I splashed black for Lingering Souls and Increasing Ambition in favor of Midnight Haunting and Forbidden Alchemy. The increased value from the flashback cost of Lingering Souls and guaranteed Chalice of Life ^Flip drop after Increasing Ambition was worth including the dual lands to splash black. I didn't want to risk casting Forbidden Alchemy to look for a Chalice, and end up wasting spells without flashback.

My decision to splash blue was influenced by the all-powerful Ponder, and casting Phyrexian Metamorph without paying life has allowed me to transform Chalice of Life ^Flip much easier. Snapcaster Mage becomes even more versatile in a deck with 18 instants and sorceries, and an additional Whitesun's Passage can be the extra boost you need to get over 30 life.

Finally, I added one Swamp to drop with Solemn Simulacrum, for use with Lingering Souls or Increasing Ambition.
