Creature (4)

Enchantment (1)

Sorcery (2)

From the ashes of Esper Control (thanks, MaRo, for killing my favorite deck with a terrible core set) comes my attempt to gather up the cards that will still work and combine them with the few good cards from M14. It's not really a control deck anymore; this is more of a midrange beatdown deck.

This deck is basically an old-school aggressive suicide black deck (damage yourself to get a lot of guys out, then beat down before your life total hits 0) with a twist: the addition of ways to gain back life. Blood Scrivener and Dark Prophecy let you rapidly refill your hand at the cost of your life total, letting you drop more and more guys. As your life goes down, you drop Tithe Drinker for short-term gain, then quickly ramp into Blood Baron of Vizkopa and Debt to the Deathless to do massive damage and refill your own total.

I know some people don't think those cards are playable, but I've run Debt to the Deathless to great effect in Standard, and as long as your mana base can handle it, I highly recommend it. It also serves as a finisher if you have enough land.

I took this deck to FNM and it got stomped. It might be good post-rotation, but as it is it just doesn't have the answers to the current meta.
