Nic44 I've been contemplating running meteor golem and the more games I play it seems like it would be a good include

Valizh generally I refrain from playing yawgmoth until the turn I'm going to win or at least attempt to win. If people have spot removal its most likely an instant and it would die upon equipping the greaves in response

Spinal_Remains

If you're going that route I would take out ornithopter for Ophiomancer and I would take out imps mischief for Contamination

I just really like this deck! This is probably a wonky suggestion but I am gonna make it nonetheless lol... How about Undying Evil as a pseudo-modal instant to either: 1) make a creature you control gain undying and therefore combo off using the typical undying creature line, or 2) it can be used in a pinch to protect Yawgmoth himself from removal on the combo turn?

Nic44 its ok to give yawgmoth protection, further from that it could also combo with meteor golem like saccing it to yawg and then it comes back. the thing is you cant combo with it because when the creature comes back it doesnt have undying anymore, so its basically good for protection as you said and maybe getting a second ETB trigger from a creature. test it out if you want although I'm doubtful it will make its way into my list as it stands currently.

Saving 9 mana is your way of playing yawg, an undying and another enabler all at once to avoid board wipes correct? Would it be smart to play yawg a couple times earlier to set it up better?

shadowmage says... #7

Rottenplays it really depends on what decks you're playing against and what is going on during the game. Generally I would setup my mana as fast as possible , survey the board for potential threats to remove and make a play when people are either tapped or low on resources. This could mean you have a crazy t2/t3 where you speed out everything and win quickly or it could be a grindier matchup where you bide your time, selectively remove threats and go all in when youre ready. playing yawgmoth early isnt necessarily wrong, as you can get value, shoot mana dorks, etc early game while digging for combo pieces. This is also an accepted line of play, however you must watch out for other fast combo decks and either disrupt them or outrace them

How many tutors is too many totors? I'm currently running Imperial Seal, Grim Tutor, Diabolic Intent, Dark Petition, Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, Beseech the Queen, & Expedition Map. I feel like I am missing one off the top of my head, but yea :)

Skillville there is never too many tutors. Just watch out for cards like aven mindcensor and similar cards that prevent you from tutoring. We can easily shoot them down with yawgmoth. A card like Ashiok, Dream Render could be a greater challenge if you dont have a board position and it will also nuke your graveyard. proceed with caution

I was playing this in Vegas and it's still a little slow Putrid Imp is not needed since you have Yawgmoth it also fails to combo with Necro when everything gets discarded. I noticed that a defence grid might come in handy since usually a single piece of disruption can stop the combo. Bolas's Citadel is to big cmc to play in cedh and a huge target it was a dead card. I am testing Mikaus since you have so much reanimation and a good amount of life loss already. Anything that dies and makes a token that is not human goes infinate with Mikaus.

Ive had mikaeus in the deck before and it was too clunky. Bolas citadel has won me many games, perhaps you did not try and play it in the right setting/time during the game. I usually set it up with the insidious dreams combo after I have some rocks on board or some rituals in hand / gy. I don't like defense grid but if you want to run it try it out. Having a mindset of 'too much mana' for cEDH is really a limiting factor in deck build ; certain expensive cards are played and often cheated in as well. This deck can generate a lot of mana early , quickly and consistently which is why I play that combo. Its an excellent backup combo

So funny how many people have made the same comment about Mike...just read through the comments. I think your reasoning behind taking him out makes complete sense. Love that there's a contingency for graveyard hate. I'd love to read an update on your thoughts behind piloting the deck! Thanks again for the great build.

Thoughts on two of the spoiled cards from throne of eldraine: Ayara, first of locthwain; Syr Konrad, the grim?

Check out my build if you want a tier 1 competitive Yawgmoth deck.

Also the new set will add Ayara, Sound Intrusion and Arcane Signet.

Zeustradamus yawgmoth cannot be a tier one deck ever because its mono black it lacks a lot of power , it cant get rid of stax enchantments for the most part and it cant stop game winning spells like someone playing consultation with lab man or jace out. So no, yawgmoth is not tier 1 material ever unfortunately. Sure its a competitive deck but thats about it.

Mjordan887 I think syr konrad has a home here for sure , ayara doesnt really seem necessary we already have two cards that do the same thing for one mana less each

shadowmage my list has plenty of interaction. Also the number of competitive edh players is so low it’s very rare to run into someone playing a deck above the fringe tier. I live in Washington DC and I really struggle to find a competitive game.

How about Altar of the Brood as an alt win con?

Although suppose you'd have to have the most cards in your deck or some self mill protection

Is Wishclaw Talisman too slow for this deck?

I feel like it would be great for the turn you are ready to go off, but I can see the speed as a downside.

Mjordan887 it’s a pretty versatile card however only seems to be great if they have only one enchantment out - if it could gurantee killing say a Rest In Peace than it would be worthwhile to play however being an unsure thing I don’t think it’s worth playing.

ZetaNN altar of the brood is ok however it doesn’t actually win or kill them. Best case scenario, they have no way to shuffle their graveyard, you mill their whole library and then cast sign in blood, killing them. Worst case scenario they mill an eldrazi and shuffle up thus ruining your chances. It’s not a bad card either per say as an over time effect however I doubt it’s inclusion will help our cause

As far as Ayara it could go in here as another payoff card for sure. I have been thinking about including it for a while now and it may find a home in the next build update
