what about adding blue? you could use Trinket Mage to search for the 1 mana artifacts... also Aqueous Form is better (in my opinion) than Gruesome Deformity. maybe Thoughtcast to have some draw and Ensoul Artifact for a 5/5 indestructible creature.

in this case, Ghost Quarter could be very good for mana fixing (if you target the indestructible land, you still get to fetch the basic, even if the land is not destroyed) and land destruction (some sort of)...

Esuriet, you just described my original design for the deck. It is excellent, but to make it work it gets expensive because you need good dual lands. If budget isn't an option, then what you described is way better.

To keep budget in mind Grisly Transformation might help a little more than Gruesome Deformity just because it helps you draw a card.

Not a bad suggestion. Little mana heavy, but it's a solid alternative if you wanted to run it!

was also thinking if somehow they killed a Phylactery Lich + Vampire Nighthawk if you add a Soulflayer and delve those two you would get a flying, deathtouch, liflelink, indestructible. Maybe a backup to Lich.

That would be pretty bonkers. I like it!

i get why youre running relic but why not try welding jar? its a cheap common that adds some value to artifacts you need. not indestructible but useful. or sub it in the side deck at least.

It's actually scary how popular this deck is. It was created five days ago and already hit the 250 mark. THAT'S MORE THAN 50 UPVOTES A DAY SON!!! Damn...

People like cheap I guess. That and the picture of the witch-king is pretty boss.

99neil99 - Welding Jar is superior to Darksteel Relic right up to the point that you swing Worldslayer. Then the lich kills himself unless you use the jar to regenerate a different artifact that happens to be holding his phylactery. At which point, having the relic is better. If someone is wasting artifact removal on the flail or the Skirge, not big deal. And if they pop Worldslayer, the lich can still pick up two Inquisitor's Flails, grow a Gruesome Deformity and swing for 20 unblockable (mostly).

It's a good suggestion as a sideboard option though if you go up against heavy artifact removal. Thanks!

well darksteel citadel is there for a reason. i understood the pro of relic thus why i said i understand why youre running it. trust me i got it. no reason for you to waste your time with an explanaton.

still cant hurt to put welding jar in the side deck. in case you need it for a different matchup once in awhile.

cheers

i love this deck. it needs a sideboard though. I'm tempted to take a crack at it but i honestly don't think i could do it justice.

Sagarys says... #15

I'll put some thought into it and see if I can come up with something. I don't usually sideboard in casual games so I didn't bother building one. But if the people want it, the people will get it!

You should add in Energy Chamber for Brass Squire and Vault Skirge

Priest of Gix feels like it needs a home here. For example it gives you a free body to do the following:

cast lich and still have a chump blocker

equip a Inquisitor's Flail and cast a Gruesome Deformity to itself

cast a Darksteel Axe and equip itself with it

There just seems to be to many utility exploits available

I can totally see him rocking it in this deck. I'd have to mess around with it to see where he'd fit in and what to cut, but that does sound fun.

Not modern legal, so forgive me, but if this is a casual/tabletop deck, why not Vault of Whispers over Darksteel Citadel? They're relatively the same price on Amazon (I have no idea where else to buy singles, as I'm newer to MTG).

May 6, 2015 5:54 p.m.

Indestructible.

Sagarys says... #21

What the Melon said. It's a free indestructible artifact to put the Lich's phylactery on. You don't want it on something that will get destroyed when Worldslayer goes off, or you'll lose the lich.

frogkill45 The pricing is better, but 8/10 times I've seen it be that with shipping included, I can get singles cheaper with amazon prime.

RakdosWins says... #24

perhaps put in some dark rituals just because turn one swamp+darksteel relic+ dark ritual+ lich and by turn two you already have him available.

PlattBonnay says... #25

you should probably let people know that if they decide to add Dark Ritual to the deck that it will not be modern legal.
