Yennett Cryptic Sovereign: Scry, Top Deck Matters

Commander / EDH Eldrazi Goodstuff Jank Multiplayer Theme/Gimmick WUB (Esper)

This Yennett deck is essentially a lovechild of all my favorite spells, that 'oddly enough' happen to be odd CMC. I scry, steal, and recur things from my graveyard w/ a decent amount of two card synergies throughout.

The whole goal is to cheat out high CMC cards w/ the commander's attack trigger, perhaps copy said trigger w/ Strionic Resonator , which may seem a bit weak on its own, but did I mention I can see the future? Aminatou, the Fateshifter , Penance or a simple scry Prognostic Sphinx among many other options ensure I am always getting to cast something for free. The biggest issue is to many lands cluttering up the top of my library, Explorer's Scope or if you want Druidic Satchel can handle it or you can nuke the situation with Mana Severance if you so desire, a dangerous but fruitful card. With my current set up, I only miss on yenette's triggers a small amount and those are mostly when I am using Strionic Resonator or Helm of the Host and ripping things off the top of my library farther than I can see the future.

Synergies: gravebetrayal with Sheoldred, Whispering One or any other destroy spell. Go snag a Debtors' Knell and start returning things from anywhere, or reanimate them with Beacon of Unrest . Don't enjoy playing w/ the dead? then just steal some things with cards like Blatant Thievery , Corrupted Conscience , or Mind's Dilation . Set up your combos with Final Parting fetching a debtors' knell + sheoldred, the whispering one, ensuring there is always something to reanimate w/ Debtors' Knell . Want to be really evil? Omen Machine + Void Winnower especially when you have a Future Sight in play. crystall ball + long-term plans means search for something, scry two to bottom, swing w/ yenette and cast what you searched for or slow roll it by not scrying, yenette trigger + draw for turn + another yenette trigger means you will cast it regardless or use any host of awesome scrys, have I mentioned Prognostic Sphinx . Think Tank is a real MVP, it will get land out of my deck and set up Debtors' Knell or Sheoldred, the Whispering One. aminatour, the fateshifter is this deck's subcommander due to setting up my top library, but it works well with blinking a few cards like Eyes Everywhere which will let me steal things and then get my Eyes Everywhere back w/ a blink, talk about blinking: Magister Sphinx doesn't play around. Penance and Psychic Battle is wonderful, I will Penance a high CMC card ontop of my library and not let anybody choose what is being targeted, which is one of my favorite things ever. While its not a combo, Sphinx Ambassador or Lord of the Void or Mind's Dilation or Grave Betrayal or a host of Persuasion type effects all work wonders to populate my field and are truly so much fun to play.

CMC MATTERS: Psychic Battle Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow -soon to come. Baneful Omen Sorin, Grim Nemesis Twilight Prophet

BEST CASE SCENARIO USAGE: Trigger Twilight Prophet during your upkeep, Sorin, Grim Nemesis during mainphase, and Baneful Omen during endstep, subsequently setting up your Twilight Prophet upkeep trigger. Stack these triggers with cards like aminatou, fateshifter, Penance or some simple cantrips like Brainstorm or Dream Cache . Best case possible, emrakuel, the promised end deals 39 damage between upkeep-mainphase-endstep triggers, or more likely, dealing 15 damage to each player with a simple 5 CMC spell.

Doomsday CMC combo: While not perfect, it has finished many a game quickly but yenette should be able to attack or else this will take a lot more mana. You will need one of the following: a Strionic Resonator , a CMC matters card to deal more damage, or a way to draw a single card. If you can do any of these conditions, or a Future Sight + Magus of the Future to cast the things we leave on top. If one of these things exist then go ahead and cast Doomsday . Note: these are just some of the conditions to pull off the doomsday combo, other version are more convoluted and I don't want to type them out.

Doomsday leaving the cards in your library top to bottom: Baneful Omen Emrakul, the Promised End (my highest CMC card) and then literally anything else. If you need to draw a card to make this work then put a Strionic Resonator on top of the library before Baneful Omen and then draw and cast it. Yenette gets her attack trigger casting Baneful Omen , move to end step and use Strionic Resonator on Baneful Omen 's trigger revealing Emrakul, the Promised End and hitting everyone but you for 26 all because of your commander and Doomsday . If you have other CMC matters cards out you can put an 11 CMC card behind emrakul and hit everyone for 24 instead.

The deck is a bit slow to build up, so a nice amount of pillow-fort has been included to buy some time, along w/ just straight up stealing their creatures. In the beginning, it is intended to play two large CMC spells a turn, once w/ yenette, one w/ my own mana. Slowly building this up with Strionic Resonator , Helm of the Host or slowing others down wit my favorite card in this deck: Omen Machine ; I know what exactly what is on top of my library and will scry until I get what I want, can yennett's opponents say the same?

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Artisan of Kozilek - High CMC for my CMC matters theme, big body and annihilator 2 coupled with his ETB trigger I have fallen in love with this card. The few creatures I do have a large threats, thus I really love my graveyard recursion and this fella is firing on all cylinders in this deck. Explorer's Scope oh my goodness, resolve it's trigger prior to yenette to ensure quality top decking for yenette's trigger, low CMC, low equip cost, ramp, and utterly awesome considering that yenette will attack each turn if I can help it. Elbrus, the Binding Blade   frankly it is a wincon in this deck providing high CMC for CMC matters and a super low equip cost. Combine this with yenette's evasion means it will flip and I will start shooting opponent's off. The last honorable mention is Serum Powder this is a dedicated scry deck that boast the ability to see the future, why can't this be true of my pregame actions.. this card is fun, unique, and on theme.

I lied, this card just deserves its own section, again. Psychic Battle is so awesome in a top decking, scryball, CMC matters deck. equipment targets, removal spell targets, auras, are all things that this card can completely disrupt and does so very frequently. Note that my topdeck doesn't change when Psychic Battle 's resolve, allowing me to disrupt everyone until I draw it....then I will put it back on top of my library at my end step to hit everyone with Baneful Omen 's trigger and continue to disrupt them.

CONCERNS: Lack of protection for Yennett, I am likely to add some boots for her. Also some counterspells to avoid the inevitable Cyclonic Rift when an opponent is facing down an army of flyers and eldrazi. Seriously though, I am so tired of lands, so much so that cards like Trench Gorger or Sadistic Sacrament are becoming quite tempting to play come mid to late game targeting myself. On that note, I can't recall the last time I missed a land drop unless I used Mana Severance and even then, I usually have some in hand, to compensate for this I have been slowly removing lands and play testing, 35 seems to be a sweet spot. Another concern is my 3 CMC mana rocks, I am a hardcore 2 CMC mana rock type of person, but if I knew an even cost mana rock was ontop of my library and yennett is out, it is likely I would use resources to put it on the botto, so in the end it appears to save me mana to use the 3 CMC rocks over 2 CMC rocks, more testing may change this outlook.

BUDGET CONSIDERATIONS: Change the mana base, these are just cards that I have gathered over time, though I suggest you opt for the scry lands. A tapped land is better than getting a land on yenette's trigger. ulamog and emrakul are really awesome but not nec. You can save money by choosing other high CMC cards, go nuts and run Draco . Regarding Scroll Rack and sensei's diving top I do highly suggest you just proxy them if you can't afford them as they are integral parts of this top deck matters deck though if you refuse you could run search cards that place cards ontop of the library and achieve similar results.

All in all, this deck is literally just a potlock of my favorite spells that are too high CMC to play in bulk within a normal deck but I have found high levels of success, I hope you too enjoy divining the future. Be warned, you will perhaps feel bad ripping a turn 5 emra-cruel, or masgister sphinx off the top, but you can just feign ignorance of your top deck because there is "noooo way" you would ever know whats on top of your library, even if you put it there yourself.

W/ Mercury in retrograde and the stars aligned just so, your opponent's should expect Eldrazi in their future.

Forever cryptic,

-The Diviner
