Too cool to Gruul? Well get the heck outta here because this is SMASH CITY baby! And who better to bust it up than the OG (original goblin) party queen Wort, the Raidmother!

This deck started out as a joke to replace another deck of mine that was stolen, but as WOTC continued to print more spicy cardboard, this deck grew some little stumpy legs of its own! Because of the chaotic elements built into this deck, it plays differently every game but the overarching strategy remains pretty simple:

  1. Ramp early and often. Get to Wort asap.
  2. Start conspiring and copying for value. There are no bad targets!
  3. Polymorph your tokens away for more token-makers!
  4. Win the game with any number of wincons!

The polymorph cards we feature here are Transmogrify, Indomitable Creativity, Reality Scramble, Selvala's Stampede, and perhaps the best one at instant speed - Divergent Transformations.

Our wincons are all good on their own, but they are incredible when copied multiple times. Primary copy targets are Price of Progress, Treacherous Terrain, and basically anything in hand with Electrodominance. Since the majority of our lands are beautiful basics, either of these two spells copied even once can win the game for very little mana. Copied 4 times, and those 5 non-basics your opponents control become lethal. The last wincon is an overloaded Mizzix's Mastery, because sometimes you just gotta win the game.

Lastly, it's important to touch on the conspire ability and how this deck utilizes it. Taken from 702.78 of the Comprehensive Rules: 'Conspire is a keyword that represents two abilities. The first is a static ability that functions while the spell with conspire is on the stack. The second is a triggered ability that functions while the spell with conspire is on the stack. “Conspire” means “As an additional cost to cast this spell, you may tap two untapped creatures you control that each share a color with it” and “When you cast this spell, if its conspire cost was paid, copy it. If the spell has any targets, you may choose new targets for the copy.” Paying a spell’s conspire cost follows the rules for paying additional costs in rules 601.2b and 601.2f–h.' The copy you create with conspire is separate from the original spell. If either one of them is countered, the other remains on the stack. This key feature of conspire makes this deck more difficult to interact with on the stack. The worst thing someone can do it hate out Wort and make her cost prohibitive. As a result, when given the choice to conspire either a ramp or draw spell when Wort is out, I typically choose the ramp spell since it will thin the deck and enable casting Wort later a bit easier. On the rare occasion that a spell's triggered conspire ability is Stifled, no copy will be created, but the the original spell will be unaffected.

This deck stars one of my favorite pet cards of all time: Seedtime! It only works in games with opponents playing blue, but it is absolutely hilarious when people see the gruul deck take 4 turns in a row! I've only ever pulled it off one time and hot damn was it worth it!. Other cards that seem like they were made for Wort are Harvest Season since the conspiring it with even just 2 creatures tapped finds 2 lands to the battlefield for 3 mana, and Invoke Calamity because of the three cast triggers it creates - and the additional two it creates when conspired. Just incredible!.

As always, please enjoy and feel free to share any exciting new cards that could benefit from partying with the Auntie Goblin Gang.
