I just built a modern deck that uses Laboratory Maniac and Leveler as a win con, if you are interested.

I would say to take out a couple of Swamp and run the playset of Evolving Wilds , but idk. Should probably add some Simic Charm to the sideboard! +1!

This deck looks like loads of fun +1. A combo you could consider for the deck if you haven't already would be Clone + Mirror-Mad Phantasm .

Whoah, that's really clever. how do you make sure you get Laboratory Maniac ? (since you're screwed without him)

How about a Mirror of Fate or Leveler? you could get rid of your entier deck with those.

Since you're trying to draw your entire deck and Lab Maniac only has significant effect at the end, I'd cut a few since you're pretty much guaranteed to draw them anyway.

I also feel like you may want a bit more board control / protection because your win condition is rather slow.

It'd be better if you had stuff to go to your hand first, rather than straight into the graveyard. At least you'll be able to choose what you discard.

I'd get rid of Gloom Surgeon (probably even just the color black in its entirety), Guard Gomazoa, Mirror-Mad Phantasm (too expensive and dangerous), Satyr Wayfinder, Monastery Siege, Howling Mine, Temple Bell. Replace them with Champion of Wits, Jace's Archivist, Taigam's Scheming and such which give you more control over what you discard, and do it quickly.

It could also be interesting to get rid of the Splinterfreight and big graveyard threat, and try to mill yourself or your opponent with Jace's Archivist + Thought Vessel or Reliquary Tower and other no max hand size cards, though you'd need more cards that actually give card advantage rather than cycle through.

Subject134127 how does that look?

More consistent, but could still be improved. Try playing it against some midrange-y decks and see if it holds up.

Since you didn't remove the graveyard theme, I'm not sure why you removed Splinterfreight which becomes a very big threat. Only remove it if you try to go for a big hand and then using jace's archivist's wheel effect rather than the current graveyarding list. (You can also empty your deck for maniac without sending everything directly to the 'yard)

You should try Mana Severance and Undercity Informer if you are willing to go out of modern.
