So it looks like there's no enchantment specific hate for , and not much in the way of just "permanents" either unless you can get them to sacrifice it.

I think your only decent option would be one of the Slaughter Games cards in Standard. Lost Legacy or Pick the Brain. Red seems fairly useless against it.

TMBRLZ true

I'll just switch Chandra with Lost Legacy in the sideboard, I don't have the Chandras yet anyway

Thanks for the help

TMBRLZ beat me to it.

can only remove Artifacts and can only rip Enchantments from hand.

I would go Lost Legacy over Pick the Brain, as it will usually let you grab more stuff.

The other way to go is by throwing in some copies of Lay Bare the Heart.

Yeah I always forget we have decent hand removal now.

Hey there,

I am looking to build Minotaur tribal as well. Just wondering, you said Neheb, the Eternal has been really helping and I was just wondering if you have been finding yourself with extra mana very often?

Im flip flopping on if/how many to include of Cut and/or Torment of Hailfire. I think having at least a couple of either in there would make for a nice finisher. particularly Cut since its an aftermath effect that can be cast after discarding it early.

Im also wondering if Claim//Fame would be a good sideboard option against other decks with heavy removal. It can bring back about half the creatures I plan on running. Bringing back a Neheb, the Worthy can be huge at the right time.

Either way fun build, long live tribal!

LittleBlueHero that's a lot of stuff for me to address. I'll try to hit everything. I will use headings to address each point.

Let me say up front that there is no "right way" to build a Minotaur deck. You have to use cards that suit your play style and work well in your local meta.

  1. Neheb, the Eternal
I only ever use this as a finishing "bomb". I don't have any card which can utilise his mana creating ability. I considered adding Burn from Within, but it was too situational for me.
I mostly use his Afflict 3 to get the last piece of damage through, or I get him to survive a Chandra, Flamecaller board wipe.

  2. Cut / Ribbons and Torment of Hailfire
You'll have to playtest to see which of those cards is better for you.
I initially ran Cut / Ribbons, and it was very useful for finishing games.
Unfortunately my local meta is very competitive, so I needed an Instant removal spell. Grasp of Darkness went in and Cut / Ribbons got taken out.

  3. Claim / Fame
The majority of Minotaurs in this deck are not legal targets for Claim / Fame.
It does NOT bring back Neheb, the Worthy. Read it CAREFULLY. 2CMC OR LESS. The ONLY Creatures it is bringing back is Metallic Mimic and Bloodrage Brawler.
Why anyone would run it instead of Supernatural Stamina is beyond me, when that card saves your Creature from the Graveyard AND gives it an extra +2/0.
If you've got Neheb, the Worthy on the field and you give one of your Minotaurs +2/0 it's very likely that it will kill another Creature with its First Strike.
If you still did want to go with Claim / Fame it might be better NOT to run Neheb, the Eternal, but use another 2CMC Minotaur. If there is one. I haven't checked.

I hope that helps. If you want me to check out your Herd then just let me know.

Now get out to those pastures and make some mooooosic.

Thanks!

Totally misread Claim//Fame as power 2 or less... ooooops. So yeah you are right no real reason to run it.

I haven't actually put a list together yet but I will for sure share it when I do!

LittleBlueHero you're writing Claim / Fame imcorrectly.

Don't put two // in it, or you will link to a deck, not the card.

Been loving the Nehebs ever since the pre-release, and this deck looks like something that I could build IRL.

So when the Ixilan rolls in, and Zendikar and Innistrad roll out, have you thought about replacements? Land wise, do you think that the Amonkhet dual-cycle-lands and Ixilan check-lands are going to be the new non-basic land replacements? And I guess the biggest loss will be Grasp, but hopefully we get something new in Ixilan.

Oh, and now that people have had more time to gain access to HOU cards, how has this deck fared recently?

I need to write a match report for tonight.

This deck came third.

4-3-0

I don't like the Cycle lands. I'm hoping for something faster with the next release.

I might get stuck with having to use them.

Went to the standard showdown today. Nothing but bad luck and disappointment.

Round 1: 1-2 against mono black vehicles (I think)Didn't get enough kill spells one game and not enough creatures another. The game I won was ok though, I got all 4 mimics out at the same time, so that was interesting.

Round 2: 0-2 against Mono red burn. Never saw either of the Nehebs, the mimics and everything I sideboarded in both games

Round 3: Bye (Only points I got all day)

Round 4: 0-2 against BUG (Splash Red)zombies. Opponent had a lot of kill spells and kept using Elder Deep-Fiend to bring Kozilek's Return out of the graveyard and wipe my board. Again, never saw my sideboard or any eternal Nehebs in both games.

I don't think it was the deck, just my really bad luck. Hopefully next week won't be as disappointing for me.

Wow Rhys_Fahey you had some bad luck.

Constant board wipes are not good for this deck, though.

July 22, 2017 7:58 a.m.

Argy says... #14

Rhys_Fahey the game you were playing where you kept getting wiped by Kozilek's Return, was your Opponent exiling that card after playing it from the Graveyard?

July 23, 2017 3:18 a.m.

Rhys_Fahey says... #15

Yes, and the opponent kept getting all 4 in the graveyard. It had a LOT of milling in it, and there was a playset of returns in the deck

July 23, 2017 3:58 a.m.

Argy says... #16

Self-milling?

Rhys_Fahey says... #17

Yep

Things like Crop Sigil and Perpetual Timepiece

Argy says... #18

You need to change your Sideboard against this deck.

I would removed 3x Hour of Glory and 1x Chandra, Flamecaller for 4x Abrade

You might also want to take out 4x Magma Spray for either Lost Legacy or Lay Bare the Heart

July 23, 2017 7:09 a.m. Edited.

Rhys_Fahey says... #19

Well I don't need Hour of Glory I guess.

Grasp deals with Hazoret fine and that's the only God I see at my LGS right now so I'll try that next Saturday at the Showdown.

MiRaGe187 I've removed your Comment as this really isn't the best place for it.

I've been staring at this deck for ages now. I love it. I'm just going to be bummed when the faster lands and Grasp is rotated out. I'm super interested to see more results because my friends just don't think this deck can hold up in competitive play. I've been mulling over instants and sorcery cards like Cut / Ribbons (that Ribbons has proven ridiculously useful for me for end game if I'm not using Fling) or Claim / Fame (which can bring back Bloodrage and Mimic because people sure do love to remove any creature with 2CMC), that have been useful in the small amount of test plays I've had. Still remains a +1 from me, cheers!

Argy says... #23

zapsdiputs the earlier version of this deck had Cut / Ribbons in it, and the card performed well, by my local meta is littered with cards that require an immediate response, like Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet and Heart of Kiran, so I went with Grasp of Darkness for this version.

Every meta, and player, is different, though. You tweak this deck to suit you and it will be moosic to your ears.

Thanks for the +1

Argy says... #24

zapsdiputs you can let your friends know that this deck handily beat the deck that came second at the Hour of Devastation Pro Tour, at Game Day.

Is THAT competitive enough for them?

August 7, 2017 5:40 a.m.

zapsdiputs says... #25

Argy why yes, yes it is. One of their other arguments was that we didn't see this kind of deck in the PT anywhere... "If it would be that good of a deck people would be playing at the PT" kind of stuff. Guess I will be putting this together in the near future and then running it into their faces. Cheers!
