I'll consider more ways to put out wolf tokens. One ill-timed boardwipe will put me out of the game, so I can't exactly afford to run Path or Predators. I found that I don't transform as often as I'd like, so Cult is out. I'll try to add in Wolfcaller's Howl for right now and see what I can do.

Maybe Creeping Renaissance can help with boardwipes. Can also help getting whatever you need from graveyard if already out of removal or ramp.

ikvar: I like it. Problem is, what do I take out? After the whole Were-drazi fiasco last week, I'm not removing any of the werewolves from the deck.

July 4, 2016 10 p.m.

ikvar says... #14

Uhm...I would remove Convicted Killer  Flip or Villagers of Estwald  Flip simply because the lack of a relevant ability on wolf side. Also Pyreheart Wolf seems fine as a way to sneak damage. On a side note Gratuitous Violence doesn't give your creatures double strike if is that what you want, just doubles damage so no first strike damage phase, but if you just want that double damage it's fine, even has synergy with the werewolf that deals damage on enemy's casted spells.

ikvar: As much as I hate removing werewolves, it looks like that's my only option at this point. The rest of the deck is too solid right now. The double damage from Violence has been quite good to me, even if it's a little clunky. Double strike wasn't something I wasn't looking for, otherwise I'd add Rage Reflection in a heartbeat.

In fact, which is better, Gratuitous Violence or Rage Reflection? They both fit what I want to do.

July 4, 2016 11:20 p.m.

ikvar says... #16

Simple Gratuitous Violence doubles the damage dealt by your creatures, Rage Reflection doubles combat damage dealt by your creatures but also provides first strike which saves them from deathtouch or big creatures. You can combine Rage Reflection with Bow of Nylea to make even funnier combat phases xD

Phaetion says... #17

ikvar: So you're saying Reflection is better?

July 4, 2016 11:41 p.m.

ikvar says... #18

For this deck, yes. I have an Omnath deck and I run Violence simply because the damage that Omnath deals is doubled, but in this deck that your creatures will only deal combat damage Rage is better.

ikvar: Well then, good thing I added it in preemptively. Thanks for the suggestions.

Have you considered maybe taking out seasons past for praetor's council? 2 more mana and you get everything out of your graveyard and infinite hand size for the game, seems better to me. (Don't know how to link pics in comments yet, sorry)

July 17, 2016 2 a.m.

Phaetion says... #21

Shadowgear7: The problem with Praetor's Counsel is that the curve will be out of whack. I mean, I need more recursion but at the same time I need to keep the mana curve intact. I will take the Counsel into consideration, though. I can't take out Seasons Past due to the inherent lack of recursion.

Also, to link the pics, complete the comment tutorial located on your profile page. That should do the trick.

Hey man, I love this deck and your attitude to theme over power! I tried playing with it a few times and had some middling success too! After a few games I made a couple of alterations, like adding Dolmen Gate (My new favorite card for agro decks) and Master of the Wild Hunt. I also, to my chagrin, added Taurean Mauler, who is a changeling so technically a werewolf and a wolf :) but gives even less incentive for your opponents to cast, and the same thing with Lurking Predators(Thank you other comments). Lastly I added Sylvan Library, Defense of the Heart and Descendants' Path by changing them out for the sorcery hand shuffles. Mostly because I found the opponents always cast spells so I had to be the one to play nothing to get the big dogs out, and my sorceries lay dormant all game. And also I found myself not playing Obelisk of Urd. After this I found a bit more consistency, especially when my board was smaller. But all in all just a big thank you for putting this together and theming it so well.

GreatWhiteDope: Thank you, I feel very honored for the big compliments. I'll definitely have Master of the Wild Hunt in there (I've been looking to add more wolves). Same with Descendants' Path. Sylvan Library and Obelisk of Urd are already in there, but with the latter, it was about buffing the human side because they're so weak. I'll also try out Lurking Predators too.

The rest either confuse me or I'm not a fan. Can you explain why Dolmen Gate would be good? I would've thought the point was to power up the human werewolves to overcome their weak side.

How about Selvala, Heart of the Wilds? She has a wolf, and a pretty sweet ability.
