The deck

I wanted to build a deck on a reasonable budget, I’ve brewed a few things recently that have been waaaaaay too pricey for my liking. I wanted to build something I may eventually buy and that I’d be happy to take to my LGS and play with.

I like mono black, always have always will. I knew that I wanted to build an engine that could get out of control. This is the first draft.

The Commander

After having a good look at the commanders I would potentially run, I opted for Yahenni, he’s a sac outlet for free on a stick which is perfect for what we want to do, he also uses +1 counter triggers which is a secondary theme of this deck, he is also a vampire, the third theme of this deck. He will enable us to combo off but he can also punch through for some serious damage.

Ramp

There are 7 sources of ramp in this deck, not including our Altars which will create a large surplus of mana, however as we need creatures to turn these into extra mana I haven’t included them in this section. Some cheap(ish) mana rocks and K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth should be sufficient to help accelerate our board. The real MVP of this section is Pitiless Plunderer followed by Pawn of Ulamog - these two could allow us to combo of infinitely in the late game.

Fodder

In this section we have a bunch of creatures that have a soul purpose of being sacrificed. Some of these creatures can recur themselves to be sacrificed again. Some of these creatures have abilities upon death or when sacrificed.

Sac Outlets

A lot of the sac outlets allow us to sac a creature at instant speed for free to add a +1 counter to that creature. This is very important for the section listed below. We’re also running Phyrexian Altar and Ashnod's Altar to accelerate mana and Altar of Dementia as an alt wincon with infinite sacrificing.

This deck will heavily abuse Animation Module

Example combos

1. Animation Module + Phyrexian Altar + Yahenni, Undying Partisan

Sacrifice a creature to the altar, triggering yahenni and putting a +1/+1 counter on him, animation module will then trigger, we pay the generate by the altar to create a servo token, which is then sacrificed to the altar, which can be looped infinitely.

This combo would also work with:

-Ashnods alter

-Pitiless Plunderer

-Carrion Feeder

-Bloodflow Connoisseur

-Ob Nixilis, Unshackled

-Moriok Rigger

-Mortician Beetle

Using this combo can win us the game with our Blood Artist esk triggers, or wipe the board with Grave Pact triggers, draw the deck with Liliana, Dreadhorde General

Other Winning combos

There are a bunch of other game winning combos in here too.

Blasting Station + Gravecrawler + Pitiless Plunderer will ping everyone to death.

Marionette Master + the Animation Module combo listed above.

Ashnod's Altar + Cathodion + Nim Deathmantle generates infinite mana & death triggers

Cathodion + Nim Deathmantle + Phyrexian Altar generates infinite death triggers.

Cathodion + Nim Deathmantle + Yahenni, Undying Partisan with either∨ both of Pitiless Plunderer / Pawn of Ulamog generates infinite mana & infinite death triggers

Gravecrawler + Phyrexian Altar generates infinite death triggers

Pawn of Ulamog + Pitiless Plunderer + Reassembling Skeleton and any sac outlet will create infinite feather triggers, potentially infinite mana to interact with the animation module combo.

The same is said for

-Bloodsoaked Champion

-Oathsworn Vampire

Nether Traitor can add in extra loops with the mana created by Pitiless Plunderer

Planeswalkers

I’ve included Sorin Markov as a salty player removal (almost) if anyone gets too far ahead tutor him and -3 him to make their life total 10.

Liliana Vess holds up some decent utility options for us.

Liliana, Dreadhorde General will give us a lot of card draw.
