Xyris - New Wheel, New Deal

Commander / EDH Mill RUG (Temur) Tokens Wheels

Xyris, the Writhing Storm. This commander was advised to me on reddit, after I had explained my dismay at not finding a commander that suits me. I had built many commander decks, picking out those things that I enjoy most and disregarding those that I found myself to dislike.

When Xyris was first suggested, I looked at the CMC and scoffed. In my meta, at my table, that just won't be fast enough. Then I started reading, watching videos on how to build Xyris and curiosity took hold. I went ahead and built him, using the cards I had. When I played, it felt amazing. Wheeling into tokens which then went ahead and bashed my opponents, milling them whenever they draw beyond their first card in a turn, saccing my tokens for mana all while sticking to a simple table rule: no infinite options in your own deck. This suits me just fine, as going infinite, to me, is a bit boring.

This deck is easy, both in understanding the goals as well as piloting. All you need to do is get your hands on wheels, a protection spell or two, grab Xyris and start wheeling. You'll build up your boardstate, soon find your Purphoros or other damage dealer, start pinging the table and efficiently win. It's not without its flaws, obviously, and certainly not a guaranteed win. But damned if you don't have an excellent chance to groupslug the table into submission.

I'm sure the deck can still be improved upon and this deck will probably remain as one of my constants, being improved where it can be, switched where it needs to be, but mostly, kept in a position where I can enjoy playing it. This is paramount and the main goal of this deck.

Enjoy yourself, the win will come.
