I decided to use Whispersilk Cloak instead of Gruesome Deformity, and i am getting a lot more reliable unblockable as well as shroud. I also replaced one Darksteel Relic with one more Brass Squire Not bad! It has won 7 of 10 fairly competitive games! Without using Dark Ritual I might add!

Thank you so much for pointing out this sweet setup Sagarys. My brother in law got into magic recently and has become somewhat of a douche. He and his boys picked up the game and they have a habit of buying prebuilt decks and bragging when they win. I've always played casually with friends and built my own decks. I figure after a few temper tantrums they'll stop playing prebuilt and we can get back to fun, if not I'll keep stomping on them with this sexy setup.

Hey there! Going to check that out. Sounds really fun to play with. My friends will love it, I'm sure.I'll report back once the deck arrives and I got to play a few rounds. Thank you for your effort. :)

Gonna check out your other budget decks, too!

What about soul of new phyrexia? For 5 mana you can protect all your permanents, even if its destroyed.

Has anyone tried running Hot Soup instead of Gruesome Deformity?

Sagarys says... #9

That's kind of hilarious. I never thought to use that, but it has no downside on the Lich lol.

I think, Darksteel Ingot is necessary.

Why do you think it nessecary?

You got this podracer1994. You know the deck as well as I do.

Lol I totally thought I was on a different deck page! I reckon if you need the mana it would be good, but I think it might slow the deck down some. By turn 3 I would rather have a Vampire Nighthawk or Phylactery Lich out and run Darksteel Relic for free. But, truly, it is all about preference and style of play. That's one reason why I enjoy Magic so much.

Which cards would you recommend taking out for the Dark Ritual version of the deck?

May 17, 2015 2:47 p.m.

Sagarys says... #15

Honestly, you're playing casual at that point. I'd just add them in and run 64.

I know it's a weird question and has nothing to do with cards, but I just ordered this deck and the touched by a lich, what sleeves would you put on either of these decks? Lol I'm asking everyone. links to sleeves are a massive help lol. Either awesome art or unmatched protection.

Sagarys says... #17

I wouldn't even know where to begin, man. I just used basic colored sleeves for stuff. There's some cool colored dragon scale ones on Amazon that might work.

So, I did a little playtesting and actually found some success with Liliana's Specter at the 3 drop slot instead of Vampire Nighthawk. Of course the Nighthawk is amazing, and if you love it as much as I do, don't bother swapping it out. But the Specter does provide some extra control over your opponent while you're working toward your board wipe. It isn't as tough and doesn't bring as much combat utility as the Nighthawk either, but it still brings evasion, and works well with equipment. If you have a set, I'd suggest testing it out.

Plus, it makes the deck EVEN CHEAPER!

What do you think of Ogre Marauder in place of Vampire Nighthawk? Would it be worth sideboarding against some decks?

May 19, 2015 8:46 p.m.

Sagarys says... #21

I think it could definitely work. It's not strictly better than the Nighthawk, but it serves the same functions.

What purpose does Vault Skirge Serve?

May 20, 2015 9:48 p.m.

Sagarys says... #23

Provides evasion for Worldslayer and lifelink scales well with equipment. Not bad for a 1 drop.

I really enjoy how the lack of a downside to Inquisitor's Flail in this situation kind of acts as a Lashwrithe but cheaper and potentially more powerful.

Also, with this deck's increasing popularity, might you suggest something to add or substitute to make it a little more competitive? (Assuming we are willing to increase our budget)

May 20, 2015 11:43 p.m.

Sagarys says... #25

If you want to make it more competitive, it needs to be in Dimir or maybe even Esper colors with a really consistent (expensive) Mana base. Aqueous Form would be a must.
