TheDevicer You're right, gonna cut the dragons for a more bolas-ey theme

TheDevicer I can kinda see Bolas conquering the Dragons and becoming their leader

Clone effects are really good, since they're only ever as good as the creatures on the table. That means if you copy your opponents' stuff, you get cards that are as good as the stuff they play. Besides, cards like Clever Impersonator tend to be really cheap. Just look at Evil Twin. Super flavor for like $0.50. Same can be said about cards like Control Magic. Big things like Grave Titan present you with options to beat face without really breaking the bank. Spruce in draw power, flavorful countermagic like Countersquall, boardwipes like Blasphemous Act, and so on. Maybe add in a few unwitting pawns. Jace Beleren, Liliana Vess, etc. Cards that punish and reward all players are also really fun. Think effects like Seizan, Perverter of Truth. Not op or truly annoying. Just enough to sting people a little bit all the while passing some love around the table. Some single target removal like Terminate also help you kill off high priority targets. Aim to play politics. Death by Dragons would be funny as all hell.

Modfrek sorry, I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean

I feel like Bribery would fit in nicely with the theme of the deck if your going for politics then dictates are always good
November 12, 2015 11:43 a.m.
also to be even more evil you could use the combo of Hellkite Tyrant + Mycosynth Lattice take all their permanents yet still remaining political because of its mana ability

I noticed TheDevicer criticizing your... what? 11 ramp cards? Saying the amount is obscene. I just wanted to chime in and say I disagree. For a general that costs 8 and requires mana to stick around, I'd run no less than 12 myself. That being said, the quality of your ramp could improve dramatically, but one thing at a time. You'd have to have a really slow meta to not run as much ramp as you are.

Somnambulist Not really the best at managing mana base/ rocks myself, any suggestions? (budget of course)

@Somnambulist. The comment was made when the deck had 18.

Ah yes, another of mighty Lord Bolas' underlings. Master Bolas has much to teach those under him, mostly through cruel and deceitful manors, but they are effective. Much love to the mighty Bolas,

@TheDevicer: Fair enough. I had a suspicion that might have been the case.
@Jaxtol: You can pick up Sol Rings pretty cheap these days due to all the reprints. As is Solemn Simulacrum. I like the Signets. They're a cheap and easy way to fix mana. They're better than the cluestones anyway. Thran Dynamo might be a bit more expensive than uber-budget builds, but it's top notch. If it's still too expensive for you, Hedron Archive is a good replacement, but probably your best bet for that slot would be Everflowing Chalice.

I love the deck! But why the Dragonlord Kolaghan? It's last ability is useless in EDH

DARK_VOID fit the theme and although the second ability does nothing the first is pretty beast w/ bolas and the rest of the squad. Any suggestions/ replacements?
November 13, 2015 2:06 a.m. Edited.
Well Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury could replace it. Plus I'm pretty sure his ability will trigger for each dragon attacking. So if you have some dragons out, he's a buff too. Although that may be a problem with just 6 dragons in your deck (excluding Evil Twin). You could also use Icefall Regent if you need some control. Or you can put in some Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius/Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind action. Or a Morning Star/Evening Star/Falling Star. There's just a lot of ways you can go with dragon decks.

I'd suggest Utvara Hellkite instead of Hellkite Tyrant. The tyrant just doesn't seem reliable to me and utvara is much more fun to run, especially if you can successfully protect him. Also, Hellkite Charger + Sword of Feast and Famine can go infinite and the sword is a great addition in most control decks.

Also, none come to mind but your mana base is kinda weak. Try looking up "MTG grizis manabase" online and I'm positive that you'll find a feed that'll give you good ideas for improving your lands

The amount of ramp cards you're running is obscene. Yes, having access to mana accelerants is important, but unless you're running a stax deck, I don't see the reasoning behind the wealth of rocks. It's better to adjust your strategy so you're not forced to constantly draw into rocks. Not to mention that a single artifact wipe could put you incredibly far behind.
My honest recommendation is to edge away from the dragon theme. In all honesty, it doesn't even fit what Bolas would want to do. It's still possible to make a fun and thematic deck centered around bolas. I just don't think this is the best way to go about it.
The way I see it, Bolas would want to use some mind control cards, clones, draw spells, some mass discard, killing things, and burn to achieve his master plan. You could make the deck play heavily into politics. Make it apparent you're there to police those who want to take leading positions. Offer some mild group hug effects while punishing the player who has the best position. Steal or break their things.
Not trying to push you into this strategy, just saying that it would probably lend itself to more interesting games. If you're opposed to the idea, I can help you hone this list.
