I don't want to speak for Argy, but -4/-4 at instant speed is better than 4 damage at sorcery speed in a format where Archangel Avacyn Flip is still flying around, and Grasp of Darkness also answers Heart of Kiran.
July 3, 2017 2:18 p.m.
True I guess I forgot about Avacyn, but with things like Abrade and all the artifact hate, is Heart of Kiran really a threat?
July 3, 2017 2:30 p.m.
Just playtested this some more Argy. Deck is brutally efficient. I love it. May just build it out. Well done. If I could +1 again I would.
July 3, 2017 5:08 p.m.
Bolderox I had Cut / Ribbons in an early build and it just didn't work as well as Grasp of Darkness.
When playing against Heart of Kiran you need to give yourself as many chances as you can to get rid of it on Turn 2. With Grasp and Fatal Push you are guaranteed to dispatch it.
You can run cards that let you destroy Artifacts but then you run the risk that they won't hit other problematic things.
As pointed out, Grasp of Darkness is very versatile. It can get rid of Indestructible Creatures, and anything with 4 Toughness or less. This includes things like Wandering Fumarole, which Cut / Ribbons can't hit.
I can see you've been out of Standard for a while if you don't know that Heart of Kiran is still a thing.
It's hard for me to say what you could use instead of Metallic Mimic and Minotaur Sureshot. They have very specific jobs and the other two cards you mentioned don't really fill those roles.
If you are going to use the two Minotaurs you suggested I would put more draw in the deck, as you will run out of cards very quickly.
Thanks for your kind words, TMBRLZ.

Argy Heart of Kiran just isn't a card I see played anymore at my lgs personally. Most people run energy decks that has a Manglehornready in the sideboard. I will not deny it is a huge threat, but I still wonder how people can decide to use it when there is a usual hate card for it ready.
and soley speaking, trying to spitball ways to replace Grasp of Darkness when it cycles out in the future.
July 5, 2017 3:23 a.m.
Bolderox this is going to come down to a local meta call.
#1 Mardu Vehicles has been consistently winning at my FNM.
NO ONE plays decks at my LGS.
I'm not planning to play this deck when it cycles out. I usually make a new deck for each new block.
July 5, 2017 3:47 a.m.
For anyone else reading this, Wizards usually makes sure there is at least one 2 drop and one 2 drop in each Standard pool, that act as removal.
Grasp of Darkness replaced Ultimate Price and Declaration in Stone replaced Valorous Stance.
Since we have a new Core set coming out very soon I will be surprised if we don't see new replacements for both of those cards.

Very aggressive
My only question is with Chandra. She seems out of place here; and I think Bolas' board wipe in Hour of Devastation may be a better fit (5CMC vs 6 and does the same thing + hitting walkers)
July 5, 2017 12:40 p.m.
AgentGreen I can manipulate Chandra, Flamecaller to do only 2 damage, and potentially save one or two of my Minotaurs.
It is not to be overlooked that she also does other things, besides board wipe. I've found that her +1 ability is very difficult for aggro decks to cope with.
If I was going to go for just a straight board wipe I'd pack Bontu's Last Reckoning.

MY KIND OF DECK! ANYTHING THAT CAN GO THIS FAST AND GET THIS BIG DESERVES PRAISE!
EVEN IF YOU FORGOT THE GREEN.

realBorborygmos woah.
That was so ...
IN YOUR FACE.
There are these things called lowercase letters that you should look into.
is not what you want in a Minotaur deck.
Or in any Standard deck.
Or in a Commander, Modern, Legacy, Vintage, Pauper, Tiny Leaders, or Frontier deck.
You can use it anywhere, apart from those decks.

Thanks for your suggestion to add an extra Bloodrage Brawler, Rhys_Fahey.
That seems to be working very well.

No problem :)
I got a neheb eternal at prerelease today and a few people at my LGS said they would look for some to trade to me, so I'm hoping to have the deck finished Friday to see how it goes against different decks at FNM
July 8, 2017 7:58 a.m.
Rhys_Fahey I was lucky enough to grab a Neheb, the Eternal, too.
No Hour of Glory, though.
My LGS is buying everyone's left over cards at the moment, and I think both of those will be quite cheap, so I'm going to try to buy them tomorrow.

Our LGS is also buying rares, but all the cards I got, they weren't looking for (Except Ammit Eternal). I got the Ammit Eternal, Imminent Doom, Djeru, With Eyes Open, Leave / Chance. Even my promo sucked, I got God-Pharaoh's Gift. I found a use for it in my EDH deck though, so I guess it's ok.
I got 2 prize packs on the day and I get my other 2 Friday. The prize packs were pretty good (I got a neheb in the first and hour of glory in the second).
July 8, 2017 7:31 p.m.
Rhys_Fahey I'm lucky in that my LGS will buy ANY card.
They don't pay a lot for some of the cards, but at least you get something for them.
July 8, 2017 11:54 p.m.
I'm probably going to pick up a playset of Neheb, the Eternal this week. Can't wait to try this out with my playgroup. Your decks are awesome. Keep up the good work!
July 10, 2017 6:46 a.m.
Neheb, the Eternal and Hour of Glory are both making a HUGE difference to this deck.
An Instant that Exiles for 4CMC, and FINALLY a Minotaur bomb, along with more efficient removal, one more aggressive early Minotaur, and the ability to draw and/or make a Creature unblockable have all made this deck quite formidable.
Thanks for your kind words, Kufu. I hope this ends up working against your playgroup.
Please report back when you have some results.

Argy Went 2-1 at FNM (Most people were drafting)
2-0 against planeswalker tribal (?)
1-2 against B/W Zombies/Curses
2-0 against B/U/G energy/Modules
The main problem against the BW deck was the curses and Authority of the Consuls. They slow the deck down way too much. Any sideboard suggestions for that?

Hmmm, I love Neheb the Eternal and think this is a great deck. However with Metallic Mimic being a decent investment, what are your thoughts on having Metallic Mimic replaced with Burning-Fist Minotaur, and Minotaur Sureshot be replaced with . First strike 2 costs that can pump, and grisly gets pumped as well from it???
I also see that you did look over Cut / Ribbons and wonder why you still chose grasp??? as 2 can be difficult whereas is easier while doing the same job, but probably due to the sorcery speed I assume, but the idea is you wanting your minotaurs to attack face as much a possible so wouldn't you grasp pre-combat anyways? Just trying to think of instances when you would have the mana to capitalize on more for it being an instant.
