@MiniDragon: Holy crap!!! How did I forget about Dragonmaster Outcast?!? Thanks for the suggestion. He's definitely going in.

@Ginray72: I think I want to add Ashling the Pilgrim. What do you think I should take out?

Hmm, I'd maybe consider dropping one of you Chandras. I've always felt that planeswalkers are little fragile for EDH, especially when you're forcing everything to swing each turn. Plus, three of the same planeswalker means that drawing a second one is kind of a dead draw if you already have one out.

Have you considered Krenko, Mob Boss? He can provide chump blockers pretty well.

While I see it's value and your artifact sub-theme, I'm not the biggest fan on Darksteel Sentinel for six mana. If you're going to pay that much, why not have some fun with something like Mana-Charged Dragon? And as far as Homura, Human Ascendant goes...I'd just have Captive Flame, save mana and time. Tuktuk the Explorer and Mana Flare don't impress me/help your opponents too (respectively), and I think you can find your slots for Lord of Shatterskull Pass and Kargan Dragonlord right there.

Also, haste is one of the best and defining marks of Red, so don't overlook a good Fervor or In the Web of War, if you can find the space (like maybe that Homura slot)...and I'd maybe try to sneak in a Darksteel Plate for some staying power on a creature you like.

Love the deck! Play tested it 3 times and I'm really really impressed with it over all. Great job! +1

Isn't Gauntlet of Might just strictly better than Gauntlet of Power in mono-red.

but then again it's like 100$

Yeah, I was going to say it was also a little more expensive but you beat me to it. If I can find one, I would like to put it in here but I doubt that I will for a while.

Flowstone Overseer to get rid of those pesky indestructible creatures?

Mono-red, I would always consider ruination/blood moon. It considerably slows down or shuts down other decks as long as you don't play in another mono-color heavy playgroup. But almost every single commander deck I have seen has been at least 2 colors so that usually isn't a problem. Also, in any mono-colored deck, Extraplanar Lens + snow lands so opponents don't benefit from it, although it doesn't save gauntlet of power from helping opponents.

With creatures attacking each turn, AEther Membrane is a great card to have. It messes with people's game plans and the goal is to have other players attack each other (so make yourself a horrible target to attack). Another way to do this is to play Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs .

@Smith_and_Tonic: I'm going to add AEther Membrane as soon as I can get one. Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs already plays an important role in the deck. Thanks for the suggestions.

I missed Kazuul when I was looking. Another good card is Smoke . This essentially keeps your opponents locked down and mitigates the number of creatures that are attacking you each turn.

Fumiko kills her opponents with a sword... How weird is that?

-How Mr. Universe would describe this situation

On a more serious note, I have to agree with some of the other people here. Some of the biggest problems in red are mana ramping and drawing. For ramping I would definitely recommend Snow-Covered Mountain s and Extraplanar Lens , Gilded Lotus , and Armillary Sphere . For drawing I recommend Staff of Nin (also helpful to ping little creatures with tap abilities that refuse to attack), Howling Mine , and Mask of Memory Stranglehold can be helpful at hindering opponents depending on your meta. And Darksteel Plate should also be in here for some protection.

Make sure to watch out for Lightning Reaver s. :)

@an_R_key: I used a few of your suggestions in and it is running better. What do you think?

July 16, 2013 3:14 p.m.

anRkey says... #21

I agree that it is looking better. A good way to let other people help you would be to tell us what you feel the deck is lacking in your experience with it, is it weak to control, is it not ramping enough, is there not enough card draw, etc.

Also, for mono-red, I will always always always suggest Blood Moon . To be honest, that one card would ruin a few decks I've made, especially my Progenitus deck which only has 5 basic lands.

+1 for the name alone...and the deck is good too.

July 22, 2013 12:12 p.m.

an_R_key Some people hate to play against that sort of land hate, since nonbasic lands are rampant in EDH. if this deck is supposed to be competitive then awesome, if not your friends will hate you for playing it.

July 22, 2013 12:44 p.m.

anRkey says... #24

True. It was just a suggestion. My group of friends take pride in having at least one card like that in our decks just to be a jerk and troll the rest until he or she is swiftly taken down by a group of angry people.

Feel free to keep this deck more casual. My friends simply like a play style that leans more towards competitive (without being overly so).

What are some other land hate cards (not including land destruction) that are mono-red that I could include in the deck?
