MTGSean, excellent! I encourage people to take my ultra-budget decks and build them into something better. Magic gets pretty stagnant when the same 10 decks appear all over the place. Let me know what you come up with!

Maybe I am missing it but I can't seem to find where Dark Ritual is banned in modern. Maybe it has been unbanned recently?

Huh... that, would be kind of awesome. Is there any place else that the banned list might be stored? Regardless, it does seem odd that Wizards would make that mistake on their own site. Kind of hoping it isn't banned anymore. If it's not, I've got some brewing to do!

I think why it's not on that list is because Dark Ritual has not been reprinted in a modern legal core set or block since the mircadian masques block. Therefore it' s not technically "banned" it's just not from a core set or block of 8th edition or newer. I could be wrong, but that's my take on it. Anyone else care to chime in on this, cuz I too would loves me some darkness!!! :)

Yeah I think you're right because it still doesn't show up for Modern on Gatherer either.

Either way I have a playset of Dark Ritual and it's going in this deck. Just want to mention I run your Golgari Litch King deck as well, love your stuff mate. I started magic this past year and have a hard time getting into modern matches. These two decks changed that.

Awesome, I'm glad you enjoy them! Whenever I play this deck, I always use Dark Ritual because it's always with friends. And the Jarad deck is loads of fun as well. A little slow, but devastating once it gets rolling. Enjoy!

This is the greatest Lich in the history of Liches. Lichs? Lichi? Fuck it, this deck is great.

This deck is fantastic. Just curious have you thought about using Leyline of the Void to help stop graveyard interaction. I figure you probably only need 2 or 3 and it would greatly limit what you opponents can do. Not sure what you would take out but it seems like a good idea to include a couple.

Trepanation Blade would fit this deck perfectly

If you were to make this deck more competitive, what would you change?

Nice deck. I am gonna definitly try this. What do you think to exchange Darksteel Relic with Darksteel Pendant? I think it could work if you don't use Dark Ritual ;)

I ended up swapping out some of the basic swamps for 4x Bojuka Bog and included Tormod's Crypt for some much needed graveyard hate. I also very lightly splashed white by adding Tainted Field so I could use Stoneforge Mystic for a little bit of acceleration

I'm totally going to try that deck. Sounds like it's gonna be awesome in casual 1vs1vs1vs1.

Have you considered Apostle's Blessing for added protection against exile?

I don't understand how Darksteel Relic plays into this deck. If you're using it for counters, why not just use Darksteel Citadel instead? Other than that I don't really see how it could be useful.

Eight Nesscary indestructible free artifacts is better than four

Is there a more competitive version of the deck?

After trying the deck, my buddy suggested Welding Jar to me, and I have to agree, it's way better than Darksteel Relic in almost any situation because it can rescue your imp and your equipments, too.

This is a very funny deck, I play it quite a lot on MTGO now. I mean it's terrible and never actually works, but it sure throws your opponent off. Duress and Doom Blade in the sideboard helped me get a little less than 100% loss rate, but even if it doesn't actually work I still play this surprisingly often just because it's so funny the few times it actually does work.
