canterlotguardian I have no idea. Yesterday, I showed the deck to an engineer friend of mine who hasn't played magic since Time Spiral and his first words upon seeing Zada where "Oh! like Large Hadron Collider".
I named the deck about a month ago, FYI.

I've been told I should probably switch Volt Charge for something else. I am leaning towards Geosurge but would like any suggestions.
November 8, 2015 2:05 p.m.
I think ill probably swap Volt Charge for Mizzium Mortars.
November 8, 2015 2:26 p.m.
Bludgeon Brawl out for Sword of the Paruns. It does more for less and combos with Krenko, Mob Boss, Feldon of the Third Path, Splinter Twin, Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, and Goblin Welder.

I really like this! It's another view of Zada, I haven't seen.
Volt Charge + Zada, Hedron Grinder is so cool! It instantly allows you to ultimate any planeswalker. Insta-win from Chance Encounter, recur your graveyard Grimoire of the Dead, turns for days: Magistrate's Scepter, Mindlessly draw your deck with Mindless Automaton, mono-red mill Otherworld Atlas. Remove the board Smokestack. Umezawa's Jitte 'nuff said.
November 11, 2015 5:21 p.m.
Yup, I like the possibilities, but the cards I am currently using do not exactly make as full use of it as I would like. My favorite uses of Volt Charge are with Mark of Mutiny, Astral Cornucopia, and Spawning Pit.
Koth of the Hammer's ultimate is great, but not out of reach in normal play and all his abilities are great, so no need to rush to ult. Other red planewalkers could definitely use it (This means you, Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded), but I think it would really shine in multi-colored decks.
November 11, 2015 6:59 p.m.
Ugin, the Spirit Dragon to exile everything, or spam permanents into play.
November 11, 2015 10:24 p.m.
I already do Ugin, the Spirit Dragon Shenanigans in my Teferi, Walkin' Tall deck. Its kind of hard to top that, even with a radiated Volt Charge.

I mean this constructively. But as your commander, Zada is near useless. There is so little synergy considering that most of your sorceries/instants do not/cannot target Zada and require other cards to work. With 100 cards, its not a practical strategy.
November 14, 2015 7:07 a.m.
Its_Johnny_Bravo Would you like an explanation of how the deck (or any Zada deck) works?
November 14, 2015 7:20 a.m.
Its_Johnny_Bravo says... #12
No explanation needed. Facts are facts, there is such a low probability that you will be able to target Zada that it's almost pointless. The better way to use him is as an overrun commander with cards like Titan's Strength.
November 14, 2015 7:25 a.m.
Ok, so you say 12 cards aren't enough. Advice to add more pump spells noted.
This might not be worth saying, but I typically prefer combo over aggro and built the deck accordingly. Do you have any specific card suggestions in mind?
November 14, 2015 7:51 a.m.

Well you are 100% correct, combo over aggro is preferred. But with Zada you get both, truly an interesting card. Let me do some searching and I'll post them here later on today, I think you've got something here.

i've been considering Descent of the Dragons for a while now. The potential for multiplayer politics seems like it might be useful in quite a few situations.

ok so ive made a small list that you might find interesting. Descent looks pretty awesome. Also, being that Oath of the Gatewatch is going to be designed for two headed giant, it may be very helpful in the future.
Here are my suggestions:
Reckless Charge (play it twice!)
Rush of Blood (Instant speed? Yes)
Assault Strobe (This can be a ton of damage if unblocked)
Temur Battle Rage (potentially game over depending on what you have in play)
Twinflame (unreal card with Zada, play this, then another pump card immediately after)
Arcbond (Game Over)
Spawning Breath (Huge spell to cast? Need lots of creatures?)
Crimson Wisps (Full hand? Sure why not)
If you like these suggestions id be happy to come up with more for you. I tend to think these would really be a nightmare.
November 14, 2015 10:12 a.m.
most of those are in the deck...and like I said earlier, I prefer combo to aggro.
Perhaps I should list a couple cards I think might not keep in the deck (its a small list):
- Radiate: Meant to be used on other peoples spells, and with Mark of Mutiny. I haven't really bothered figuring out how many cards in my meta this can interact with, but surprise plays are surprise plays.
- Seize the Day: Many attack steps would be cool, but its mostly used for the untap (and this deck likes that a lot)
- Dragonmaster Outcast: Good if the game drags out long enough, but its really a placeholder for Dragon Whisperer or if something better is suggested.
- Trading Post: Does a little of everything. Goats and some artifact recursion. Not sure I need it here though.
I do hope Oath has some cool stuff I can work with.
November 14, 2015 10:54 a.m.
The major thing I am looking at for new things to try are cool interactions with cards I am already using to help shore up some of the weaknesses of the deck.
What do you all think of the most recent update (Dragons)?

I love this deck, havery you considered using Zealous Conscripts I have found it to work really well with Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker. Also, I really like the dragon addition however, I think that the Dragonmaster Outcast doesn't fit as well as the rest of them do. But really cool deck +1 for sure!
December 13, 2015 4:29 p.m.
SteelAgitator Thanks.
I am not using Zealous Conscripts mostly because this is a Zada deck, not a Kiki-Jiki deck. I've never really thought the combo was that interesting.
Dragonmaster Outcast was in my deck for a long time, originally intending to swap it out for Dragon Whisperer when I got one. Then after I got Dragon Whisperer I started thinking about the dragon tribal and its one of those Why not? kind of cards.
December 13, 2015 6:04 p.m.
I think I would end up cutting Goblin Assassin before cutting Dragonmaster Outcast. I like Goblin Assassin in the deck, partially because of It That Betrays, but if I swap that out for Utvara Hellkite I might as well cut it as well.
After thinking about what I should swap out for a while, I have decided that Knowledge Pool and Possibility Storm either both stay or both go, and I think that Trading Post is one of those cards I really shouldn't cut. The Pool/Storm interaction is amusing, and chaos in multiplayer is the reason I have them in the deck, but I think that having them interferes with the dragon variant cards. Perhaps it is a good thing that I am developing a sideboard for an EDH deck, because I intend to swap back and forth between these 2 variants (chaos/dragons) at least until I figure out if one is strictly better than the other (or at least strictly more fun).
All my reasons for initially not using Mana Echoes (I only have one, I am planning on using it somewhere else, and I built the deck to work just fine without it) still apply, so I may end up no using it at all. This should me find a way to keep the utility cards like Trading Post and Spawning Pit in the deck.

Have you thought about using Precursor Golem, it looks like it could have some cool interactions with Zada. Also you would be able to switch it in and out with Goblin Welder without losing the tokens, and it would allow for another option for switching, making it more likely for you to get that combo off. Another cool combo I think might be cool would be equipping the Goblin Sharpshooter with something to give him infect, like Grafted Exoskeleton.
I built my own version of this, plus or minus a few cards, to use at my local card shop's commander night. I really enjoyed it! Although I found that It That Betrays tended to hurt me more often than help me, but that might just because I was playing against a particularly annoying graveyard recursion deck, and it got stolen from me.
December 15, 2015 9:22 a.m.
SteelAgitator when I first built the deck I was using Fallen Ferromancer and Volt Charge, so I've had my fun with the idea, but . The way I see it is that if I get sharpshooter going with Splinter Twin I don't need infect.
As for using Precursor Golem, I don't know of any interactions between it and Zada. Something that triggers one can't trigger the other. switching it out with welder doesn't keep it from triggering if another player casts a spell targeting it.
It That Betrays is a bomb, but it can be swapped out if you see something else you like more. I think it is funny that it ended up getting used against you, but I like chaos.
Thanks for testing the deck.
December 15, 2015 5:26 p.m.
I decided to cut Mana Echoes from the deck. While it works very well in the deck, it wasn't very fun to use. I've replaced it with Molten Psyche.

Please tell me why it took this long for someone to make a Large Hadron Collider joke concerning Zada. This prospect scares me.
