[Working] The most toxic pioneer ever was!

Pioneer Counters Deathtouch GW (Selesnya) Infect Midrange

Elsterooo

Alright folks, we need to talk about some cards.

It's been a couple of days since the release of All Will Be One and since then, I've been nothing but brewing for this deck. When I saw card:Venerable Rotpriest, I instantly decided to get serious again with a deck to try to push it to its limits. I've been thinking about which color combinations, strategies etc. would work best and in the end, mixing it with white was my choice.. because of Show of Confidence and March of Burgeoning Life.

Before you read ahead: There is another potential deck in here. You see the Venom Connoisseur I've added, one of being enough because you can potentially fetch her with Chord of Calling. It might be possible that these two, along with Fynn, the Fangbearer and Skrelv's Hive have potential, mixing toxic weenies with deathtouch.

Disregard the manabase, this deck is about 90% finished, but I couldn't wait to post my first draft of it.

That question isn't as easy to answer as you might think at first. It's obviously a powerful card, and I immediately got about as aroused seeing this card as my wife managed to get me before we started to leave our doors open while pooping. My very first serious deck was a modern list with Fynn and Phyrexian Crusader, and since I decided to move to Pionner mostly, I thought this would open the door for Golgary Infect in this format. Especially since Bilious Skulldweller now also exists. ONE ATTACK, THREE POISON COUNTERS, bloody delicious.

There are three obvious choices brewing with Rotpriest, auras, Fynn, and lots and lots of targeted spells, ten actually. We want to give our opponent as little chance as possible to react to what we are doing since interaction is fun, but not profitable. The world is a cold place, after all. I don't need to tell you the obvious, so I'll get to the point. I think lots of instant spells we can cast on our opponents turn while being able to also keep the pressure on with Skrelv's Hive and a little bit of Fynn, the Fangbearer is what I was satisfied with most in my limited testspace. Granted, I only tested Golgari before that.

The aforementioned pressure in comination with cheap, discountable removal and support spells (the marches) put your opponent in a position of not only needing quick removal, but a variety of such as well, making it as hard as possible to deal with everything. You can fall back to a plan B of Chord of Calling into Venom Connoisseur while Fynn is and Skrell are out, or just a bunch of mites in the first place.

Your core strategy is March of Burgeoning Life your Rotpriest, another spell, Show of Confidence. You can either close out with your mites after that, or simply by doing it during your opponents' turn before casting spells with two Rotpriests out.

Well, as you can see, lands. The landbase will follow in the next day-ish as I get to finish the brewing process, I'll leave this update as it is however, even once added. Most importantly however, I feel like the usual of running out of recources it what doesn't satisfy me yet. There can be a bunch of answers to that, drawing etc., but this is mainly what I will be working to counterbalance or substitute cards for.

Until it is done, I hope you look forward to it at treat this as a prievew of sorts, I would also be glad for any suggestions since I still find there are cards I didn't even know existed, help of search engines or not.

Important: I will be working on both this version and deck:working-the-most-toxic-pioneer-ever-was-v2. The second version is a more aggressive blue green deck. I will also post an update on which version I'll end up recommending as a competitive choice.

Updates Add

I've decided on Season of Growth as a way to push the carddraw in this deck, and so far this feels much better.

Through more in depth testing the issue with this approach has really shown, mainly that the deck is barely not getting enough hits in. I've experimented with a gruul version as well, trying to use Birgi and Meria, Scholar of Antiquity, a card I already feel is way, way underestimated.

So far it's just never enough in pioneer for the Rotpriest, at least for the powerlevel I want it to be. I will add a simic version, as I feel auras that make creatures unblockable might do the trick. Updates will still be coming for this version as well.
