W/U Displacer Midrange [4-0 at FNM]

Standard Competitive FNM Midrange Tempo WU (Azorius)

Sideboard

This deck is designed to maximize the utility of Always Watching by controlling combat rather than going wide like Humans normally does.

The deck takes the aggro package available to mono white humans and opts away from Avacyn and Tithes in favor of Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, Eldrazi Displacer, Reflector Mage and Dragonlord Ojutai.

Displacer really finds its home in this build, as there are all sorts of ETB synergies to take advantage of to control combat situations. Below is a list of main & sideboard cards that Displacer can recycle:

  1. Reflector Mage - Main
  2. Thalia's Lieutenant - Main
  3. Knight of the White Orchid - Main
  4. Thraben Inspector - Main
  5. Gideon, Ally of Zendikar - Main (can be exiled while he's a creature, will then return as a planeswalker with 4 counters and you'll be able to use another +/- ability)
  6. Mizzium Meddler - Side

Displacer also achieves combos and/or synergy with the following cards:

  1. Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit - ETBs re-trigger bolster
  2. Thalia's Lieutenant - blinking other humans re-triggers the second ability
  3. Hallowed Moonlight - Blink opponent's creature(s) and then cast, they're gone forever

And lastly, in addition to synergy Displacer is of course very disruptive in combat situations offensively and defensively.

Even though Eldrazi Displacer is always good to see, it's not the only win con. This deck has plenty of hands that play out like a more traditional aggro build where you'll see 2 creatures, always watching and Gideon by turn four, which is really tough to deal with. Displacer really shines as mid/late game option that allows you to keep your board bigger than your opponents and punch through for the value attacks you need.

So far I've run it at 3 FNMs, making slight modifications between each. Went 3-1 at the first two and 4-0 at the last.

Match-ups:

Control is the best match up for this deck, it hasn't lost to Orzhov, Grixis or Izzet goggles once. Board has access to languish evasion, counter-magic and extra Ojutai.

Aggro is a bit tougher for the deck. The deck matches up well against White Weenie & Bant Aggro, but has trouble with G/W tokens and 4color Crytpolith pre-board.

let me know what you think. Still playing it at tournaments every week and doing a lot of testing, but so far the deck is a lot of fun to play!
