Xyris, One Wheely Boi (Semi-Competitive)

Commander / EDH Multiplayer RUG (Temur) Snake Tokens Wheels

Tyblued

Early turns generally involve ramping out with cheap ramp spells like Farseek and Arcane Signet.

Following this, a boardwipe like Chain Reaction or Blasphemous Act can be played to disrupt your opponents' creature-heavy starts, or you can start playing key protection pieces like Kira, Great Glass-Spinner or Steely Resolve. You'll notice there are quite a few protection pieces for Xyris in this deck because he is essential to winning the game, and if your opponents kill him you're pretty much screwed. This deck will not function without Xyris, so protecting him is paramount.

Once Xyris is out, wheel effects like Reforge the Soul and Time Spiral are used to generate a massive boardstate which only gets better the more opponents you have. At this point, you can play out deadly finishers like Beastmaster Ascension or Shared Animosity which will very often kill at least a couple other players. Other options you can take mid to late game involve Phyrexian Altar, in which you sacrifice your snakes for mana to cast more wheels which creates more snakes... etc, etc. Xenagos, the Reveler and Battle Hymn are also great at generating insane amounts of mana. Once you've been able to get a bunch of mana and can continue to wheel, it's very difficult for your opponents to interact.

Overall, Xyris is a very solid wheel commander that I have had a bunch of fun playing. He's great for politics in early game, in which you can let some opponents draw more cards off his attacking ability to gain a favor. I enjoy playing Xyris because he's similar to Nekusar, the Mindrazer, but you've got to jump through a few more hoops to actually win through damage whereas Nekusar has it stapled to himself.

Lastly, I'm not running cards like Hullbreacher or Narset, Parter of Veils because they defeat the purpose of what I'm trying to do overall, which is create the snake tokens for value. I also just feel cards like those aren't very fun in more casual environments, and will often paint a target on your back after a couple games as opposed to sneaking under the radar.

Suggestions are welcome. Thanks for checking out my deck.
